(Old) Marching along in the MMP

That’s my oh-so-adorable way of referring to meat that has been marked down for quick sale.

Mollie - I assume between now and then they’ll be fund-raising all over the place. I know I’ve told this, but when I was a senior in high school, our A Capella choir was invited to participate in a choral festival in Rome. In 10 weeks, we raised $33k and everyone got to go for free. We did car washes and bake sales and a spaghetti supper and a battle of the bands dance and I can’t even remember what else. Bear in mind that $33k was a lot of money in 1972, but it covered our air fare, hotels, train fare, and bus from Baltimore to NYC (can’t recall which airport) and back. Good times!

The air fryer did a great job on the tarragon spudlets. Quicker and easier than the oven. It was a good supper. Now it’s time for mega-chillage!

FCM - Oh, yes. There will need to be A LOT of fund-raising. I’ve spoken with the dude who’s in charge of fund-raising, and reminded him that (as the DBA of the Flag Program) I have a list of over eight hundred email addresses of people who have already donated to the Band. So he’s writing up a nice sounding plea for a one-time donation. Hopefully, that’ll raise a chunk of change.

Hurray! :tada:Good job Squeaky! :confetti_ball: :tada:I hope it is all amazing!

It sounds likes she’s quite the example of “clean, healthy living”!

Oops was ready to sit down and chat, but rl keeps happening. BBL

Good! You need to be 100% to keep up with a bunch of young soccer players.

Da fluff?! That’s just wrong.

My PCP set me up with antibiotics and a referral to the podiatrist (my last one isn’t on my current approved list with the new insurance). She agreed that it was a gout flareup from hell. It got very painful last night and has had spells today when it’s been thumping. I’ve been adding the flare up medicine. It’s one that you have to be careful with, given that it’s used in applications like plant breeding and aquarium use. Joy, but the pain is beginning to lessen.

We went to Kroger, since the grocery where we usually shop has no electric carts and I really wasn’t up for walking a large store. Kind of bit me in the butt though. I spent ~$80 for what I would have gotten for ~$55 at the other store and there isn’t as much produce variety. We’re shooting for next week though.

I ordered two new bathmats today. When I had C-diff, Sis pitched my nice bathmat, my (mass market, but nice) bed quilt and all of my throw rugs that were out. Given that it was suggested by our med school nephew, she wasn’t wrong, but it left me with one raggedy (formerly) white bathmat. Peroxide didn’t take the blood out of it, so I ordered one in plum and one in sage. They’re hard to find in a size (12”X18”) that actually fits my bathroom. I’ll have the plum one tomorrow and the sage one next week. It still irks me when a simple change of color changes the price ($10 vs $12).

Howdy Y’all! We bellied up to the hog trough and then went to Aldi’s to get the few comestibles we needed. A German chawklit cake and a dozen cinnamon rolls jumped into the buggy (that’s southern for grocery cart, or trolley, or whatever else the things are called.) Nappage was much needed this afternoon. We also warded off scurvy and malaria twice whilst sittin’ out in the gazebo beside the cee-mint pond.

Mollie great news about the band! Hope the fund raisin’ goes well.

red glad your toe feels better today.

MetalMouse glad your back feels better today.

GenJ pretty pictures! I had a great aunt and great uncle (sister and brother who never married and lived in the old family house all their lives) who lived in the wilds of Randolph County Alabammy. The woods all around their house were full of wild dogwoods that were so beautiful in the Spring. Sadly, that whole area is now a residential development.

SUSFU! (Situation Unchanged – Still FU)

And a good late evening to all. Made it to the gym and got about 1400 calories walked and biked away, but the Cheeburger and Chips for dinner was a good replacement, so all is well. Catching up on my You Tubes (got “Irish People Try” on The Try Channel on now) and will be heading off to bed here shortly to work on my Sudoku abilities. Still about 65F outside so nice and comfortable sleeping is on the agenda for later.

Mollie, I presume it is not for London, Kentucky… Seriously, that is a big deal and will take some real logistical planning, but they have 9 months to do it, so really something to look forward to.

