Oh gosh, I adore you! Thank you SO much! I love baskets almost as much as I love small bowls and was very not happy when hubs gave all of my old ones away during the move.
Short up and down nap. Had a Sazarac and Asian BBQ Stirfry. Watching F1 stuff.
Was it good beer, or Carlsberg/Busch Light/Heineken level swill?

I do it periodically(It’s the Franciscan monk in me). I don’t do the Marie Kondo thing, because if I just kept the things that sparked joy, I’d end up on the street corner holding Spot, the coffee maker, and a fifth of gin.
Did you find a recipe? Or was TLAR good enough?
And us, right? You’d keep us. So four things.
I got the storage unit moved. $525. I still need to cancel the old storage unit. Anyway, I should meet equilibrium of five or six months Lots of stuff I need to put on eBay.
Mrs. L. A. ordered a Domino’s thin-crust (in deference to my low-carb diet) spinach and feta pizza for dinner. She got me a chicken Caesar salad for the same. Quite nice, and I appreciate her thoughtfulness.I had four or five squares of pizza, and The Spousal Unit ate the rest.
Morning here. I’ll head out to the railway station shortly and pick up a bite to eat on the way. Heading to Portsmouth to see HMS Victory and some other ships and maybe a few other things. Due to be hot again 24C/77F here in Southern England but cloudy right now so debating on taking a jacket or not. Hope FCM trip continues to go well. And best be off, it’s a 25 minute walk to the station and I don’t want to be late.
My whole post was here and then gone!
TLDR
Went on part of our scavenger hunt. Went to Red Robin for a lunch that did not agree with me. Went to Crumbl Cookies for my real lunch. Went to Costco and got my hearing aids.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and pretty much cloudy though the sun may peek out off and on. It could also rain. Or not. TWPTB are willy-nilly today. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I get to plop down in a pew. I may be doin’ this solo. It’s a fifth Sunday and on fifth Sundays we have a Rite I service which OYKW is not real thrilled about. I grew up with Rite I, so it’s a trip down memory lane for me. I turnt OYKW into a Whiskypalian after we met so RI is just weird to him. Anywho, after that stoner food will be procured ane et up in da cave. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall do the morning cleaning, then Spot and I shall sloth extra hard in the afternoon. Spot is currently watching As The Squirrel Turns. I’m gonna need a better post for the feeder, because Edgar the Overly Aggressive Squirrel has torn the feeder off the hanging pole.
TSRA
Yay!
Boo.
Yay!
Yay!
So he thinks Rite is wrong?
Good news, I don’t have to find a new hair salon!
The place I go to is owned by a married pair who went to the U.S. for vacation. They found the immigration a bit more onerous than last time, but only spent 1.5 hours in line. For their previous visit they were able to use the face identification system and didn’t have much contact with people at immigration.
Today is day 1 of a 4 day heat wave. Not looking forward to the rest of the week.
Greetings from Rotterdam! When I awoke, we were already tied at the dock and debarking passengers were debarking. We got up and did the morning routine stuff before heading to breakfast.
Our excursion today was a Rotterdam city tour. Unfortunately (for me, anyway) our guide was big into architecture, so she talked about that more than anything. And she had a tendency to point out things as we were passing so by the time we’d turn to look, it was gone. But I did learn a few things and I wish we had a bit more time.
When we got back to the ship, there were a gazillion embarking passengers, so much jostling as we reboarded. But we got a light lunch. FCD is napping and I nabbed a comfy chair in the Crow’s Nest, with a panoramic view forward. I’ll post a Pic on FB.
Tonight is steak night in the buffet and haddock night in the dining room. Not sure where we’ll dine. No other plans. The ship will leave around 4, bound for Norway. Tomorrow is a sea day - we shall see if anything post-worthy happens. Till then:
doggio - since I don’t drink the stuff, I didn’t bother reading about the offerings. Tho on one menu, I did notice Bud Lite on the list and I knew to scoff.
Yay for baskets! I have several utilitarian ones that are also just cool looking.
Yay for hearing aids!
Yay for Portsmouth!
Yay just for the heck of it!
Happy Sunday!
Good morning.
It’s 54°F and clear outside. The expected high temperature is 84°F, with abundant sunshine. In other words, it’ll be hot for these parts.
We’re dropping the pups off at the vet at 8:00 a.m. today. Since they won’t be home, I’ll make good use of the time to get the lawn mowed and trimmed and edged, as well as (hopefully), completing some severe pruning on overgrown rhodies, as well as cutting down and digging out a bush. My bin is nearly full as it is, so the mowing will come first, then the pruning. I won’t be able to finish all the pruning today. It’s times like these that I miss having a truck for dump runs. I may just be stubborn and line my cargo area in the Jeep with a tarp, load up the branches inside, and haul them to the dump. But I use the Jeep to haul the pups, so pruning may have to occur tomorrow.
Anyway, I hope to get to the bottom of the pups’ itchiness and get started on the road to relief for them. I’ll also get their nails trimmed, and obtain a prescription for doggy tranquilizers. Some moron was letting off mortars yesterday, and poor Maisie was a mess.
