I used to keep a styptic pencil around, but I think it got lost in the move.
Mrs Magill and my sister have been talking - I pulled her in a couple of weeks ago. Mrs Magill will also be joining a group therapy for spouses and partners.
Maybe it’s the gin talking, but she’s the best thing that has happened to me, and I feel bad that she’s having to go through her own crisis of identity because of me.
Anyhow, I checked in to mention the Big Trip for next year is actually on. I can’t mention any details for another 12 - 14 hours, but this is big for a small town.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 39 degrees Ferret Height(3.889 Centipedes), and pollening.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 55 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and partly sunny. OYKW suggested last night that we go to the GC for lunch, so we shall. I suspect he has a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for fried chikin. We don’t need to do a big grocery shop this week, so we’ll pickup the bits we need at the Food Kitty on the way back to da cave. That will be today’s big adventure.
MetalMouse you deserve a
for all the hard work you do for kiddie soccer. Hope the back feels better today.
Now I need more caffeine and to eat a little sump’n so I can take meds. Then, since we are to be amongst the great unwashed, I suppose I must purtify and don acceptable attire. I do suffer so for my public!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Today is starting at 34 Ferrets. I’ll do a grocery run with a side trip to the thrift store to get rid of some stuff. Then I think I’ll empty the mulch out of the truck and do a convenience center run - the recycling is piling up.
I pulled a meatloaf out of the freezer so that’ll be what supper is built around. Beyond that, whatever happens is what will happen. Unless something happens… Essentially, not much in the way of plans for today.
Adventure, ho!!! Happy Wednesday!
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 7c/44f with no predicted change, and showers. Weather app says “If the fucking sun comes out, you might be able to taste the rainbow, fuckers!”
One of my sisters has dealt with gout. This would be the sister whose FB feed is full of what she’s drinking or where she’s drinking. Hmmmmm…
Troublesome Minion has gout but doesn’t drink so she must have something else that triggers it for her. However, telling everyone what and where you’re drinking, then either being surprised or expecting sympathy for gout isn’t going to work.
Should there ever be a crime scene in my apartment, the luminol would show bloody footprints all over from this and another incident.
Yikes! That sounds like it was a nasty experience just from such a small thing. I remember when mum was on blood thinners and got a nosebleed. I had to get professionals in to clean the carpet and we never did get the stains out of her favourite handbag!
He is the brother I have discussed here who is a major wine snob.
He will probably argue up and down that wine does not aggravate his gout, just so that he can continue to be snobbish about it!
The Senior Clerk is out a couple of days, so I’l be covering.
Will it give you time to bring some order to the chaos, whilst still ensuring Spot gets the top-shelf gin?
Maybe it’s the gin talking, but she’s the best thing that has happened to me, and I feel bad that she’s having to go through her own crisis of identity because of me.
The gin is wise! Perhaps she is having her own crisis of identity, but the support group may help with that, as will the family support from your sister. From what you’ve said about her, she sounds like she is willing and prepared to take this journey too, wherever it takes you both.
Yesterday turned out busy, I logged out of irk at a reasonable time and prepared campus food, then had a bit of sofa time with Blossom and a cup of tea. I fed the cats, cleaned litter trays, made my dinner, washed up and then settled on the sofa for a bit of Bridgerton before bed.
Today was off to a good start as I made it out of the house by 7am, and it had stopped raining. That was the only good bit! By the time I got to the station, 7 out of 8 trains had been cancelled due to a fallen tree just north of us having taken out the overhead power lines. Of course, this is the day when I need to get to work early-ish because I have a 9am dept meeting.
I squeezed (literally) onto the one train that was running to Big City Station, then the connection there was delayed by 15 minutes so I made it to the office 10 minutes before the start of the meeting! Let’s hope the rest of the day gets better…
The gin is wise!
The gin may have been wise, but it did not make getting up any easier this morning. My alarm went off, I turned it off, laid down for “a second,” and woke up an hour later. I am now fed and wanting caffeine (eleven more days!). I have my sculpt class in a couple of hours, so I’ll shower after that. Basic hygiene still applies: My teeth are clean, my face is scraped, and my underarms are deodorized.
I am noticing a few small things about myself now. I used to be able to skip shaving and be scruffy looking (so long as no one called me a nerf herder), but not any more. I find myself growing uneasy if my face isn’t smooth. It’s silly little things like that which stand out.
Anyhow - the Big Trip for the high school bad I had alluded to earlier is a go. I still am not allowed to talk about it, but as soon as the director tells the kids today, I’ll fill you all in. I’m pretty excited.
