(Old) Ain't gonna move no more in the MMP

Part of the reason I like doing overnight flights when heading to the Eastern time zone. I purposely didn’t nap today so I’d get good and tired enough to go to sleep early. That usually helps me adjust quickly. CBD/Melatonin gummies will help too. Walked over 14,000 steps today as well, between trudgin’ through airports and exploring the ‘hood around here.

Grand Central Station is in the foreground; the Chrysler Building in the background. The building between them is the hotel I’m in.

We moved into this house in 1986. We are happy here. It is less than ten minutes to the hospital, which is a comforting thought for a hear patient. It is in pretty good shape. My wife has spent years on the landscaping and is happy with it. Best of all it is paid for.

Except for a massive lottery win, we are probably here to stay

Welp. Just before 7pm I gathered the gumption to add shoes to the sweats that have been off and on all day as I temperature-cycled and vegged. I could not face another cold-cut or snack-style “dinner”. I want hot no-effort food.

When I went to the elevator there was another person waiting to go down. I told them to go ahead alone as I was ill and didn’t want to breathe on them. But it wasn’t COVID. They thanked me and down they went. While I was waiting for elevator # 2 somebody else walked up. I said “You’re welcome to join me but I’m actively sick with a high fever; you might prefer to wait for the next one. It’s not COVID”. He says do "You have this, that, and this, and that and this other thing going wrong? I said “Yes.” He says “Me too. About 4 days now. It really sucks!” He’s an apparently vigorous ~30yo. So we rode down together. It must be The Crud Going Around Town.

At least now I know I don’t have GoutBeriBeriZikaMeningitisCancer like Google’s AI had suggested when I asked it about my symptoms.

Then I hopped in my car and got some fried chicken to go, staying as far away from everyone as I could. Other than McDs and Starbuck’s, drive-throughs are very rare right around here So I had to pick someplace to walk into. The ordering / paying spot is right next to the front door there, which afforded me the least impactful visit to anyone’s establishment. The place was deserted except for the two cooks who stayed well back on their side to help me avoid sharing The Crud with them.

I ate half the large order in a city park outdoors by the waterway and brought the rest back home for tomorrow. That took a bit over an hour from stand up here to sit down here. Now 15 minutes later I can hardly move or hold my head up.

That little effort flat tore me up.

Have telemed visit w doc tomorrow first thing. Don’t know what she can do that I’m not already doing, but we’ll see. If she can WAG a time course that’d be useful to know.

BB knows I’m falling apart up here. She wants to rush up and care for me for an hour then launch off to work each day. “No dear, I love that you’d want to do that, but no; just no. You need an infection like you need an amputation.”

We’re both sanguine about this weekend probably crashing too. Damn.

What had Shakespeare said about star-cross’d lovers? Somebody somewhere really doesn’t like our couple.

The good news, such as it is is, (See? Always find the pony  ) this upcoming Sunday afternoon will be the funeral for the poor gentleman who wrecked our weekend 8-10 days ago by suddenly dying. So we’ll have no more trouble from his corner. [Brushes hands together with satisfaction]

Bedtme real soon here. Like seconds, not minutes.

Brush teeth, eat Nyquil, unclothe, and crash. Hard.

G’night. Thanks for bein’ out there while I gripe.

First look: WOW!

Second look: so very peopley. I was there once which is enough in my world.

And where would you go if you did suddenly have a whole bunch of money? If you are happy where you are, winning the lottery would probably just allow you to give money to your children to help them start out. Oh and donate to the critter rescue shelter in greater amounts than you have already been doing.

I don’t even play a doctor here, but I am going to diagnosis RSV. There’s a shot for that, but most folks don’t bother. I’ve watched several folks dealing with RSV in the past…through their texts and posts, not f2f and it sounds much like what you are dealing with. Unless it is Whooping Cough. That is having a comeback but there is a shot for that as well.

I’ve spent the last couple of years being a human pin cushion, I’ll take the shots over getting sick every time.

Wrong order. Nyquil before teeth brushing. Sleep well and here’s hoping you will be able to fight the crud off before the weekend.

Up from naptime, cating up on the F1 race, and having a cheeseburger, fries, and an Old Fashioned. Spot is yeeting rubber ducks off of my desk.

Especially since the CEO’s plan for the company is titled “Better, not bigger”

The Good Ice

Functional public transportation and healthcare? I wouldn’t move back either.

Well, the one girl on the 200 Table works in booty shorts and a crop top. I never whine about being asked to work over there.

