I started a post yesterday, but then learned that someone from my previous contract has joined my current program! Woot! His area and mine don’t really interact, but he’s a good guy: I’m glad he finally found a new “home,” that it’s with the company, and that it’s here.
I spent about an hour hanging out at his desk and chatting about the past seven months*, plus giving him some basics about this program.
*As a refresher, my previous program ended abruptly on 02/28: we were victims of horrible timing related to an executive order and the start of an option period. He’d been doing proposal work all this time while looking both within and outside the company for something permanent, and in fact was involved with the proposal I supported in July.
That wasn’t my only pleasant surprise yesterday: I got home to find a small box on my doorstep, and it was the item I’d ordered 10 days ago that FedEx screwed up last week! I never got another shipping notice, it just appeared. Sent via FedEx overnight, with no signature required and the ZIP code hand-corrected on the packing slip…luckily, nothing on the outside indicated the sender, and my neighborhood isn’t prone to porch pirates. It’s a relief to finally have the (not cheap!) item, and to not have to wonder which day I’ll need to work from home in order to sign for it.
In other news, this morning I got my election officer assignment for Virginia’s upcoming general election (on 11/04). I got both the role and the location I was hoping for; yay! It’s still going to be a ridiculously long day, but those two things will definitely help.
There are always one or two evenings in the early fall when I look outside and think, “is it about to rain??” but it’s just sunset. Happens every year. *sigh*
Oh man, I could use a neighborhood version of that! I have lots of stuff that isn’t worth much money but might be useful to someone else.
One of these days I need to see if I can rope a friend into helping me with a yard sale. I’ll do all of the work, I just need another person there for security, if I need a restroom break, etc. (and for company!).
I’ve used CVS as my pharmacy for years: no real issues, but heads up that you might need to change your primary number with them more than once. It always seems to take multiple tries for any kind of profile update to take, no matter whether it’s made in person, on the phone, or electronically. I’ve actually given up on getting bottles without childproof caps.
In your case, wouldn’t it be PEBCAB?
(the second B is for “bear” of course!
)
That. is. awesome.
!
We mighta been!
Maybe it knows something you don’t, and was trying to protect you?
