(Old) Happy Memorial Day or Just Happy Moanday in the MMP

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and either rain/tstorms/apocalypse or just rain predicted for the day. TWPTB are kinda willy-nilly on that. At any rate, it will not be a day for quality cee-mint pond time.

So today is Memorial Day in the U.S.of A. For the rest of the world it’s just Moanday. Memorial Day is considered the unofficial start of Summer. It’s hawt here in south Jawja. It’s Summer. As I mentioned in the last MMP, we shall feast upon hot dawgs, slaw, baked beans, and apple pie since eatin’ Amurrkin food seems the right thing to do today. What are you other ‘Murrikin Mumpers doin’? What’s shakin’ with the Mumpers in the rest of the world? Tell it all folks. Let it all out!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Memorial Day/Moanday Y’all!

Hijack away!

Yeah, there have been MMPs with variations on this title since at least 2010 - ya got a problem with that??

We’re promised a soggy Memorial Day here in southern Merrylande. It rained overnight and more is in the offing. But it doesn’t really affect plans for us - no cooking out because our grill is dust-covered in the basement and we don’t have any charcoal. (Tho maybe I’ll dig it out and clean it for future use.) Daughter was hoping to take the kids back to the pool - may or may not happen. FCD is going to futz in the boat some more. I don’t know what I’ll do.

Onward! Happy Moanday!!

Dammit, bear - we simulposted! I’ll flag us.

OK, flagged. And something I failed to post in my start: (If you’re my FB friend, probably already saw this.)

I mentioned that my grands were at the pool at the marina, and Tobias was a fearless little fish, leaping from the side of the pool with wild and reckless abandon, wearing his floaty vest. After FCD and I left, Daughter took them both to the bathroom, then back to the pool. Before she got him vested, Tobias jumped in! Luckily, there was another mom right there in the water who got him before Daughter had to jump in.

That boy will need a sharp-eyed keeper, I tells ya!

Me: < dreams someone hurls an iron at my face >
< opens eyes, sees cat standing upright 3 inches from face >
Me: “Spot?”
Spot: “brrt.”
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Either I’m having morning thunderstorms, or the neighbors are remembering Memorial Day by reenacting the Battle of Tarawa.

Meaning it is now fashionable to wear the white Speedo at the cee-mint pond.

Pssst. You don’t have to clean charcoal, it’s supposed to look dirty. :stuck_out_tongue:

Morning all. Not a big Memorial Day celebrant, not since retirement and every day being a holiday. Thunder-boomers overnight woke me up several times so I am a bit short of sleep today, so just as well there is nothing much on my agenda to do. Rain has pretty much departed for the balance of the week and it’s supposed to get to 85F later today, so I guess summer has descended upon N. Ali-bama.

Only big events of the week will be getting my stitches out on Tuesday and mowage Wednesday, and seeing if I can stretch the underwear drawer until Saturday for a grand laundry day. No other rain is expected until Sattiday, so might get some things done outside (or not).

FCM, glad Toby is enthusiastic, but you are right, he’s going to be a handful and I hope it’s just never anything really serious.

Onward!!

Was really under the weather last week, so I’ve fallen badly behind on non-work stuff.

I also have a terrible case of the donwannas.

I don’t even have that excuse. It was a cool, rainy night here, too, so I slept like a baby.

Lotsa odd, vivid dreams, though.

ETA: one of the more urgent To-Do List items is hitting Wally World, since I’m down to my last 1.5 rolls of T.P.

Don’t anyone tell SuntanLotion though, okay? She’d keel over from the shock.

I always thought “Happy” Memorial Day sounded a tad off… Gotta walk the dog before heading out to golf.

I forgot to mention we are also havin’ corn on the cob. Well, OYKW will have corn on the cob. I will cut my corn off the cob before eatin’ cause eatin’ it on the cob squicks me out. I know, how un-Amurrkin of me!

MOOOOOOM I even looked before I posted but didn’t see anything. Maybe I was extra wired cause I did make coffee stronger than usual.

Ha! My shock is 2 weeks ago a neighbor had thos Large rolls that are used in public bathrooms and one lasted 4 days. Thats unheard of in Lotionland.
Its cloudy and rainy-ish today. Just gonna read.

Mornin’ all. Welcome to de facto summer. It’s 0930 as I start driveling. Been up since 5 caffinatin’ and doin’ stuff, and now at 3 hours post-sunrise NWS says it’s a wonderful 84/29 on the way to a cloudless 94/35. Feedin’, shevelin’, and shoppin’ are my next tasks after [Send].

Been a couple busy days at Casa LSL as I’ve wrapped up the few remaining loose ends and dealt with some long postponed admin crap.

Finally solved the glassware problem; I’d wasted some prime cabinet space on seldom used stuff and after a fairly comprehensive cabinet rearrangement I’ve got a happy solution. Once I get two key deliveries tomorrow = Tue I’ll be fully show-ready although minor nice-to-have stuff will continue to dribble in during July or Aug.

