Oklahoma fires

I know I’m not the only Okie Doper out there. Were any of you near any of the fires? Did you receive any damage?

For those who haven’t heard, Oklahoma was ravaged by many different fires across the state. There were at least 22 grass fires in the Oklahoma City area alone. That doesn’t count the fires in the rest of the state.

Here’s the kicker: (quoting from above article):
"Even as firefighters from 24 departments continued to battle a Logan County wildfire that destroyed at least 18 buildings and injured at least seven people late Tuesday, fire officials confirmed that the blaze was set intentionally. ‘This was in fact arson,’ said Maj. Brian Stanaland, Oklahoma City fire spokesman. ‘The fire was set.’"

Later in the same article, speaking of a fire in a different location:
"In all, about 40 acres were burned in that fire, Stanaland estimated. Fire officials haven’t determined a cause of that blaze, but Stanaland said discarded smoking materials from a motorist on the turnpike may have ignited the fire."

sigh I’m off to the Pit now.

I’m south of OKC & haven’t had any fires close, so far. My brother-in-law lives up near Guthrie, but fortunately on the other side of the interstate.

I think I’ll call the city, though, and bitch. They haven’t brushhogged the field behind my house this year - it’s 3-4 feet tall & so thick you can’t walk through it. If anything gets started in there, this whole neighborhood’s in trouble. EEK!

I hope this isn’t the beginning of an arson campaign. It sure sounds familiar - twenty-odd fires in one day, when there haven’t been any to speak of this summer, despite the seriously fire-prone conditions.

Didja see the radar pix of the smoke that they had on TV last night?