I read a plague novel where a city went from “Keep Calm, And Carry On” to “BURN IT ALL!” over a lack of ice. Interesting to know that could happen. But feel better over your current plague.

Maybe he thinks the makeup sex is better, so he keeps doing this?

Evening all. Back from the Soccer Board Meeting, the Commissioner had it at a local restaurant and the region picked up the check (we have plenty of cash on-hand), so between that and getting a free sammich from Jersey Mike’s this morning (I had a big bunch of points), today’s eating out cost me exactly bupkis. Probably did end up consuming way too many calories, even with 1.25miles of swimming, but I am not a slave to my diet, if you can’t splurge now and then, what good is living? So will count calories the rest of week, but will go to bed tonight amply stuffed.

Raining outside right now with copious amounts of thunder and lightning, we can use the water and hopefully it’ll cool us down a bit.

Pilot, just crash and sloth as much as you can. Bug will let you be in a bit. And good info on the ice usage.

Shoe, sorry to hear GC might not all that much of a gentleman. Hope things work out for you.

flyboy, hope the fix is in and Wifey, RN is back in business.

JtC, I’m sure this isn’t the last surprise you’ll have as you get things organized. Glad is was easily solvable. And you did a good thing, donating that table to the school project.

Dicey, glad Hubby is happy to stay; presumably you are too? If you have the budget for it, Switzerland sounds like a great place.

Wheelie, so you get to see the sights and get paid for working and getting there and back. Nice deal. And lovely picture.

Now that is a dress code I could live with. I have to make do with viewing time at the gym, where some women wear bottoms so tight you can tell which butt-cheek has a pimple on it…tight, they are…

Swampy, I’ve considered having my entire yard re-sodded; probably won’t as it looks as good (or bad) as all the neighbors yards, but next door neighbor runs a yard service company (for large businesses, not us individual folks), so I may ask him about it’s practicality.

Coppertone, appendages crossed on the job; you deserve a good break.

FCM, glad you feel safe enough to be transporting BIL alone. After your reports about him, I wonder if that is a good idea or not. But getting the car to Daughter is a nice way to keep it in the family.

Legend, best wishes to Mr. L and You and may the odds always be in your favor.

Thunder seems to have pretty much passed on by, so will finish the night’s internetting, read some more of the Sunday NY TImes, and head off to bed. Take care all.

Happy Moonday!

It’s been a bit crazy around here.

My son irked on the AC and got it irking. He cleaned it and I think it had not been cleaned for years. It took three hours, to toothbrushes, and a roll of paper towels.
We can’t get it out of the window because there is no window. I know it has
to come out somehow, but it seems like it’s built in.
He didn’t want to mess with setting up the portable AC that night. He wasn’t too happy when I woke him up and 130 and said hook it up. I was soaked with sweat. I went back to sleep and woke up an hour later freezing. It irks better than I expected.

He also shampooed the dining room rug because somebody had diarrhea. He scrubbed the stairs so much that the part he scrubbed is a different color than the rest of the stairs. We think he took the finish off.

Found out that a cousin, mid-40s, had a heart attack. She is in critical condition. She has six kids, three of them young. Nothing I can do from here as she lives in NC. She is going to have open heart surgery once she is strong enough for it.

Every time in my life that I moved I said it would be the last time. I don’t say that anymore, it’s like jinxing yourself.
I’m pretty happy here, so far. I worry what will happen if the farmer ever decides to sell the farm out back. I might not be so happy if a development moves in.
I’m looking into making some renovations around here. I wanted to add a room on the back, but a friend suggested getting a bump out. Fixing the stairs is going to be part of the renovation.
I’m thinking of adding a bath with a walk-in tub instead of replacing the shower in the hall bath. If the walls have to be torn out to get the tub in, then maybe just add another bath.
I get way too caught up in my thoughts and can’t make a decision. I think I should call a contractor, and hope they call back, and go over options and prices.
The guy to do the patio and awning never called me back. Two people said they could uncover the whirly-gigs for me and both flaked out.

It looks like houses are going to be put up on the lot down the road, although I can’t imagine who would want to live that close to railroad tracks. We can hear the horn from here, I’d hate to hear that several times a day that close to the tracks. It’s right where the train crosses the road, so that horn is going to be blowing.

Since I’ve stopped taking tizanidine and gabapentin, and cut back to one tramadol a day, I am getting energy back and feeling alive. I saw the doctor today and asked her if i would ever be able to get by without the walker. She said yes, but not to give it up yet. I said, don’t worry, I am still too afraid of falling.

I hope you are better soon, Pilot

Good Luck Coppertone

I hope your leg is better soon, Sticky

Well I finally got an appointment with a doc about my bad feet tomorrow. I fear lyme related nerve damage. We shall see.

