(Old) Hunt for Bed October in the MMP

Easytrieve language was developed in the ‘60s and released in 1971… back when computers still read punchcards, which had a 72-character limit.

It’s a cost-saving thing.

Thanks for answering. It’s not the sort of drink I prefer. The fruitiest drink I drink is a classic margarita.

You have to ask? :zany_face::winking_face_with_tongue::zany_face::winking_face_with_tongue:

WiFi is back! There is much rejoicin’ in swampland! OK I rejoice. OYKW’s response was “cool, Ima take a nap.” Ima go join him after I fold the whites that are about to be done dryin’. I had to post this because I just know that y’all were fraught with worry over my lack of WiFi.

TPTB: “The RFID Apcalypse isn’t till next week, how can we annoy the drones?”
TVCTPMO: “Musical Chairs!”
So they changed around what package car sets got which cage, and they changed around a bunch of the loaders. I was supposed to be on 100 Top Blue, but then I was supposed to clerk the 200 Slide, but then I had to do 100 Top White, since Angry Rich called out. The change is also why I had one misload, because yesterday’s “100 TWH 56D” looked a lot like today’s “100 TWH 59G”
Me: < roots through damaged and overgoods, finds large white handle >
Me, showing it to J: “I think we lost a fridge.”
J: “We better hold on to it, in case the fridge shows up.”
But I came across the box, so it was just a handle.
And one of the overgoods was a Thermosafe box with no label. Which when opened, contained a gallon Ziplock bag containing specimen jar containing various organ bits, and labeled Mortality walk. So hopefully it was just normal death, and not me becoming Patient Zero for Captain Trips.

Any day without swamp ass is a good day.

Yes. But your boy has been on a 10 hour combo clingy lovebug/stabby psycho combo bender.

Good luck with Otis, FCM

Yes. Because without WiFi and gin, we are but savage hairless primates.
Also why I ordered a newrefurbished pc from Da Jungle yesterday. My computer turned itself off twice Sunday, and if this dies all I have is the phone. Phones just can’t do the same level of online mayhem as a solidly built way behind the curve Dell.

I started a post yesterday, but then learned that someone from my previous contract has joined my current program! Woot! His area and mine don’t really interact, but he’s a good guy: I’m glad he finally found a new “home,” that it’s with the company, and that it’s here. I spent about an hour hanging out at his desk and chatting about the past seven months*, plus giving him some basics about this program.

*As a refresher, my previous program ended abruptly on 02/28: we were victims of horrible timing related to an executive order and the start of an option period. He’d been doing proposal work all this time while looking both within and outside the company for something permanent, and in fact was involved with the proposal I supported in July.

That wasn’t my only pleasant surprise yesterday: I got home to find a small box on my doorstep, and it was the item I’d ordered 10 days ago that FedEx screwed up last week! I never got another shipping notice, it just appeared. Sent via FedEx overnight, with no signature required and the ZIP code hand-corrected on the packing slip…luckily, nothing on the outside indicated the sender, and my neighborhood isn’t prone to porch pirates. It’s a relief to finally have the (not cheap!) item, and to not have to wonder which day I’ll need to work from home in order to sign for it.

In other news, this morning I got my election officer assignment for Virginia’s upcoming general election (on 11/04). I got both the role and the location I was hoping for; yay! It’s still going to be a ridiculously long day, but those two things will definitely help.

There are always one or two evenings in the early fall when I look outside and think, “is it about to rain??” but it’s just sunset. Happens every year. *sigh*

Oh man, I could use a neighborhood version of that! I have lots of stuff that isn’t worth much money but might be useful to someone else.

One of these days I need to see if I can rope a friend into helping me with a yard sale. I’ll do all of the work, I just need another person there for security, if I need a restroom break, etc. (and for company!).

