(Old) Ain't gonna move no more in the MMP

That’s is interesting, I know Michigan may offer some tax relief but it depends on age and poverty level iirc. Perhaps veterans status too.

Here’s a ranking of states according to their populations of old people. WV is third after Maine and Florida.

State. Arizona allowed us to freeze our taxes at the same rate they were when we turned 65 but we were warned that if our property assessment went down and the taxes should drop…they wouldn’t for us due to the freeze. We choose to take that risk.

Starting to heat up here in the Twin Cities. We’ll top 90 this weekend. We’re still waiting for the blinds guy to come and measure the windows. I want them to put in cellular blinds to mitigate the solar heat gain/AC loss on our eastern-facing windows. The AC, which is dicey in the best of conditions, is overwhelmed when temps exceed 80. The vents in the LR are right over the windows, so the cool air never gets more than a short distance away from them.

Last night we went to hear Benny Green (jazz pianist) play at the local jazz club. He’s played with a lot of the greats in his career. I prefer jazz ensembles rather than solo performances, but he is truly a master of the instrument.

Reminds me of the joke, " blind guy!"

I looked up Maryland’s property tax rules - we exceed the maximum income limit, so we can’t claim it. Dammit - I got all excited for a minute there. But with 2 social security payments, my pension, and my annuity, we’re over the limit. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Dammit.

BIL just called in a bit of a panic - someone told him when he turns in his license, the state will cancel his auto insurance and fine him $2500. But I managed to talk him down, plus I told him what documents and such that I’ll need to do the transfer to Daughter. It should all be done by her RDO next week and that will be that.

Closing in on my lunch time - the curse of having breakfast around 6:30 - I’m starving by 11. Off to forage.

i believe you are having elevenses, lunch is when you get peckish at 1pm.

Elevenses - Wikipedia

In all my working years, I always took my lunch break at 11. You can call it whatever you want but I call it lunch! So there!

So after the last few days of debacles, Corporate showed up for a visit. Because after they laid off a bunch of competent people and replaced the bad SSLAWS with the worst ones in the company inventory, it must be our center’s fault things went to hell on a holiday week. We’ll se how far down the hill the excrement rolls. But I did my Aldi run after work, and bought a buttload of meat, and a bag of trail mix from the Aisle Of shame. Spot is currently fascinated by something on the porch.

I’m sure boofae can get you a bunch of sods.

Good luck on the PT, Sticky!

Spot is a big fan of it.

And he used silver colored mounting screws for the pan rack, instead of the black ones that came with it.

Oh well. This won’t be the first time I’ve painted screws and probably won’t be the last.

Good idea. However, I absolutely forgot my other plan.

Some weeks ago I had bubbly wine (prosecco) which was served with sprigs of rosemary and ice cubes. The ice cubes had pommegranate seeds in them. So yum! Need to buy pommegranate seeds (not the fruit - no patience with that). No need to buy rosemary - got a huge plant.

Hope the sickees get satisfactory treatment from the various healthcare professionals. Need to go do my own exercises to try to counterract the sitting on my butt all day.

1:30pm as I start driveling for the first time today. It’s been a warm gray day since sunrise when I awoke that’s gradually turning into a warm hazy blue-gray day. Warm as in 89/32. Perfect in so many ways.

I am much recovered from yesterday. Far from right, but much less wrong. Peak Sick was probably 8-9pm last night. Doc says viral sinusitis plus the Crud Going Around which is also viral.

For which the best resolution is aggressive irrigation and hydration. And working diligently at holding down your chair. I’m good at that. But I was fully able to shower, shave for the first time in 4 days, made my usual breakfast, etc., without that Herculean effort overwhelming me as it would have yesterday.

After I’m done w this post I’m off to the pharmacy & groc store, each just one whole block from here; we’ll see if there’s any energy left after that major ordeal.