Hoping for the best outcome.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

< crosses fingers >

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/58f with a predicted high of 20c/69f, and rain showers. Weather app says “It’s wet and fucking slippery. Get you heat of the fucking gutter, pervert!” No idea who that could possibly refer to on here…

Susan I hope you’re feeling better today and the bland diet did the trick.

VanGo Fingers crossed for you, I hope the news is favourable.

Pilot Hope you feel better soon too, sounds like there’s something doing the rounds there.

Sticky Buns Hope you have some better news about your leg too, especially when it’s something that could (and should) have been dealt with before.

Sari Sorry to hear about your cousin, that’s not good news but as you say, there’s nothing you can do to help from such a distance.

shoe GC is apparently not much of a gentleman after all. At least you have got to the point of resignation over the whole thing, dropping him completely won’t be quite so much of a wrench.

flyboy I hope the car gets fixed and Wifey, RN is soon back in her own chariot.

Dicey Much as I might grumble about the state of the nation, I am grateful for decent public transport, close proximity of free health care and our plentiful supply of corner shops. I’d be happy to move to a nicer area but there are certain things that I would not be prepared to give up.

Coppertone Maybe it’s time to consider something other than food service?

All sorts going on in my day today. I’ve got a catch-up meeting with our senior admin team in 6 minutes, then a meeting with my soon-not-to-be minion. He applied for the maternity leave cover role in our team and was successful so he moves into that job next week, and I’ll be getting a new minion. The mobile car mechanic is coming tomorrow and while I would expect him to know his way around my vehicle, I can’t be here so I need to at least show 'im indoors where the bonnet release catch is!

No other plans for today other than dealing with the daily skip fires at work, I have two meetings on Thursday that I need to either move completely or swap to online as I need to work at home so I can slip out to a hospital appointment. Fun times…

Missed my edit window due to the first meeting of the day…it’s recycling collection today so the biiiiiig bin was hauled out last night, and hauled back in again this morning. The dustcart came round just before 7.30am, which on a work from home day is about the time I’m getting up. Thus I was not in time to see what treasures they might have removed from the idiot neighbour’s bin.

They have abandoned the orange ticket idea if there’s stuff in that’s not recyclable, apparently people didn’t like it being quite so obvious that they’re total spanners. I had a quick look at next door’s path but the only thing there was an empty Tyskie lager can, which of course belonged in the recycling!

Yays, boos, and hugs as needed to the 1,000,000 posts since I checked in yesterday!

I heard back from the doctor and he said that I could proceed with the current treatment plan given the finding of the cyst in the ultrasound. This morning I start physical therapy and I’m actually looking forward to it because I was able to request the same person that I had last time I was there.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 76 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 92 and mostly cloudy for the day with a chance of rain this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. The big item on the agenda is laundry. I am overjoyed. No need or desire to go anywhere today, so sloth, nappage, day drinkin’ and other RDOS things shall fill the rest of the day. Sup shall be tacos 'n fixin’s, and refried beans. Fartfest to follow.

Pilot hope the teledoc can help you figure out what it is and what to do to get over it.

VanGo hope the doc can figure out what’s goin’ on with your feets.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

FCD talks about stuff like this, but the way I see it, if it’s green and I can mow it, that’s a lawn.

BIL has only had it for less than 2 years and FIL was meticulous about maintaining it, so here’s hoping no damage has been done recently. It’s a 2016 - 5 years newer than her Rogue. We’ll see what Paul has to say about it when it’s inspected. So glad we have a mechanic we can trust.

What kind is it? We promised to put a/c in Daughter’s outbuilding as a Christmas gift and a portable would be lots easier than cutting a hole in the wall. They want the building to be a playroom for the kids.

When the inlaws built their last house in Ocala, the view out their back window was a field full of cows. When they moved 23 years later, the view was a 6’ fence around a neighborhood full of McMansions (or maybe just big houses.) I truly hope that doesn’t happen to you.

For some reason, I could not fall asleep last night - I was awake past 1 but pretty sure I was out before 2, and I woke around 6. I foresee a long day.

I pick up BIL at 1 for his 1:30 appointment at motor vehicles to swap his license for an ID card. I’m hopng to get the key and all the documents for the car from him today, including a signed title, and we can pick it up and get it to Paul for inspection, etc.

Heat advisories continue thru tomorrow, with rain forecast to move in some time on Thurs and all day Firday (fingers crossed.) I hate to think what the electric bill for the shop will be as FCD has been running the a/c out there. But it’s a big metal building - I can’t imagine what kind of oven it would be if not cooled down.

