This is driving me crazy. And yes me and everyone I have asked has googled so . . .
I ride my bike along a river near the ocean where I see lots of egrets (water birds). This has reminded me of an old cartoon that has an egret (it could be a white heron, it has been a long time since I saw this cartoon). He walks to a podium, taps a few times then conducts the orchestra.
The real egrets I see all act and move as I remember in this cartoon. I do not know the name of cartoon or studio who did it.
So I come to the millions and their steller information to help me on this bit of trivia
Could the bird have been a stork or a pelican? I vaguely remember one of those doing the tap-tap on the music stand and leading a musical group of some sort.
I would guess it was an old Merry Melodies or Silly Symphonies cartoon. IIRC, the former was by Warner Bros. and the latter by Disney Studios. Very typical 1930s stuff.
Darn, beat me to it. There’s a guidebook called Wild New York, about animals you can spot within New York City’s five boroughs. The chapter on shorebirds around Jamaica Bay is entitled… Egrets, We Have a Few
try Leigh Rubin the creator of Rubes. I have seen his cartoon of Egret’s I’ve had a few.An alligator wearing a fedora and a cigarette in his claw, paw.
. . . but, I created a cartoon egret! Me, bienville! Your good friend from the SDMB!!!
It was the summer of the BP oil spill in the Gulf. I drew a ten episode webcomic and put it on Facebook- I never did anything with it beyond Facebook.