Anyhow, I checked in to mention the Big Trip for next year is actually on. I can’t mention any details for another 12 - 14 hours, but this is big for a small town.
… and she scrolls up to catch up on what’s happening with everyone, and realized she’s repeating herself. ![]()
Troublesome Minion has gout but doesn’t drink so she must have something else that triggers it for her.
Too much red meat? That used to trigger my father.
Mornin’ all.
It’s 41F and lightly raining. Morning showers will transition to a steadier afternoon rain, with a daytime high of 50F.
Red, glad you got the bleeding stopped.
Metal Mouse, all the stuff you do for youth soccer seems almost like a full-time job. You do a lot, and I hope the parents and youth appreciate it.
So, the sellers of the home my son bid on decided to pass on his offer (it was low) and not counter, and to have more showings this week. However, he has now decided he’ll try a higher offer. We’ll see.
I think today will consist mainly of RDOS activities. There may a run for groceries, but I haven’t decided yet.
Oh! We had a baby bunny in the dog-free area of my yard yesterday. The dogs were very interested. He or she hung out for a bit, but eventually moved on. I’m not sure where it came from, so I’ll have to be careful the next time I’m in that area.
Alrighty, time for more coffee. Please take care of yourselves.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. Sis will be here around 1100 for my doctor appointment and girls’ day out. Other than that, more RDOS.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Morning all. Woke up about 7am, back pain is 80% gone, only 2 soccer messages in the queue (both dealt with in a couple of minutes) and the weather is getting warmer, so may shape up to be a good day. Decided to pull the Heavyweight Comforter off the bed and take it to the dry cleaners so have the Middleweight comforter on the bed now and hopefully will have the big one back and ready to store before I start my April travels.
Herald, I’m mostly in Sweatpants/Sweatshirt around the house, as it gets warmed (like 90F outside) I tend to…shed..items.
Mollie, will wait patiently for the Big Trip announcement.
And onward into the day. I am still not using my water system frequenly, months of hoarding gallons is hard to get away from, but every time I check it is running great. Guess I’ll get used to it in a little while.
boo fae, glad you made it. I may have mentioned, as part of my big April trip I am going to take the train from Nice, France to Barcelona, Spain with two transfers, one only 21 minutes long. Just hope the French are on time and don’t have any trees falling…
He will probably argue up and down that wine does not aggravate his gout, just so that he can continue to be snobbish about it!
This is the stone cold truth. I love my bro, but he has a stubborn ability to consider his thoughts and opinions as absolute truth
So much gout! I have a friend of over 30 years with gout that’s only semi-responsive to medical treatment. Thin vegetarian for over 45 years, light on dairy, with great cholesterol, who has never drunk/drugged because she has type 1 diabetes to which she pays scrupulous attention. Apparently this is a genetic gout.
Just hope the French are on time and don’t have any trees falling…
I hope the French are better than the Italians or Germans. When I went to Italy two years ago, we had significant delays and when my daughter went last year to Germany, she had problems as well.
We are still here in Georgia. My mother is doing better than I expected. My sister is doing well, although it’s hard to deal with my mom, especially as she gets older.
I took my kids to the Atlanta United, Professional Soccer League game on Saturday as well as a Hawks NBA game on Monday. On Sunday we did an escape room with my sister and her son. It was a lot more fun than I anticipated. The guy doing the interactions was really funny.
The clues and puzzles were also such that my nonnative teens could participate.
I started my day by boiling some eggs, then converting them into egg salad. I thought about doing deviled eggs, but we’d end up eating them all in one sitting. Going the salad route is healthier. So that’s done.
First round of erranding is complete. I scored some used ground beef, and I decided it would become sloppy joes. SIL asked if we could do a family dinner after Roxy’s b-day party (I did mention that it’s going to be held in my basement, didn’t I?) I get tired of doing the same old things when they eat here, so we’ll have sloppy joes, air-fried tots, and some sort of vegetable item.
But I haven’t made them in ages, so I went to check out a few recipes to jog my memory. One that I read included chicken gumbo in the ground beef mix. CHICKEN??? I passed on that one, but I found one that’s very like what I used to make, so I’m good. Right after I post this, it’s back to the kitchen to get sloppy! ![]()
Once that’s simmering away, I’ll gather the household trash and do a convenience center run. The meatloaf for supper is thawed. And I got some little bitty spuds that will become roasted potatoes tarragon, since we both liked that recipe. And maybe cauliflower to round it out. And some fresh pineapple.
All righty - to the kitchen!