We’re on the budget plan with our electric company. They evaluate your usage every 6 months and adjust your bill accordingly. At one point, we’d accumulated a huge credit and our payment dropped. It took over a year to use it up, then the bill went up again. Still better than humongous summer bills hitting out of nowhere.

Apart from taking BIL, not sure what else the day holds. The fridge is getting overloaded with plastic containers which suggests a buffet of sorts for supper. I’ve been surprised how easy it’s been going from my out of control snacking to eating right again. I’ve dropped about 7 of the junk food pounds that piled up and I can walk past the cookies without grabbing one. I almost grabbed an ice cream bar yesterday, till I saw how many calories it was and noped to the pantry for a pretzel rod. I’m such a disciplined creature.

I need to contact both credit unions - one about setting up the on-line access for MIL’s credit card and one for the VISA monitoring on our card. The third-party is being replaced by and in-house service, or so they say. I don’t care who does it, I just like knowing when and how much is charged to our card.

And so it begins. Happy Tuesday!!

We got a happier surprise today. We are both over 65 so can file to be exempted from property taxes. We will be taxed on our Social Security income, but we are old enough to file for an exemption for that as well.

I learned that because I got a notification that the USPS had told the AZ Elections dept that we didn’t live in AZ anymore so we figured I should probably let the state retirement system know where I live now. I’ll still be taxed on that income as well, but it looks like it is low enough that no money will change hands.

Here’s hoping you are wrong and that it is just a pinched nerve which will resolve after a long hot bath. Good luck!

Nooooo!!! Don’t they know that people all round the world breathlessly await the bin reports. And how boring for you, local gossip shouldn’t take that much work.

I really do hope this helps and that you are able to painlessly walk up and down the stairs soon.

I’ve already hit a roadblock today. I need to actually talk to a person in AZ and nobody is awake yet. Maybe I’ll go look for my plates again.

Morning all. Bladder woke up about 5am but managed to get a couple hours more sleepage in so should have a full day’s ration. Nothing much on the schedule, may try to time my gym trip with the Euro 2024 game and do double duty, but nothing sure right now. 79F heading to 93 and a 50/50 chance of rain.

You do that, remember last week I predicted you would find them on Tuesday… And nice news on the taxes, I don’t think Ali-bama lets me get away with not paying property tax, but might inquire.

Sari, better frozen that sweaty (I can say that now, come January I suspect I will be singing a different tune…). Sounds like Sah-son is pretty handy with the housework, might want to borrow him someday…  I live at the end of a cul-de-sac and have worried for the last 20+ years that they would tear out the woods and start building houses or apartments there. So far nothing but some heavy equipment last month took out a bunch of trees, so I don’t know… And while I like trains, I agree that living right next to them isn’t the best idea.

VanGo, best wishes on the doc visit.

boo fae, hope the new minion works out. And do hope the stories of the neighbor’s bin can continue.

Sticky Buns, hope the PT goes well.

Definitely a keeper. If I could find a HVAC company I had that much faith in…

And it’s been 45 minutes since I took the pill that is supposed to be taken on a empty stomach, so time to break fast and start the day. Take care all.

While I was not sleeping last night, I got to thinking about our current situation. Early on in our marriage, I figured we’d be responsible for FCD’s parents and possibly his youngest brother, because middle bro (now deceased) was pretty much a flake. BUT I think we both assumed that his parents would gradually get older and frailer before ultimately fading away, kinda like FIL’s mother did at 97. We didn’t anticipate the dementia, the blindness, the heart issues, BIL’s seizures, MIL’s stubbornness and all the other stuff we’re dealing with. I’m guessing that’s a lot of what’s wearing us down.

Or not. What do I know. I was exhausted and not sleeping so my brain went strange places. But I think there’s some validity in there.

OK, MIL just got up - time to drug her and feed her.

thank you for the article. very interesting. we have the nugget/pellet table top ice maker at the office.

my idea of good ice is the crystal flute sounding ice from japan. there was an ice maker that would make ice and sell it in kyoto. it would be in long rectangles and he would slice it with a very fine wire thing. it would make a sound you get from a glass harmonica. just amazing. when it was put in a glass and a beverage poured on it it was a concert. as the ice cracked different flutish notes would sound.

i saw this as a little cultural report on a news show many years ago. i have tried with no avail to find the segment. it was amazing ice. so clear you could see through it, no air bubbles, and it made wonderful music as you enjoyed your beverage.

Wait, what? Is this unique to your state/county?