As to y’all …

JTC: Funny, when I looked at @Wheelz’ pic of Grand Central in NYC on a sunny summer early afternoon I thought “Wow, that’s pretty short on people for a nice day there right by the train station.”

I’m fully vaxxed for RSV. And everything else known to man. You and I think alike on these matters. Although that doesn’t prove I’m not infected with RSV right now. RSV or no, the course of treatment is the same until/unless it turns into a pneumonia. “So watch out for that” were her parting words of wisdom.

Hooray for no taxes. Fogies Rule! OTOH, yet another way the Boomers are helping themselves to all the money, leaving nothing for the grandkids. Yes, I’m kidding. Congrats on skipping on property taxes and state income taxes

Dere’s sumptin’ not right 'bout dat boy.

Seriously, I bet he thought the included black screws would be too small & wimpy. Anything worth hanging up is worth hanging up using hardware that will support a car, not a mere frying pan.

Now that is some world-class pony-finding there doggio! I am in awe.

I’ve been meaning to ask: is the Aisle of Shame the frivolous snack and yummy chocolate aisle? Seems very Aldi has one of those.

Sari: Hugs for your poor cousin. That’s horrifying news.

Good to hear your doc is optimistic your walking can keep improving. And yeah, too much of the meds can mimic a whole host of debilitations. Congrats on getting meds readjusted to a more successful level all around.

VanGo Good luck w that doctorin’ stuff. Wish I had a more useful response.

StickyBuns great news about clearance to treat and even better to start this very day!

Swampy: sounds like yet again, you win the contest for best plans for the day. You usually carry them out too. There’s a lot to be said for a man of his word.

Views never get better over time. Farm → 'burb is a one-way process. As is forest → 'burb.

I wonder if the McMansions smelled better than the cows?

Best of luck with the BILmobile.

Welp, I caught up to the bottom and didn’t lull myself into a nap. So off for errands and back home. Then nap.

Cheers!

Back from taking BIL. He got a temp ID - the real one will come in the mail next week. I got the title and keys - we’ll fetch it tomorrow and take it in for inspection/service. Here’s hoping it won’t require a lot of work.

MIL has been driving me bat-crap crazy about this whole business. She keeps telling BIL stuff that may have been true in FL but isn’t that way here. She had him thinking he needed to turn in the car’s tags with his license, and she was asking if he had a passport. WT-everlovin-F??

I’m thinking she sits here dreaming up things to fret over. Like this morning, she wanted to see his rent receipt to see if it showed his electric bill. Except electric is included in the rent - there is no separate accounting in subsidized units. But she still feels like she needs to see it. “I’ve always done that!” Yeah, well, it’s his apartment and not your business.

Sorry. I wasn’t going to rant about her any more. Dammit.

Still stoopit hot out there. Supper will be foraging for whatever. So there’s that to look forward to.

Back from the doc. Confirmed what I feared. So I’m back on antibiotics for another 2 weeks. Hope it works.

One of the current flails is the ever-delayed process of getting everyone in the USA to have a RealID-compatible license/ID card. There are many documents a person might bring to the state motor vehicle agency to prove identity well enough to upgrade their current non-RealID drivers license or non-driver’s ID card to the RealID version.

Passports are one of several different documents a person might bring in. So although a passport isn’t necessary, for a typical ordinary person who already has a passport, it’s probably the single most convenient easy-to-find document they have to show.

I bet MIL’s few remaining synapses are dredging up something about that.

Rant forth; sometimes it’s all that keeps her scrawny neck unwrung. For now.

I survived my errands. The sound of thunder approacheth, but I’m in for the evening, so not my problem.

Now happily, but not exhaustedly, back in my chair. And of course the pharmacist screwed up selling me the stuff that’s OTC but kept behind the counter because ZOMG DRUGS!!!1!!!. Which in my depleted condition I didn’t notice until I got home. Welp, there’s always tomorrow.

I’m starting to prep to cook a steak, a microwaved baked pot, and some frozen veg. Evidently not too disabled by the Dread Crud. But happy to be back in my chair while stuff defrosts.

