I’ve been playing the original Oregon Trail a bit lately, and it’s made me nostalgic for another computer game I remember playing. The jist of the game is that you are a trucker and have to make deliveries. I don’t remember the exact mechanics of how you get jobs, but I remember it being a nationwide thing. You have to choose your routs, speeds, and you can even choose mundane stuff like where you sleep or if you wear a seat belt.
What I remember most about the game is that I, like any kid, sped like hell, didn’t wear my seatbelt, and stayed up for a good 30 hours. I don’t remember whether I got pulled over, or if I crashed, but something bad happened. The only other specific I can remember is that if you slept in your truck on the side of the road you were liable to get a ticket. Now, the latest I could have played this game was 5th grade in 1995. Realistically it was probably a year or two before that, so we are talking about at least a pre-1993 game, probably more like pre-1991.
The Dope is the only place I know that will remember this. Don’t let me down Dopers!
