(Old) Missing an hour in the MMP

After a few days of being MIA, I’ve read all the posts but obviously can’t reply to all of them. So yay, boo, Happy Birthday, I’m so sorry, and good for you. I haven’t been off doing anything exciting, just chores and family stuff. And this morning I got a call from Mom’s long-time neighbor that his wife died. They were married 65 years, and she was a lot of company. I’m glad their kids are with him.

BooFae, ouch on the corneal ulcers. Been there, hated that. Good on you for going right to the eye clinic. I hope it feels better ASAP.

And now I have to leave, but here are a few thoughts I had in passing.

sticky buns, are you talking about disability insurance through your employer? Best of luck to you, as it sounds like you really do need and deserve the help.

JtC, a few things about Morehead and KY that you and especially hubs might want to consider: Only medical marijuana is legal there. There are 29 evangelical churches in town (plus 4 mainline Protestant, one LDS, and one Catholic). And the poverty rate is a whopping 25%, twice the national average. OTOH, it looks like politically it’s moderately GOP, as opposed to radically Republican, maybe because of the colleges there? And proximity to Dopers is a huge plus!

:notes:
Why do dogs suddenly appear
with rye bread and a beer?
Oh, good grief,
I smell like corned beef.
I’m lunch to youuuu.

I’ve got a corned beast in the fridge, which will be slow cooked with some Yukon Jack Gold potatoes with a hedda cabbage added at the end.

Just got back from my walk. 3.11 mph today. And that includes to answer a lineman’s question about an eagle. (It was a juvenile bald eagle.)

I am so sorry, that is so worrisome. I also hope it was just a bad can of catfud.

Being closer to a hospital would be good. It’s almost an hour to the nearest hospital now. That was just fine when we were young and immortal, not so much anymore.

So, what I’m getting from folks is that Kentucky isn’t much different than it is here. Greener and more water, big wind storms instead of wildfires. Racist and ignorant describes many of my neighbors and meth is an issue, but fentanyl is more of a problem what with one of the main smuggling routes being the I17, which is only six miles away.

And…he told me this morning that if we moved there, he would have to sell his Harley because he wouldn’t be able to ride it but a couple of months a year.

That is a game changer, it is super big. I’ve been getting very concerned about him on that heavy machine, his reactions have slowed far too much for him to be safe riding nowadays. Asking him to give it up would go over as well as him asking me to stop reading or doing needlepoint, so this is huge.

Last night I was pretty sure I was going to use my veto power (And yes, I have full control over this. I can live very well without his money, he would be just over the federal poverty level without mine), but now I’m not so sure.

You snuck in while I was typing. I’m a gimp, getting a medical card is no problem. There are 5 evangelical churches plus two Protestant and one LDS church in the Lakes, I’m used to dodging church traffic. However, today someone left a jesus flyer at our door, I think it was Jehovah Witnesses but I didn’t waste my time actually reading the thing. I was pretty surprised by the dark skinned Jesus on the front.

I dunno tho. Getting him off that motorcycle might make it all worthwhile.

Howdy Y’all! Been home from veggie cookin’ over to the church house for a while now. Needed to unwind and have a beerverage or two first. We sliced the corned beast and also taste tested. I am happy to report we done good! All the veggies except the cabbage are now cooked. Really don’t want to cook the cabbage until about an hour before we begin servin’. Cabbage does not take long to cook, but didn’t want to do it today cause I was afraid it would not be good re-warmed tomorrow. With the other veggies a re-warm is no problem. Lots of decortin’ for tomorrow’s festivities was also happenin’. The place is gonna look all Irish like.

Excellent! < golfclap >

And a good late afternoon to all. Got my mile of swimming in, was going to take a break and get another 1/2 mile in but the pool is usually crowded on Firday and no lanes were available so I Kroger’ed and came on home. Big Bowl O’Salad is on the menu for tonight. Soccer fields are closed today due to the rain this morning, we’ll see if they are open tomorrow.

FCM, not a terrible person, just a practical one; MIL will probably forget all about the shirts and if she asks you can tell her it just hasn’t occurred to you to try them.

Cookie, I used Uber a lot last year, always make sure to tip high for them, didn’t meet any drivers that were unhappy here, but costs in a big city are usually higher, IMHO, so I wish them the best of luck. Hope the cat recovers.

nellie, love that song adaptation.

JtC, a thorny problem; I guess the main question you have to answer for yourself is: If you re-locate and Hubs passes away not long after, what are your options likely to be?

Swampy, enjoy the festivities!

OK, 5pm so need to be considering preparing the Big Bowl O’Salad. Take care all.