I don’t know if this counts, but I found FOUR of my missing SIX plates. I’m starting to suspect that they finished off the contents of our liquor cabinet while packing instead of packing the bottles up and putting them in TC friend’s car.

I seem to remember that you get your jabs on a regular basis, but RSV is an ick that seems to slip people’s minds. I’m glad you are feeling better. Your good hydration habits probably help a lot.

I see you’ve met my husband. Ain’t nothing gonna fall off our walls, he hangs prints with lag bolts, hence me learning that I could paint screw heads.

He put my rolling kitchen island together today and I’m really happy with it. It’s not as big as our old one, but I can push this one out of the way when needed.

The sellers left a small safe but didn’t leave the key or combination. As we don’t have any need for it, we took it out of that closet and put it next to the almost brand new trailer he bought last month.

They also left some bar stools that went out as well. When the big wood display case went out, he took pics of everything and posted the pics with descriptions i.e. “Two foot tall safe, no combination or key.”

The first response to the listing was someone who wanted the trailer. That was in the background and not mentioned at all. The next few responses asked about the key or combination for the safe.

Someone finally said they would be here in half an hour for everything, here’s hoping they actually show up. And that they bring help because we are not going to help loading that safe into a lifted pick-up.

MANY BAD WORDS!!! I also hope that the antibiotics help, numb feet are a serious problem. Please don’t fall down your stairs.

I am rather urinated right now. I spent all morning fiddling with a couple of nasty a/r files and associated programs. Finally, I’m ready to upload them. Guess what? Big Multinational Credit Reporting Agency’s file transfer site isn’t working. So I tried to call Technical Support. The 'bot wanted my Social Security Number. Um… No. We’re not in your system under my personal SSN. Without identifying myself as a Consumer (as opposed to a Commercial Credit reporter), there was no way to proceed. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Anyway, we had a catered lunch today to meet the new boss. Mexican food. There was literally nothing I could eat, as every single thing was a carbohydrate bomb. I expected that though, so I’d already gone to fetch a Cobb salad from Trader Joe’s.

Second bed is gone. Yay! I helped the guy load it and watched him strap the crap out of it! That sucker ain’t gonna come loose…

This evening we’re going to Daughter’s house - her dryer won’t tumble. Maybe an easy fix, maybe a dead dryer. Fun! On the way back, we’ll get the car.

Envy my excitement!

Our stuff is gone too. Not only did he load everything himself, he also carried some heavy boxes (our pantry cabinets) inside for us.

It always embarrasses Hubs when I ask for help with heavy stuff, but I figure that we carried heavy stuff for elderly strangers in the past, it’s OK to ask for help now.

PS Lowe’s gives a vets discount on appliances (as well as everything else).

Hooray for Stuff Dispersed!

There was a reason I knew how to diagnose that issue so easily. I’ve hung stuff on the wall that will still be firmly attached when that slab of drywall is 50 feet down in some trash mound 100 years from now. After having been repeatedly abused by a frustrated guy driving a Cat D-7.

I bet 10,000 quatloos the person will show up intending to put all the other items into the new trailer he’s getting from you too. :man_facepalming:

It’s amazing how short the Commercial Credit Reporter tech support division can keep their ticket backlog when nobody can reach them. Their PHB thinks they’re the best IT workers on Earth.

Bastards.

Of course it’s Mexican food. Bane of my existence at parties too. Bastards. Maybe time for you to befriend whichever admin assistant is routinely tasked to make catering arrangements and keeps choosing the same place and same menu.

FCM Yaay for absent beds!! Of course no day can be bad-news-free. Bastards at the Committee make sure of that.

Welp, I managed to cook that 3-part dinner so it came together pretty much all at once as I prefer, it’s hot-plated and resting now, and I only have slight burns on two fingertips. I’d rate that a B-. But I bet it’ll taste good.

Chow time here!