I’ve used CVS as my pharmacy for years: no real issues, but heads up that you might need to change your primary number with them more than once. It always seems to take multiple tries for any kind of profile update to take, no matter whether it’s made in person, on the phone, or electronically. I’ve actually given up on getting bottles without childproof caps.

In your case, wouldn’t it be PEBCAB?

(the second B is for “bear” of course!)

That. is. awesome. :joy:

 !

We mighta been! :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe it knows something you don’t, and was trying to protect you?

Meet Otis.

Someone at the rescue put him down as a lab/doodle mix. HAH!! I’m pretty sure he’s all wolfhound, tho a small one. That may be due to genetics or malnutrition when he was smaller. But he looks like a slightly sized down Irish Wolfhound. He’ll be seeing our vet on Tuesday - FCD will ask them.

He’s very friendly, but he’s a trash picker. Specifically our bathroom trashcan. He also pulled a ball of yarn out of my stash, completely ignoring the toys I bought him. The brat.

We just finished assembling his crate - that was an adventure. I hate pictograph instructions, especially with small pictures. But we got it figured out, so there’s that.

BTW, those of you who follow my sister on FB may have already seen: She will remain in the hospital for rehab and will be released when the professionals are satisfied with her progress and then home therapy. I’m glad they’re keeping her a bit, but I’m sure she’s not too happy about it. I’ll go visit after she gets home.

We don’t go anywhere near the interstate - all country roads. It was strange driving past our old house. We also saw that Daughter’s middle school is gone. They built a new high school and moved the middles to the old high school, then bulldozed the old middle. Weird.

Anyway, Otis is now crashed on the living room floor and FCD is having some recliner time. I’m about to assume the recline position, too. It’s been an adventuresome morning.

And it’s already starting - Otis follows me around…

Nope. I tried it once or twice, and all it did was give me vivid, bizarre, and disturbing dreams.

Otis knows who is the kitchen goddess. He’s a smart boy.

That’s smart. And this is one of the things I love about MMP. The current paste and location of the paste means the whole hand gets involved. But I have used others, which only need a finger.

Was thinking about gettting some, but haven’t found a local source. Gloves are easy to find.

Looks a lot like a mini Irish Wolfhound. Has he finished growing?

Had a fluffernutter sandwich, and have decided the bread is superfluous. Eating fluff mixed with peanut butter in a cup is a distant cousin to peanut butter fudge, which is one my favorite treats when I was little. My uncle would bake up a storm for Christmas and bring (later mail) a box of goodies, which always included peanut butter fudge. Last time I was at my parents, my mom and I made peanut butter fudge - it’s quick and easy, and doesn’t use marshmallows.

Since he’s estimated to be about 10 months old, no, he’s still got growing to do. We found out he was a stray picked up by animal control, so no one knows his history.

Our stuff went pretty quickly, including the pencil Christmas tree! I found a whole set of acrylic paints that I’ll give to my granddaughter next time I see her.

The wife’s 79th b-day is coming up on Thursday. She’s sorta freaking out about it. I said “wait until next year before you freak out”. It didn’t go over well. Anyway, we’ll celebrate by going to Costco, and then her niece will come over. I’ll likely make green chili stew for the occasion.

We went to a gardening meeting today, which as usual degraded into a lot of babbling and “what’d she say?” type comments. We load a couple of planters with herbs and flowers each year, along with our lone tomato plant, but some of these folks really get into it.

Today is all about me as it is name day!

Nice sleep in to 10. Started with a root beer float and snuggles with lager. Then over to Supercuts for haircut. Over to the local pet shop, koritza needs a clean toilet. I got catnip cigars for them join in celebrating. Cheeseburger at the local diner restaurant. Seriously good burger. Back home and my towel warmer arrived! Very excited to use that.

The cats enjoyed the catnip. Koritza played with lager’s as well as hers. They are happy cats. I’ve got tantalizing teal applied to my hair and am taking a bit of a break. Sadly, I have set the morning alarms for tomorrow. Le sigh.

