Olbermann calls for Bush & Cheney to resign

Actually, according to NPR any accounts of torture during Vietnam were vigorously prosecuted. Yeah, no doubt it happened in times past, and certainly you can make an argument that actions done in the past by military officials which were seen as acceptable then, would be considered torture now. The point being that it was made official policy of the Administration in the pursuit of an unjust war. As for them having teams of lawyers going over everything in advance: So what? Lawyers can spin anything to suit their needs, knowing that it doesn’t mean squat until it gets hashed out in court. Good Christ, they went to Ashcroft while he was in the hospital, trying to get him to sign off on the warrantless wiretaps even though he’d temporarily transferred his authority because the acting Attorney General wouldn’t agree to them! They hoped that Ashcroft in his addled state would reverse himself and agree to the shit. He didn’t, and as I understand it, it wasn’t until Alberto “I can’t recall” Gonzales took office they got someone in power to sign off on it.

Horseshit don’t either. The Dems have a miniscule majority in the Senate, and so far, the Republican members of Congress have demonstrated a willingness to go alonq with almost anything this Administration shits out. That is only just now slowly starting to change. Had Clinton pulled this kind of crap while he was in office, you bet the Republicans would have been filing impeachment charges against him (remember the whole Monica Lewinski thing turned on the use of one word), but because Shrub’s a member of their party, they’re not likely to turn against him, unless the American people start holding their feet to the fire and saying, “This asshole needs to go.” Then, and only then, will they stand up and do what they’re supposed to. Sadly, we have a government not of laws, but of men.

I dislike it, too.

Hey, how come the Clinton Whitewater “scandal” wasn’t called Whitewatergate?

Well, the Travel Office foofaraw was called Travelgate.

It probably was, at some point in some paper.

Whassamatter, Inigo, somebody kill your father? Use a word in a way that suggests they’re not aware of the actual definition?

Show you a supernumerary digit?

You didn’t get my joke. Now you’ve hurt my feelings.

Yes, and the Monica scandal was called Monicagate and the FBI files scandal was called Filegate, etc.

:smack: Blame “just-home-from-work” fatigue!

Early onset Budweiser’s.

I recall that it was a few times early on, but a 14-letter word doesn’t make for a zippy headline and just calling it “Whitewater” was sufficient. Natural selection and all. There are lots of quippy names for things that might seem clever but don’t capture the public attention because they’re too cumbersome or dull, with an easier, more memorable label being attached even if it’s incorrect. Nobody calls the hijacker “Dan Cooper”, though that was the (almost certainly false) name he used, but an early suspect named “D.B. Cooper” is now permanently though wrongly linked to the story.

I’m still waiting for a scandal with the current Sec. of Defense to happen.

To all GatesGate mothafucka! To all GatesGate goddamn!

What has this got to do with the competence of Mr. Bush?

Please tell me.

“Look over there!” That’s what it has to do with Bush.

Yeah. Ignore that mugging going on in front of you, there’s a little boy pissing on a tree over there.

That is some of the funniest whiniest punk sore looser stuff that I have ever heard. MSNBC put it on the air no less.

Here is a thought… Take those powers from the president. Don’t allow gerrymandering. Take away all that is sought after for purely political purposes. You know that isn’t going to happen, becuase so far, everyone gets their turn to do it and mine or yours is next.

The BIG difference that I see is the ability to cry cry cry when its the political party of the education, unions and media that has it’s day in the barrel.

For me and the movers and the shakers, I just have to lick those luscious tears of agaony. LOL LOL LOL.

Since this is the current Bush Bashing thread, I thought I’d post this little tidbit in here.

Yes good old Georgie boy is calling congress out for their failures.

Perhaps, they have failed, but since Bush has no successes to his credit, this goes so far beyond pot/kettle that we have moved out of the kitchen and into the garden shed next door.

My favorit tidbit: from Bush "Democrats are failing in their responsibility to make tough decisions and spend the people's money wisely,"

Failing to spend money wisely? Look at the deficit that this idiot and his merry bad of assholes have run up and tell me how he gets to say ANYTHING about anyone not spending money wisely. Hell, there's a begger outside the local K-mart that can manage money better than Gee-Dub.

Did the boy wonder extend any credit to the Democrats for cleaning up the 2007 budget mess left by fleeing Republicans?
You can’t very well start on next years budget, until you finish with this years budget.
For that matter, did Bush give the dems any credit for taking the time to pass an emergency funding measure for a war that should have been rolled into the standard budgetary process years ago?

Of course he didn’t. That’s because he’s an utter wanker who’ll say anything in an attempt to distract voters from his own obvious failings.

Media?!! The Dems are not the party of the media!

Of course. The two pillars of Republican thought are:

  1. We are the real Americans, the populists, the stalwart majority that makes our nation great. Democrats are the fringe, the radicals, the elites.

  2. We are the victims. Everyone is out to get us.

Either one of these is a great way to rally people. Together, they’re brilliant.