Took Sat night off and went to a local minor league baseball game. They used to be Double-A but in the big reorg during COVID they’d been restructured to Single-A. In non-baseball-speak that means the player quality changed from “Almost ready for the majors” to “Little better than rank amateur, but show potential”. The games are not nearly as interesting; you (well me really) can only watch so much fumbling at one sitting. At least admission is free for veterans, cheap otherwise and the food and drinks are reasonably priced compared to the Majors. Shame it’s a 40 mile drive each way. OTOH, the Marlins’ stadium is the same distance in the other, more congested, direction.

I think a beachy afternoon might be nice after all this indoor at-home time.

BB will be up on Fri and that’s good to look forward to. Rowwwrrr!! :rabbit: :rabbit2:

HL and I are starting to actually bifurcate our few joint admin things. This go-around on Thu/Fri was insurance. Getting her off my account felt capital-G Good. As I think I’ve already said last week, we’re really down to the short strokes on signing the deal; there’s no more debate about what it is; just the final accounting of how many pennies at “closing”.

Sat was HL’s son’s wedding in Chicago. The one I was planning to attend before the split, was strongly dis-invited from at the split, and would have enjoyed attending even now after the split although I agree that would have been real awkward.

HL Son and his new wife are wonderful people. If I have to lose them, it’s a shame, but a tolerable shame and well worth being rid of HL. For now best to just let the relationship slide and I’ll pop my head up over that parapet in a few months when HL & I are fully disconnected and there are no major distractions in their lives.

As to y’all …

I skipped the last 2-3 days of last weeks’ MMP. Hope most folks had progress without crisis. Yaays, boos, and sympathy {{hugs}} as appropriate to all.

Probably about time to teach him the difference between with and without floating. He’s fearless because he thinks he can’t sink. Truth is he can; it’s the vest that can’t.

He needs to have that difference in his head or this summer will be a series of close calls. At best. I grew up with a pool 10 seconds from the back door. A parent simply cannot be vigilant enough in those circumstances. The kid needs to be drown-proofed early. I know this wasn’t a home pool, but the example of home pools applies to the pools you visit also.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 14c/57f with a predicted high of 15c/58f, and rain showers. Weather app says “Nothing fucking changes if nothing fucking changes. And until it changes, you fucking get rain.” I’m sensing a bit of frustration there, Weather App! From where I’m sitting, there’s blue sky and fluffy white clouds, no signs of rain at all.

Moooom I read about Tobias and the water adventure, he definitely needs someone vigilant if he’s determined to show everyone how fearless he is. I hope someone’s explained to him how much of his ability to float is down to the vest though, he could do with a little dose of wary to go with that fearless

Swampy today’s menu in Swampland sounds perfect! Nothing special here today, I had yogurt/protein powder/creatine/berries for breakfast before hitting the gym, and beans on toast for lunch. No idea what’s for dinner, 'im indoors is cooking tonight.

metalmouse I hope stitch removal is quick and painless, and doesn’t interfere with any of your other activities. I had a good gym session today, shunted some weights around and did an hour on the cross-trainer which tells me I burned through 667 cals. I was half tempted to stop at 666 cals (purely for my own amusement) but I was less than a minute away from the end of the cool-down section so I carried on.

Pilot I’m looking forward to some pics of the new pad!

We don’t have a real equivalent to Memorial Day here, we have Armed Forces Day at the end of June which celebrates all of them, past and present. We also have Armistice Day in November, and VE/VJ Days but they’re not public holidays. It is a holiday here in the UK, today’s Spring Bank Holiday.

I got up at a reasonable hour this morning, fed and medicated the cats, sorted out litter trays, had breakfast and faffed on t’interwebz. Then I went to the gym and burned some calories, came home and did lunch for everyone. Just having another cuppa then we’re off to do grocery shopping - it’s usually a Tuesday activity but we are seeing a band tomorrow night, and daytime shopping today is a sensible alternative.

Today, I also has a sad. One of my favourite bands has announced they’re packing it in. I can’t say I’m surprised, they’ve had a few personal issues (the singer’s wife had cancer, the guitarist’s mum has been ill and needed to move in with them for a few months for recovery care, and the singer himself struggle with COPD) but we’ve always hoped they might be able to carry on. Now they’ve made the decision, it’s a very sad one for us as they’re such friendly people and they’ve built such a warm and welcoming fan community. Might have to go and play some loud music in the car now!

I think it was a true simulpost. Your electrons were faster than mine.

They’ll both be getting swim lessons. SIL works on base and can get them into the program there - at least I think that’s the plan. There are a couple other places to get lessons. Anyway, I’m sure his little dive yesterday probably taught him about personal buoyancy

HAHAHAHAHA! You made a funny joke!

But he’s got a good mom - she’ll get him straightened out, and she now knows how much more vigilant she has to be. My daughter was a water baby herself way back when - she knows the drill.