GenJ, they are predicting it’ll get into the 40’s Friday and Saturday night, so might have been a little early, but even the lighter comforter should keep me comfortable.
Love the dogwood pictures.

red, as I mentioned above did my gym workout and no problems, so whatever I did to my back has gone away for now. Don’t know what your other store is, but Kroger here is the middle=price option, between Wal-Mart and Publix. Enjoy the bathmats.

And that’s it for today, heading off to bed here in a little bit (2 more you tubes) and catch up with all y’all in the morning.

I napped. I woke up, had a martini, and chicken and wild rice blend with Morels, olives, and green beans. Watching The Masked Singer.

Congrats to Squeaky and bandmates!

“Used meat” = marked down for quick sale.

< writes down for future reference >

I’ve found that the Kroger stores here are more expensive than they were in Tennessee. We usually shop at Joe V’s , which is H.E.B.’s discount chain. The produce department has anything you could want at good prices and everything else at a discount. Unfortunately, they have no electric carts and today, I needed one.

Congrats to Squeaky and the rest of the band, mollie!

I started in the drive-up window this morning. Pretty laid back. After lunch, I went to the teller line with the intention of answering phones. The MSR next to me got the first couple, and other people picked up before I could later. I did finally start answering phones. The MSR who was my ‘partner’ today told Boss Lady that I ‘answered phones, and did a good job.’ I said, ‘Well… I answered phones.’ Most of them were people looking for a specific person, and those people were already engaged. But I did help some members.

Moneywise, things were going well until someone wanted rolls of quarters, and another person wanted to deposit rolls of coins plus a large number of ones and fives – enough bills that Boss Lady took them to the cash counter. (I still had to count them by hand afterward.) When there was some slack time, I counted my drawers and there was a discrepancy; a couple hundred more than I should have had. At closing, I was still getting a discrepancy so Boss Lady counted. I did miscount the folding money. The other thing was those rolls of quarters and dimes. Whoever had the drawer before me counted some rolled coins and other rolled coins as loose coins. Since loose and rolled coins are counted separately, there was some confusion. Anyway, now all of the loose coins are counted as loose, the rolled coins are counted as rolled, and my hand-count of the money in my drawers equalled what the computer said it should be.

I was told that tomorrow I will start on the teller line, so I can get my drawers out of my vault in the vault as soon as the vault is open.

I just know there’s a joke about keeping your drawers clean in there somewhere.

We were originally planning on opening he outdoor exhibits on Firday, but the weather guessers are predicting a high of 35, so that’s likely out. Do want to have the science park open next week since it’s spring break for the local schools and it’ll be a mad house. My shit is mostly done for opening, need a part or two from others to finish. Also need the HVAC guys to put the new equipment up on the roof instead of staying in the park.

I’ve got a wicked knot behind my right shoulder blade. This sucks.

I anticipated that.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/43f with a predicted high of 8c/48f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Each fucking cloud in the sky is calling you dirty, dirty names.”

It’s not a silly little thing at all, it’s all part of you recognising the person you want to be, and making that change happen for yourself. Be proud of it, sister!

I think it must be something like that because there’s not much else that you could point to in her life. Unless it’s a mixture of medication, stress and bitterness. Also, **congrats to Squeaky!*

How lovely! Spring is springing

Europe is much better at trains than we are. It doesn’t take much to cause chaos on the rails over here, yesterday’s train chaos persisted into today too.

Sounds like your back made that decision for you too, a few days of rest will do you good and you’ve used the time wisely to get everything else sorted out instead.

Lay on the floor and ask Ms Peach to jump up and down on it?

Yesterday was a busy irk day with three meetings to go to, so not a lot was done. The weather guessers predicted rain showers for my area. We had rain, sun, hail and thunder all in the space of half an hour, so they only guessed partially right. Travel yesterday morning was horrible as a tree fell on part of the line north of my station, and there was damage to overhead power lines in various places. Of the 8 trains running to Big City Station in an hour, only 2 actually ran and the second one was already scheduled to be late. I squeezed onto the one train because I had to be here for a 9am meeting. Getting home was much less traumatic as the local services weren’t so badly affected. Today, the same trains were cancelled so I braved the 50-minute tram trip instead. Definitely the most uncomfortable form of transport but it takes slightly less time than the bus. Good job I have lots of tea to drink!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 58 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 82 and sunny this afternoon. We shall be RDOS hermits today. Don’t want to people today. Sup will be sallit with grilled chikin strips and cheesey garlic bread.