FCM, I’m glad all continues to go well on the cruise.
Metal Mouse, I hope you enjoy today’s outings.
JtC, yay for more baskets!
I don’t understand church “Sunday is a day of rest” stuff. To me, having to get up, go out in public, mingle with people, and sit through a sermon is not a day of rest. However, to each, his or her own. I know others find comfort in church. I do not.
I walked five miles with my friend yesterday, so that was good. I was ready and willing to walk more, but she needed to get back home to get started on her gardening and chores. I meant to go down to Lowe’s after the walk to try and find ladybugs, but I spaced out. I did stop for gas, though. Fortunately, I had a dollar off at the pump; otherwise, I would have been paying $4.85 a gallon! And prices will really go up starting July 1st. We’ve become worse than the state of California, I think.
I suppose I should go shower. I hope you all have a great day.
70 degrees. Nice. Off to church in an hour or so.
Then reading. What an exciting life.
Interesting night. We were awakened at about 12:45 by the tornado sirens blaring and my wife’s cell honking warnings of severe weather. We jumped out of bed, got dressed, managed to wrestle Sadie into her pet carrier (she was less than pleased) and turned on the TV. The tornado watch was to expire at 0100 and change to strong horizontal winds and severe thunderstorms. I turned off the TV and unplugged it. At about 0115, I released Sadie from confinement and we went back to bed. Lots of lightning, but finally went back to sleep. Sheesh. No idea yet as to any damage in the area.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 24c/75f with a predicted high of 25c/78f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “How many clouds does it take to fucking piss me off? Yes.” I don’t mind it being cloudy, better that than direct sunlight!
I totally understand not wanting to leave them short-staffed on a summer night, but you have to put yourself first - you’re no good to anyone (including Monkey, Charm and Pretzel) if you can’t stand without pain and discomfort. Get yourself better, and the universe will thank you.
metalmouse safe travels home! I agree, Southampton isn’t a very exciting place, and is one of those town that’s very much geared towards catering for the cruise ships.
That is definitely good news, it’s such a pain to find a decent hairdresser! I have stuck with mine for nearly 20 years, the salon has moved three times and fortunately it’s always been to somewhere that’s not too difficult for me to get to.
I’m glad to hear the cruise ship is pleasant and you’re finding your way around it without getting lost! Sorry that the city tour wasn’t that great, some of them tend to focus a lot on the post-war developments and then you get a delightful look at something the nazis didn’t bomb to bits.
Same here, I have little time for organised religion. The only bonus around here is that the local faith groups do good work amongst the homeless, a demonstration of them living by what they believe although for the non-religious, that’s also known as “doing the right thing”. Anyway, as you say, each to their own, we have a mix of churches, temples and mosques around my area, and they all seem to get along fine.
Eeeek! I can imagine that Sadie was not impressed with that. I’m glad it came to nothing in the end, and hopefully there is little or no damage around you.
Yesterday turned out to be a very busy day for me. I went to the gym in the morning before it got ridiculously hot, then went to help set up the stall for Little Paws at a local pub which was having an outdoor event. It takes four people to set up the gazebo so I stayed long enough to help put that up, and set up the tables before I had to leave for my appointment at the hair salon. After that, I went home to get changed, grabbed some lunch and then went back to help out for the afternoon. We had a lot of winners on our tombola, and we raised just short of £400 for the charity which was great.
I helped them pack up again at 6pm when it finished, then went home to get a fresh t-shirt and change my trainers, then we went out for a curry and then on to the Giffard to see a couple of bands. It’s month-end and you can tell…the Giff was having a beer disaster as they’d sold out of our usual beverage of choice, Shipyard IPA, and also our reserve choice, Beavertown Neck Oil. Fortunately they were saved by the fact they had bottles of Doom Bar and Proper Job so we managed to keep ourselves hydrated for the evening.
After the bands had finished, we wandered up to the Posada where the barmaid was standing outside having a break. We had a chat with her, and as she went back inside, she looked over her shoulder at us and said “two pints of Gem, then?” Not like she knows us at all, right?
We sat outside in their little courtyard beer garden, and were joined later by a couple of pub friends - Dave the biker, and South African Steve. Steve’s not actually from South Africa but he lived and worked there for many years, and always has a story to tell. Dave is just Dave, a nice bloke we only know from pubs, but always has a chat. Dave decided he was off to the Giff, we said we weren’t (due to the aforementioned beer crisis), so Steve suggested the Dive Bar.
I’ve been to the Dive Bar a couple of times and not been that impressed with it, but we went anyway. It’s up three flights of very narrow stairs so it’s a definite commitment. We had a pint of Roadie which is nice but a little too strong on the citrus flavourings for me, so one was all I wanted. Then we decamped to get a cab home, had a pleasant chat with a couple of community support police officers who were helping make sure people got safely into cabs (and making sure all the cabs were official ones). Got home just after 2am, had a cup of tea and went to bed.