Between soccer stuff, handyman appointments, and backaches I haven’t made it to the gym this week. But soccer seems to have settled down, the Handyman estimate has been accepted (work probably will not begin until May with my travels) and the back is behaving, so I guess I have no more excuses, will pack my gym bag and head out to burn some calories. It’s 66 heading to 74F without a sign of rain, so a nice day to be out of the house.
This is the stone cold truth. I love my bro, but he has a stubborn ability to consider his thoughts and opinions as absolute truth
Yep, my little brother is just that way…would do anything for him but even the slightest questioning his decisions…
Sensei, thanks for the PM, hope things continue well for you and the kids.
FCM, hope the party-goers like your sloppy joes.
And need to pack that gym bag. Back in a bit.
Same load of FUBAR, but the starting earlier helped. Somebody ordered 4 solar outdoor light stakes(the nice ones with glass bowls around the light) from Home Despot, so of course the HD people tossed them in a too big box, with no wrapping in the box. Plus the usual box of wrecked tile. I wish I had thought of the business plan of making money by getting people to give me money to smash things and toss them in a bin. Naptime.
Adventure, ho!!!
I’m up for that kind of adventure.
Weather app says “If the fucking sun comes out, you might be able to taste the rainbow, fuckers!”
The new Skittles ad!
Will it give you time to bring some order to the chaos, whilst still ensuring Spot gets the top-shelf gin?
Well, it’s more like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic while Cthulhu east the First Class lounge. But it will keep Spot supplied, so I got that going for me. Which is nice.
… and she scrolls up to catch up on what’s happening with everyone, and realized she’s repeating herself.
Lady, we all do that. And sometimes we do it as well.
I wish I had thought of the business plan of making money by getting people to give me money to smash things and toss them in a bin
According to my Dad, when he was a teenager he briefly had a job working for the local council road maintenance crew doing that- smashing up brand new stuff. You see, if they didn’t use the whole budget every year, they got it cut next year and couldn’t afford to get the big equipment when it broke… so buy stuff and hire a student for a few weeks to smash it all up…
The garden’s going crazy here at the moment, and I am very glad I don’t need to go away this weekend, I can spend it desperately trying to catch up with the gardening, before the triffids just take over and change the locks.
Anyhow - the Big Trip for the high school bad I had alluded to earlier is a go. I still am not allowed to talk about it, but as soon as the director tells the kids today, I’ll fill you all in. I’m pretty excited.
The email is out, and now I can talk. Speaking of marching in a parade, Squeaky will be marching in the 41st New Year’s Day Parade in London. Our High School Band has been formally invited to participate in London’s New Year’s Celebration, thus formally upstaging our rival, who will be marching in the Rose Bowl parade.
Howdy! It was a chilly 52 ferrets at daylight with a forecast high of 71.
Morning coffee was Kirkland French roast in the French press. Wish I could have a croissant.
The princess dog and I went driving yesterday and there are definitely dogwood trees blooming all over. I did my canine enrichment duty, stopping by the Egg Lady’s farm to let the princess watch live chicken TV for a bit, then got home and had good intentions of doing stuff, but the Florida special elections were too much of a distraction.
I did some obligatory adulting this morning and am now considering a nap.
My brother and I had gotten a Scalextric set
Ohhh, I have a question! Did y’all constantly mess with (adjust?) the fuzzy strips on the bottom of the cars? Did that really affect the speed? I always wondered.
And here’s the latest pics of the track.
Trains and slot cars both! That is so cool.
I get more use out of my late father’s toolkit, which is," Call somebody."
Yes. I like DIYing, but not things that can kill me. I’m all “safety first” while Granny Gossip, who is fixin’ to be 90, is genuinely reckless. She still goes roaring around on her four-wheeler wearing a hoodie and sweatpants, house slippers and no helmet. I don’t know how she’s lived this long. If I make it to 90 I hope I’m that full of piss and vinegar.
Decided to pull the Heavyweight Comforter off the bed
Okey-dokey, I’m blaming you if we have another cold snap!
I scored some used ground beef
Pardon me, some what?
@JaneDoe42, Granny Gossip is entirely correct: the dogwoods are coming into bloom right now, just not in the immediate vicinity of our house yet.
First pic-- big wild dogwood
Second-- wild dogwood flower
Third-- lookit this little cutie I found. It reminds me of a bonsai.
Squeaky will be marching in the 41st New Year’s Day Parade in London. Our High School Band has been formally invited to participate in London’s New Year’s Celebration, thus formally upstaging our rival, who will be marching in the Rose Bowl parade.
What fun!
