(Old) A Day Off in the MMP

Sis and BIL came over around noon to get my car started. It started up, honked the panic button honk, then died. Even with a 100% charge, it wouldn’t start back up. I’m going to call a mobile mechanic to come diagnose what is likely a loose connection (the headlight that came on that drained the battery is the likely culprit) and see if they can do a repair in the drive. After that, I’ll take in for an oil change and the inspection to get Texas tags. I just hope that it doesn’t cost an arm, leg and Nelson’s kibble budget.

Hi, all. I was just at a conference where I led a writing workshop, facilitated and participated in an authors salon, and sold my books. I’ve never received so many compliments on my teaching, presence, voice, sense of humor, and haircut in my life! It was enjoyable and a little embarrassing. We’re talking people coming up to me the day after my workshop and crying because I helped them break through their resistance and they wrote something they’re pleased with. Next year the conference will be out of the country, so I’ll have to see what the cost of jet fuel does to ticket prices.

I was very happy for my shower last night–the boiler in my building at the conference broke shortly after we arrived, so I hadn’t had hot water for 3 days.

One kitty has roundworm but we don’t know which. Working on that. I’m at the week before surgery and into the baggie of daily meds and supplements that has no blood thinners (garlic, various vitamins).

That’s the scene. Oh–this is what my days off sometimes look like. Sometimes I write, sometimes I pet the kitties.

When we bought this house 22 years ago, among the stuff the previous owners left behind was a pink rotary dial phone that worked!! Well, it would take incoming calls, but you needed tones to make outgoing calls.

Like a dummy, I sold it at a yard sale. I want one to teach the grands about old school phones. I looked on Marketplace - people are waaaaaay too proud of old phones. Dammit. I’d be willing to pay $10 or $15, but they’re all asking $40-50 and up. I don’t want one that badly. Dammit. It doesn’t need to be operational, but the dial does need to work. I’d also like to have an old princess phone, again to show the kids. Why did I sell mine???

My plantings have gotten a good drink - it even spit rain a bit, tho not enough to wet the pavement. FCD is futzing in his shop and I’m doing a jigsaw puzzle on my tablet till it’s time to assemble the salads. May as well relax now since I’ll be painting tomorrow.

My new progressive glasses just arrived. 5 minutes later, and I am quite happy. I can see computer distance, and far, and near. I tried them a couple years ago and hated them. Maybe living with bifocals made it an easier transition. (Ain’t no way I’m getting those stupit light sensitive lenses that don’t work in a car.)

I’m laughing. One of the Republican candidates for country commissioner just knocked on the door, canvassing. I was wearing this shirt:
Imgur

It’s interesting - a Republican is doing door to door canvassing. In Williamson County!

That’s the perfect shirt! Love it.

If you’re just looking for a phone with a dial, would a Fisher Price one work? No dial tone or anything, but a good visual of a dial. They may even have princess phones too. I haven’t had a landline for a couple of decades and probably three or four since I had one with a dial.

They must be running scared. IIRC, even though y’all have a robust Democratic party there for Tennessee, you still elect a lot of Republicans. And I like the shirt.

I napped. I dreamed I was in my Mom’s bar during a hurricane(and Maggie Wonderbeagle was there) and drinking a Manhattan. Which means it was Tuesday. But I’m up, and having an Old Fashioned, since it’s Monday. I’m having cheeseburger and fries and watching hockey.

Yay!
And love the shirt!

I did that yesterday.
But glad S.M. apologized, and clarified things.

Just don’t forget Tuesday.

Like a plant Pet Semetary?

Howdy Y’all! I have a hyuuuge jug with colonoscopy prep stuff in the bottom and a packet of “lemon” flavorin’ taped to it sittin’ on a bachelor’s chest (really an oversized nightstand, but that’s what it’s called), along with a bottle of Miralax to remind me of the horror to come ten days hence. OYKW is sufficiently oogied by the sight, so at least I have that to amuse me. I also possess lemon and lime Walmart-O, chikin and beef broth and lemon/lime popsicles. I now have a menu plan for a week from Wednesday. My life is just a thrill a minute lately.