Today, I have no plans. It’s overcast and stormy but there’s no rain in the forecast. We have the windows open but there’s not much breeze either. A perfect day to be a sloth!
Caffeinated and showered.
I have given the pups some calming medication before we head off to the vet, and we’ll be leaving in about 50 minutes for the vet.
Shoe, I’m sorry about your back. I hope you take care of yourself and call out today, and did last night, too.
Sticky, can you hear me now?

Yesterday’s local Deocratic Party caucus went pretty well, but it was busy! I sat down at 2:30 and started checking people in, and didn’t get up again until the polls closed at 7:00. Luckily it stayed cool where I was sitting, even though I was right by the doors. There were two moments when no one was in line, but they didn’t last longer than a few minutes: I would start thinking “maybe I can go to the restroom/grab my Gatorade…” and the next wave of voters would arrive. Counting ballots at the end of the night didn’t take as long as I feared it might, and I was home before 9:30. It wound up being a 7-hour day: not bad at all compared to working a 16-hour county election day, but quite tiring in its way because I was “on” for 4.5 hours straight (traffic at county elections is never that steady for that long). My location had just over 1,000 ballots cast, and 70% of them were for one candidate – there were ten running – so it was no shock to see the news this morning that he had won the party’s nomination for September’s special election. I will not be volunteering for that one; next up for me will be the county’s general election in November (back to “normal”).
I slept fine, but am more tired today than I thought I’d be. I actually have to work a little: there’s a proposal tagup at 10am, and I have some writing to do. I’m hoping that part won’t take long. I have laundry to do at some point, and a grocery store trip, and the dog groomer is coming sometime between 3-6pm. Whenever Bailey has a significant accident in her bed I clean her hindquarters as best I can, but there’s always some lingering dried poop that I just can’t get: that’s when I call the groomers, and the poor unsuspecting doggy gets a bath. If I keep feeling this way I’d love to try to take a nap before the groomer arrives, but we’ll see.
I hope you’re feeling much better already!
Yay! The first thing I always do when traveling is unpack and get my hotel room all set up: then I feel ready to tackle the trip.
“One size fits all” is always a lie!
That was the “or treats” part of “she still won’t eat any regular dog food or treats” in the post you quoted. Trust me: after 16 years of dog ownership I definitely know about those methods! This dog simply will not be tricked that way – she’ll eat around even tiny pills and spit them out every time – so for most of her life I’ve crushed her meds and mixed them in her wet food. But earlier this year I suddenly started having luck with Pill Pockets: I used them for her meds in the morning, and gave her empty ones as treats whenever we’d come inside. However, for the past 1-2 weeks she hasn’t touched any Pill Pocket (of any flavor), even when empty. And she won’t eat more than a bite or two of any dog food, wet or dry (again, any flavor/brand), so I can’t do the ol’ crush/mix thing. I even tried crushing/mixing in straight peanut butter, and she’s not interested. I think she’s caught in a pain/not eating cycle after having some tummy issues; I’m really hoping the vet can help break it on Tuesday.
Right now the only thing she will eat is roasted chicken, and I’ve been providing that as much as possible (while offering dog food from time to time). But I know she can’t live on chicken alone, and she definitely can’t continue not getting her meds. I’m afraid this old girl simply can’t handle the current state of things for much longer.
(Ugh, sorry about the ramble: I’ve been trying to hide it but I’m actually kind of super worried at the moment. )
Indeed! I don’t think I would have been able to go back to sleep for quite a while.
That was close!!!
I’m not getting much from Google, so what is so different about Rite I?
Nelson’s been itchy lately too. It did begin with chigger bites, but they’ve cleared up. Now, I think it’s a psychological thing, given that his world has turned upside down this spring and summer.
I hope that there wasn’t much damage.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll be giving Nelson a bath once I’m showered today. Trying to get his scratching under control, poor baby. I do need to step out for a bit, but not for long.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Good morning all - hard to believe it’s already Sunday! It’s going to be a hot one - up to 94F/34C. The weekend has flown by. Today will be the usual chores to get ready for the work week to start tomorrow.
A neighbor started setting off fireworks last night, and based on prior years it’ll go on for another two weeks. Multiple neighbors will participate but good grief how do people afford to buy and set off so many dang fireworks?? I was so glad my dog was mostly deaf by the time we moved here or she would have been a mess. Fortunately the cats are unbothered unless one is really close.
Meeting my sister and mom for a late lunch/early dinner this afternoon. Is there a fancy word for that? If brunch is between breakfast and lunch, does this mean we’re meeting for linner?
shoe I hope you were able to take off and feel better now!
taters Looks like your neighbors are as enthusiastic about fireworks as mine.
And maybe a stop somewhere with free wifi to redo that job application?
cookie Does your building have a tornado shelter or designated area such as an internal stairway? You sure have had a lot of tornadoes up there this year…
I’m so sorry, taking care of an elderly pet is so stressful and gut-wrenching because you just want to do the best you can for them.
misnomer, I well understand your worries. Sending you hugs