Well, they’ve towed my car to the collision shop for repair. I’m hoping to have it back by next weekend.

This morning, when I was doing laundry, it seemed like the towels were taking forever to dry. Come to find out, the buzzer just didn’t go off. I checked the setting and threw the jeans in. While I was on the phone / texting the dealership and adjuster, the buzzer didn’t go off again. I actually lost track of time because Sis called in there too. The jeans wound up drying for almost two hours without the timer thingy moving. That kind of scared me, so I shut the dryer off (even with a load of wet clothes waiting). I left it off while I hit the grocery store and when I got back, turned it back on and threw them in. Worked fine. I don’t know what the issue was, but I won’t leave indoors with it on in the future.

Supper was a patty melt and a garden salad. I may pop some popcorn for a snack later.

red I have some related dryer paranoia about leaving the house with the it running. It’s supposed to end, but I don’t really trust it.

your timer is going out … this happened to us a while ago …at first it was occasionally then more and more and finally it wouldn’t stop …

Wot, no Speakeasy? We’ve been going there on Fridays. Tonight we went to Paso del Norte instead. Instead of a taco salad, I ordered fish tacos. I was expecting two, but got three. I boxed up the third one to take home… and forgot it on the table.

We are home. I am so tired and crabby. I took a nap earlier, but I am tired again. The good news is that it’s over with. They said it would be a couple of weeks before I found anything out. The scary bad news is that my poodle girl, Annie, had a seizure earlier tonight while sitting on my lap! It’s the first seizure she’s ever had. I talked to the vet and they said to monitor her and they will see her on Monday. :disappointed:

Hugs to you sticky buns and skritches to Annie. I hope that it’s nothing serious.

It kinda depends on how long after that is. A few months to a few years? I’d sell and move up the mountain to Mayer or Humbolt Station. Longer than that and my support system will be pretty broken, so I’ll go to Oregon or Washington. I spent a couple of summers in Longview and it had everything I wanted as far as trees and rain and green are concerned.

However, if I am the one who gets run over by the beer truck…hubs would be in a better financial position in KY than AZ because the cost of living is lower and he would only be a few hours away from family.

I also don’t like to leave appliances running when I’m not home. Nothing bad has ever happened to me, but I’ve heard enough stories that I’d rather not risk it.

I hate it when I do that. I hate it even more when it was something really tasty that I very carefully didn’t finish so I could have it for lunch the next day.

I will worry with you. Sometimes seizures are a one time deal with pets, I’m praying that will be the case for Annie.

I’m glad you got through your disability interview. Fingers crossed that the Teachers Union is nicer than Social Security.

So, it was time for my annual boob squishing today. It is so nice that the tech has improved so much, it was uncomfortable and not my favorite thing, but not painful like it was back in the day.

Hubs came with me knowing that it would be fast (20 minutes from walking in the door) and we went out for Mexican. He’s the man, he always pays the check from our joint account, but recently he’s been forgetting his card in the folder so I make it a point to watch what he’s doing. I wasn’t paying enough attention because while he did put his card back in his wallet, his wallet got left instead.

Of course we didn’t notice until we were home, so he went back to town and got it. The busboy (are they still called that) who found his wallet got a nice tip before hubs checked the contents and once he saw that everything was still there, the busboy got a second even nicer tip for being honest.

We got a whole lot of rain today, it looks like the storms will keep hitting us until Thursday. This has caused delays at Sky Harbor and with the spring training games.

The rain storms don’t explain what happened to a shipment of beer making supplies that went missing last week. According to the tracking number, it was out to be delivered but then went missing. After an appropriate amount of time, Hubs contacted the supplier and they sent out another batch the same day. That box was scheduled to be delivered today.

This morning, a Fed Ex truck pulled up in our driveway, the driver got out and looked in the back of the truck for a few minutes, then got back up front and left. An hour someone in an unmarked van dropped a beat all to heck box by the culvert and left. When I fetched the box, we found what we thought was the original shipment. Several hours later, another (maybe the same?) Fed Ex truck showed up with a not beat up box of the same supplies.

Hubs contacted the shipper and offered to pay for the second shipment because he would use them at some point, but they turned him down which was nice of them. (Of course, he’s been spending money with them since he started brewing beer, they like him.)

{{{{Sticky and Annie}}}}

I never do, just in case.

{ waves quietly }

Life really kicked me in the 'nads lately. I’m { looks down to check } definitely a gurl … but that’s what it’s felt like lately.

Plus I have shitty coping skillz.

About half an hour ago, I heard what I’m 86.2% certain was gunshots, followed by a coupla men yelling, and then the inevitable vrooom! drive-off.

Monkey growled and then stayed by my shoulder, staring at the window.