I have a very similar pile for pre- and post-surgery. Best of luck!

red - I don’t want a toy. I want to show them the phone I used lo these many years ago. The search will continue.

Much chillage this evening. Plus I watched the American take on Doc Martin. It’s pretty good, similar but different. I got a lot of crocheting done, too. And now it’s bed time. Here’s hoping for a good sleep.

Mrs Magill might be encouraging me to transition. I know she loves Maus[1], but what about Mollie? I have absolutely made sure she is on board with every step, but actual transition is scary. I haven’t even pierced my ears until she’s been okay with it.

What if she doesn’t love me anymore?

It’s bloody Gordon’s that I’m getting through this.

I am at my best when I’m with her.

I do not want to be without her.

I do not wish this on my worst enemy.

Ben - you know what you did.

  1. I mean - she put with with my shit for 25+ years ↩︎

The doctor who couldn’t look at blood? I had no idea there was a US version. Where? I loved the original.

I fixed my ping pong ball machine. The kids had broken it in a way that I completely did not anticipate. As we say, that’s why we make prototypes and stick them in front of kids.

I’ve been doing this job for over 20 years, and I still need to look at the letters on the keyboard to get “exhibition” and “prototype” correct. Yet that is what I make.

There. It’s out there. I have a cousin called Ben, who is a good person. I just thought it would be silly to name someone imaginary.

(((mollie)))

Sorry. I’m tired, and will probably regret everything in the morning but persists until something cohesive comes together.

I should probably go to bed, but I would not wish tthis on l my worst enemy.

She is tired, and should have gone to bed a while ago, but she’s still there, making sure her grammar is (mostly) correct..

She is such a grammar nerd.

“She.” I have a lot to talk about tomorrow l.

“Why do we suddenly have a third cat in the house?”

My question to DH when he poked his head into the bathroom while I was enjoying a nice soak with a book, holding a gray tabby cat.

Both our resident cats are orange.

Turned out Gray Tabby had dropped in on our patio, agitating the resident two. DH carted our guest through the apartment to the front door to put them back outside. He reports some degree of friendliness from Gray Tabby, but that our visitor was not overly fond of being brought inside even briefly.

Kasya still seems a bit suspicious about the whole deal, including very warily sniffing Buddy over as if trying to verify that he is in fact her rightful roomie, not some invading impostor.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. it’s 64 degrees Ferret Height(17.778 Centipedes).

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 12c/53f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “If this weather was a fucking soup, it would be Cream of fucking Bellybutton Lint.”

I do that too, I often feel like I’m wasting a day off if I’m using my paid holiday without any specific purpose. Yesterday I knew I wanted to have a quiet day without any particular responsibilities so a kind of rest day and mental health day too.

@Filbert it’s Tuesday!! Don’t forget to do the thing!

That sounds like a perfect balance! I’m so glad to hear that the conference went so well and you received so many compliments. I am sure they were all well-deserved.

She has been with you for a very long time, and she’s already been supporting you with the exploration of your new life. It sounds very much like that isn’t going to change but perhaps you should talk to her (and your therapist) and let her know what worries you, especially if it’s going to be on your mind so much.

Yesterday was a nice quiet day, I got my hair cut and did the grocery shopping, faffed about on the interwebz and did a bit of reading. Exactly the kind of day I wanted after my busy weekend. I also gathered up the recycling and hauled the biiiiig bin out to the kerb for collection.

Back at irk today, not quite sure what the day will bring as I’ve got a lot of little jobs hanging around that I can’t complete yet, plus our office move is looming along with some meetings and training stuff too. I only have two days on campus this week so that’s a bonus.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 85 and sunny. It’s laundry day! I am overcome with joy. Also we will do more work on the cee-mint pond which should get it to the ready for use point. The leftover roast beast shall get made into a sorta version of cheesesteaks for sup. Fries will accompany.

{{{Mollie}}} just continue to know we are here for you.

Lily hope you recover from your upcomin’ surgery soonest. Also, it comes as no great surprise to us that you received many compliments at your conference.

BooFae glad you had a good day off. I vaguely remember doin’ that back in the day. It’s pushin’ ten years since I became a RDOS.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, laundry awaits! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!