Otis looks fun, fcm. I hope you all get along well. Glad to hear a plan is starting to form for your mom.

And if that ain’t enough geese for you, come to my irkplace in the winter. They’ve just started arriving, but we get literally thousands of geese flying over every day; they spent the days feeding out on the fields then sleep in the nearby estuary.

FCM, I’m also getting the purple screen of ‘Content not viewable in your region’ for what I assume is a doggy pic. Aw. I hope all the image sharing sites aren’t just not allowing us British to see them. What else is the internet for if it’s not looking at cute pictures of pets??

Talking of cute pets, I finally caved and got two baby ratties at the weekend. They’re stinking cute, but still jumpy. Both will take treats through the bars of the cage, but they’re still freaking out if I put my hand in, and run and hide if I move too fast, so I expect it’ll be a while before they’re properly handleable.

I got them from a pet shop, which isn’t ideal, everyone always says you need to go to a reputable breeder, but… there are hardly any breeders around, they’re mostly practically the other end of the UK, plus most of them seem kinda crazy, requiring a 3 page application form of increasingly unreasonable questions and demands to even get on the waiting list, and even if you’re accepted they have waiting lists that can be years long. There are also no rescues I could find in the whole of Scotland. There was, however, a pet shop that had some just 20 minutes drive away, which just checked you’re not legally banned from owning pets, plus had a cage and homeowner’s permission…

Someone at our staph beating last Tuesday has Covid, and may have been infectious then. We went to the Lutheran church Sunday, and everyone had to shake our hands. That afternoon, I was sleepy. When we went on our cruise a couple/few years ago and we got Covid, we were both sleepy. So for lunch today I drove down to CVS and bought a couple of test. In positive news, I tested negative. Then I ate some chile colorado.

The niece brought over some of her home-grown veggies yesterday: acorn squash, butternut, tomatoes and several kinds of peppers. We have one of the acorns in the oven with some hot Italian sausage. Dinner in about 30. We’ll have to do some stuffed poblano peppers soon.

I have not been posting individual months of my quilt project. We are in Month 8 and have enough pieces for some assembly. This is the 4’ x4’ center piece:

Wow! That is gorgeous!,

I’m flying home as I type this. It was a great visit, albeit hot as blazes. Love the new pup, FCM. I think it’s adorable he is already following you around.

Will try to post tomorrow. Hugs, yays, and boos as appropriate, to all.

hippie That is gorgeous. Nice work.

I had my eye exam today. They did a different thing than dilation to look at the back of my eyes, a sort of look into the light and they take a picture thing. Apparently my eyes are healthy, they just don’t focus too well. My back-up glasses are woefully out of prescription, I can actually see better (with the good eye) without the glasses. I’m still in the range of I don’t need glasses to drive, but I wouldn’t enjoy it.

The bad eye is a +3.75, the good one at -.25. I have no idea what any of that means, but it confirms my reality that one eye sucks and one works OK.

FCM Hope the pup doesn’t home to you as the provider/leader of the pack, and FCD can/will take on pup responsibilities.

Daughter and her crew came over with Trevor and a buttload of dog toys. The dogs frolicked. I fed the humans some sketties (thank goodness for frozen sauce.)

They just left and it’s time to chill.

Just as they were arriving, I got a bunch of texts from my sister, having a full-out pity party, because no one else in the world has ever had to care for an aging parent. I told her I had to go because everyone was here, and she kept texting, getting more and more abusive. I don’t know if she’d been drinking or what, but she had b****-mode up to 11. I’m guessing the next step is she’ll unfriend me like she did our other sister. I’ll give her some time to cool down, but I don’t need that kind of drama.

So, how’s your evening??

I’m doing my best not to let him bond with me too much, but for some reason, animals lurve me. But over the next week or so, I fear I’ll be in nag mode to get FCD to attend to the dog’s needs. We’ll see how that goes.

Recliner beckons.