What a goooooood boy!!
Obvs. not that much help in case of shit, but at least he doesn’t abandon me to my fate.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

: quietly tacklehugs shoe :
Thanks for checking in

Still not bad. Mine typically sleep through gunshots.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 63 Amurrkin out and mostly cloudy with a predicted high of 79 and partly N.O.S. for the day. A big tboomer came through right at dark last night with big earth shatterin’ kabooms. Made for some good sleepin’ however as the kabooms stopped but it continued to rain even at sleepy time. The big feast is this evenin’. I will be over there around two to help with finishin’ stuff up and then we shall feast. Thus it shall be today.

StickyBuns glad you made it through and hope Annie is better today, poor baby.

shoe glad you checked in.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

I was discussing this very thing when I was squished last month. The tech said the equipment and digital imaging is so much better than the old film days. Still not pleasant, but considering it’s not required multiple times a year, it’s not that big a deal. And at this stage of my life, I consider it a bit silly that I need to wear the little capelet thingie, unless the room is really chilly. Whatevs…

I had a pretty good sleep - woke around 6 after an undisturbed night - huzzah. And while I was sitting here reading, I heard MIL call me - another huzzah, because just as we got to the bathroom door, she got shaky and had to sit. But she took care of business and I got her tucked back into bed - she’ll probably sleep another 2-3 hours. FCD is zonked out, too. Quiet time for me!!

One plan for today is a run to Food Lion. Another is some rakeage, as it’s supposed to be a pretty day. And finally, our corned-beef-and-cabbage dinner, despite there being no Irish blood in either family, as far as they know (I know my line is all Polish.) I’m hoping MIL will empty some of the bags of her stuff that we brought here - it’s mostly outerwear in 2 bags and household linens in the other 2. She just needs to decide what she’s keeping and I’ll rebag the rest and take it to a thrift store. I never did hear back from the women’s shelter.

So that’s the plan. But for now, it’s me time!

Happy Saturday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 8c/47f with a predicted high of 9c/48f, and cloudy. Weather app says “The weather is fucking boring. Let’s talk about all the things we can make with fucking kale.” Swampy, that sounds like one for you!

{{{{{shoe}}}}} glad you checked in, sorry to hear life’s been getting on top of you, I hope things start to look better soon.

{{{{{Sticky Buns and Annie}}}}} fingers crossed the seizure was a one-off and the vet gives you some good news.

Moooom you’re not a terrible person, just a practical one! Hopefully MIL will forget about the clothes, or you’ll just have to tell her you haven’t had occasion to wear them.

JtC sounds like you have a lot to think about there, but if a move to KY would mean Hubs giving up the bike, and thereby putting your mind at rest about that issue, it does seem worthy of consideration.

Red I don’t like to leave appliances running when there’s nobody around to check on them. A friend once left something plugged in and charging, it overheated and caused a small fire - nothing catastrophic but the smoke damage took a long time to fix.

Busy weekend for me, we were out last night to see a band and managed to get there in time for the two support acts as well. They were all very good, sadly the attendance wasn’t great (there must have been other things going on in town). When we arrived at the Giff, there were about four people in the downstairs bar, that’s the emptiest I’ve ever seen it. Anyway, we had a good time, ended up outside chatting to one of the support acts for a while, they were very nice folks. Got home shortly after midnight, had a restorative cup of tea and headed to bed.

Feline bums and tums has been done, the mogs have settled for their morning sleep now. I need to get another cup of tea and put some drops in my eye (they’re in the fridge so I can do that while the kettle’s boiling), then get myself tidied up to go out. We’re off into town for lunch at the Good Chinese Place, then we’re heading up to Sheffield to see a couple of bands at the Corporation. Nice little venue, I’ve only been there twice before.

Thanks for the good wishes, my eye’s a lot better today now that the drops have had a chance to get working. The course of treatment is two weeks, with the dosage halved after the first week so I’ll be taking it to Chicago with me!

I went to Steve’s wake last evening. He was the first owner of the company I worked for forty two years. I am sure I posted something about him here when he passed away a few weeks ago. I spent most of my time talking to Jason, the new owner who was the catalyst behind the massive growth over the last twenty years. I was amazed to find that my response to Jason when he called and gave me the news was quoted in the obituary flier: “Steve hired me when there were no jobs to be had. He saved my family.”

I was also sad to see that I was the only one of the past and current employees there. The funeral is this morning. Maybe some of them will show up.

{{{longhair75}}}

I was such a happy girl to see Miss Annie come running to the bottom of the steps this morning when I came down! So far we’re just sitting on the couch all warm and cozy. Hopefully it will continue to be a great day!
