You seemed to take acceptional offence to my “issues” comment. Here is the link http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=28511 .
My comment was made in jest, hence the quotation marks, yet you felt compelled to call me a dumbass. Here is your chance to expand on that.
You looked kinda lonely in here. You dumbass.
There just wasn’t enough meat to the flames in the MPSIMS thread to warrant a pit flame war. Too bad, I was hoping to witness a good one.
Better luck next time, ** Adam **
V.
I guess his mommy needed the computer. Oh well, my first attempt at a flame war and I win by default. The two sweetest words in the english language, de fault, de fault, de fault.
No sense in having this waste any space. Please close this thread.
Adam
No, my mommy didn’t need the computer. It’s the Saint-Jean-Baptiste (national holiday) in this Quebec you would willingly give away. It was big party yesterday so I’ve been far away from the computer.
First of all, I admit that the term dumbass was a bit strong. You say your statement has been made in jest, maybe a smilie would have been more appropriate. I perceived your thread in a way more contemptible.
You’re from Alberta, right? I’ve been told by many that the Albertans are the ones who are the most racists towards Quebequers. I know a lot of people who traveled to western Canada and one thing I keep hearing is the way we are perceived by SOME Albertans.
Of course we have “issues”. No one can deny this. We are unique in a way, we have our own language, identity, culture…etc. I’m not gonna elaborate too much on this but let me tell you that those “issues” are inevitable and that sometimes some of them are created by politicians about shit we often don’t give a damn.
I guess it’d be great if the rest of Canada would open up to, say, our culture and then maybe they’d understand us better. I learned english, and a bit of spanish, german and russian. I’m interested in other cultures and I don’t restrict myself to my little world. I like the SDMB because it gives me a chance to improve my english, which is not 100% good yet as you can see.
As for the term dumbass again, I’d like to say that I’m no troll, Adam. I’m just a lurker here and you can tell it by my few short posts. I’t just that it irritates me when someone badmouth my province, you know. I’m proud of my nationality and will stand for it. So, Adam, sorry for the dumbass.
No hard feelings!
-Sebastien
Well damn, that kinda kills any potential for a flame war. I guess that I can clear the air and clarify my position. As a Canadian, I don’t Quebec to leave. However, when things like Meech Lake fail it frustrates me because I see the rest of Canada bending over backwards to keep Quebec happy. Yet nothing seems to be enough. I would love to see everybody get along, but that last referendum was too close. Is there another one planned for the near future?
As far as my “issues” post is concerned, the fact that it was in the MIPSIMS forum indicates it is a lighthearted comment. If I posted that in the Pit, then maybe your anger would be justified. You’ll also notice that I refrained from using word like frog, pepper or pepsi. I didn’t use a smilie because some of the posters here get really pissed off by them. Just try posting a smilie in ChiefScotts presence.
Now, in an effort to keep my Pit license from being revoked, I’ll have to call you a putz. :wally
BTW, your english is better lots of the posters here.
Bonjour Zeenard, j’aimerais la chance de practiquer ma francais.
You kind of have to admit though, between stuff like Meech lake and referendums, anti-english language laws, and the constant threat of seperation, coupled with the Quebecers-as-rude-tourists image, your belle province has become like the grouchy mother in law in the family of provinces…
Nobody wants her to die (seperate), but nobody minds when she gets wasted and passes out early in the evening.
As a resident of the only bilingual province, I also feel like we have a distinct society, but we all have to admit, the most distinct society in the whole of North America has to be Newfoundland!
I hope you dont take offense to my remarks, I have nothing against Quebec. Now those prarie heads from Alberta on the other hand…
Woo Hoo!
Nice to see you again!
Yes?
Tweeeeeet!
Time out, kids.
Did I read zeenard correctly? People who dislike Quebeqers are racist???
WTF is that supposed to mean? Are French-Canadians another race, now?
Or is this another example of gallic ultra-sensitivity?
:d&r:
Of course, techincally it isn’t racism, but it really is equitable. The NHL pissed off a bunch of Francophones when players were suspended for using the “N” word, and nobody has been suspended for using the term “Frog”.
In an effort to turn this into an MPSIMS thread…
While stationed in Hawaii a couple of years ago I had the opportunity to get to know a bunch of people who were participating in an American/Canadian Tiger Team. A couple of the guys spoke no English at all - French only. How does a military unit work cohesively when the same language is not spoken among all? Are orders given twice, once in French and once in English? Do the French guys just memorize a few commands and guess at the rest? Any ex-military (esp Navy) Canadians out there that can fill me in?
About the separatist referendums…
A couple of the guys I spoke with at the aforementioned time said that the previous referendum (I believe the score was something like 49.5% to 5.5%) scared the shit out of the Quebecois (sp) and it wouldn’t happen again.
But since this IS the Pit…
FUCK the goddamn Ontarians and their stupid GODDAMN rules concering fishing around the Northwest Angle…what the fuck do THEY care about how many fish you can/can’t catch before you can scoot back across Lake of the Woods???
Adam, everyone knows about Albertans…
Adam: Ok for being a putz. Since I called you a dumbass I guess we are now even, aren’t we?
kellibelli: I’d love to help you practicing your french.
andros: The way I’ve always pictured it, it is some kind of racism, unless you have a better term for me. Will prejudice, stereotype or whatever else do nicely or will it still be an example of my gallic ultra-sensitivity?