FlyBoy good to know that you start the day with fresh clean drawers.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Today is starting with 50 Ferrets, on the way to upper 70s with rain moving in overnight. Looking at the week ahead, I see one morning that’s supposed to start below freezing, but from there on out, we stay above. I’ll give it a week, then move my plants outside.

The big plan is cleaning the aft cabin on the boat (that would be our bedroom.) I’m going to scrub the walls in anticipation of painting (maybe next week?) We’re also going to try to get the nasty, lumpy mattress out and tossed. We “slept” on it once - sheer torture! There’s other stuff in there that needs to be brought home, too. So a day of boat chores.

I know I’ll be fighting FCD to wait till it warms a bit before we leave. I don’t want my hands in cold water while it’s cold out, and he’ll want to leave within the next 10 minutes. So that will be a fun battle. He still acts as if we’ve got time limits - he can’t accept that we’re retired and our schedule is our own. Maybe some day???

Anyway, that’s our agenda. So far. Not carved in stone.

Happy Thursday!

I had a dreadful day yesterday. I was depressed, and I was wrestling with whether or not to continue going to the Rock Steady Boxing workout/therapy sessions for Parkinson’s. I think it’s time to talk to my PCP about a change to my depression meds.

Today, it’s sunny and 51 ferrets, rising later to 76.

to bring good cheer.
Robins chirp.
Frogs burp.” --H. Allen Smith

48F this morning and rain. Even saw a flash of lightning much earlier. It was so warm yesterday we didn’t need coats when we went out for dinner. Went to a Greek restaurant not far from here. I ordered spanikopita, which is still weighing heavy in my gut this morning and gave me weird dreams all night.

On the walk from the car to the restaurant we had to pass right by the Alex Pretti memorial, which is still being maintained with flowers and other things. A sad sight. There is a big “no kings” rally this weekend, which I have no intention of going to. I know the wife is interested, but parking will be a nightmare and I don’t like large crowds.

Welp. After testing negative for everything on Monday and powering through a couple of days, I got worse over night and tested this morning. Flu B. Lovely.

I can’t in good conscience expose my students to anything, so I cancelled everything. I have no idea how I’m going to make up all my missed lessons.

At least it was this week and not next week, which would have cost me a lot of money; I have 8 church calls between Thursday and Sunday. Which also means cancelling a bunch more lessons.

Whee.

I was obviously tired last night. I fell asleep while reading on the couch last night, and woke up just in time for my walking alarm to go off. I was up, so I walked. Mrs Magill, having missed her walking alarm (me), did not get up, so Chloé and I went solo, much to Chloé’s disappointment.

Last night was grocery date night. We procured provisions from Wally World and Costco, stopping for dinner at Squeaky’s Whataburger. He was busy at the drive through, so we didn’t bug him. We have a ham for Easter, and I grabbed some spuds so I can try FCM’s recipe.

I have my cataract surgery pre-op testing in a bit. I keep looking at the traffic, and it’s not getting any better.

Definitely the “real” London. Now you know why I’m hot to chaperone. We have a travel company lined up who is doing the heavy lifting when it comes to the logistics of moving 150+ students plus some family members. The director has been working on this since this summer, and she’s a former logistics NCO, so I have confidence.

Emphasis added

This is a first for me. Thank you. Yet another first this week. The other one was using she/her pronouns without realizing. Damnit! I’m tearing up again. You all are too kind to me. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Good morning.

It’s 34F and mostly cloudy outside. By afternoon, it’ll be partly cloudy with a daytime high of 53F.

FCM, I hope you win the battle.

Pavo, I’m sorry you’re still feeling so poorly.

AskNott, I hope you and the doc work out a solution for the depression meds.

I haven’t been willing to do much running around. Gas is $4.99 for regular and $5.49 for premium, which I need to use. That’s the price at the Safeway, a little over a mile from me. Thank God I don’t have to commute. However, some grocery shopping was accomplished yesterday, so we’re good for a little bit. Need to go back for a couple of forgotten items, but that can be done in a day or so.

I’m not sure what today’s plans hold. I may try to get that mower started if the moisture holds off. The grass, where it exists, has really grown and needs a haircut.

Take care, my friends.