Just back from a quick run to Food Lion. It spit on me on the way to Leonardtown, and more rain is promised thru the day. I’m indoors for now with no plans to venture out. I pulled some ham out of the freezer - it will be the centerpiece of supper. And I got some makin’s for sketty sauce - not sure if I’ll make it today or tomorrow.

I think it’s time to read for a bit.

Well, good morning!

It’s 55 degrees Fahrenheit and overcast. The day will remain cloudy, with temperatures topping around 68 degrees Fahrenheit.

It’s scary when littles are fearless. I hope the dunk instilled a bit of wariness, and I’m very happy that someone got to Tobias quickly!

Metal Mouse, I hope the stitch removal is quick and painless.

I could not keep up with last week’s MMP, and I was busy and tired even when I got home. So, I’m sending appropriate ways, boos, congrats, and hugs to all.

The big all-hands meeting turned out well, and everyone seemed to love the location despite the long drive. I could see both the Peace Arch and White Rock, BC, from the resort. The bed was extremely comfortable, and even though I didn’t have a water-facing room, it was still nice. I didn’t explore outside the resort because my days were long, and the thought of driving just fifteen to 30 minutes away and back didn’t appeal. I did stop in Johnny’s neck of the woods on the way in to pick up some mini-fridge snacks, a bottle of Tito’s, and some Buble. That little grocery store was pretty damn expensive, and I didn’t have a lot of choices when it came to certain things, but that’s alright. I had pretty good meals at the resort, but they were proud of their adult beverages.

We had beautiful weather on the way up and at the resort on Monday night. The sunset was outstanding, and I spent a good amount of time on the beach watching the sun go down, the various birds, some kayakers and sailboats, and even a seal/or sea lion. It was too far for me to determine the difference. Before that, I met with the rest of the ELT for dinner and drinks and had a nice time.

Tuesday was very soggy, but everyone made the best of it. Staff started trickling in around 11:30 or so, and by 1:00, most everyone was there, and we started our conference. We had good speakers and a couple of team-building exercises, but even so, the day is long when people are presenting all day. I met the MPA for dinner and drinks, and then walked around to all of the tables in the bar, taking the time to chat with the all the different staff. The last table and I decided to adjourn to a different part of the hotel (a little game room), where we sat and chatted and poured our own drinks. I didn’t get to bed until after 11:00, and then I was up again at 3:30.

Wednesday was more speakers, then dinner, drinks, campfires, cornhole, lawn golf, and various other games. I had a nice time after hours, but the first part of Wednesday was hard because I was both freezing and tired. They had the AC cranked to Arctic Blast and it was difficult to concentrate on anything other than being too cold. We finally called and asked them to turn off the AC. The speakers were good, and it’s kind of cool to see how our funds and grants help others in the community, or help organizations in the community to help others.

Thursday, we had our final speakers, and by noon, I was packing up the conference room and helping others load all our stuff in the GOV. By one-ish, I was on the road home. I opted to take I-5 all the way down because 405 and 167 were a mess. We had a couple of sessions of stop-and-go through Seattle and Tukwila, but after that, it was fairly clear.

The pups were insane with joy when I got home. Buster jumped and had his legs and paws wrapped around me. He did not want to let go. Maisie was also jumping up and down and doing lots of happy spins.

I spent Friday tending to chores, and Saturday was just a day of recuperation. My son came up yesterday and hung out with us for the day. Today, I’ll probably do some laundry. Tomorrow, I need to call the vet because it looks like Maisie has ear mites. There was lots of ear flapping this morning, and sure enough, when I wiped out one of her ears, there were little black dots, which looked red and irritated. I cleaned her ear as best as possible and did the same for Buster because ear mites are contagious.

I’ll also treat myself to a pedicure if there is time tomorrow. And that’ll be my long weekend. I only work two days this week because Friday is my RDO. I should have taken Wednesday and Thursday off, too, but I have some catching up to do from last week, so it’s best not to let things get too far out of control.

Alright, time to run the roll-suck. Take care.

We did manage to get out of the meeting on time the first day, so I went up to my room to answer some emails and take care of some work, then I met the

I thought for a second you meant two keys are being delivered, and was like, “This man has … security!”

I think that’s absolutely the best course of action for you.

As the kids say, “True facts.”

I would absolutely not count on that at all.

That’s the most important thing. Plus comfy pillows, preferably in a variety of selections so folks can choose firmer, softer, thinner, fluffier, etc. according to personal preference.

Uh- oh. You okay?

No plans for today. I mentioned that my kids and all are getting together over in WI land, but we decided to opt out. The weather is iffy and I don’t feel like fighting the traffic, but we’ll see them all next weekend for the grandson’s graduation party. That will take place on June 1st, which is the anniversary of my son’s death (he was the young man’s father), so it will be both a happy and sad day. It’s been six years and I’m still angry with him.

It’s 55 and very cloudy, so I’m sure the entire Lakeshore is disappointed by their Memorial Day weather.

NOT MEEEEE! I love this stuff. (So do my plants; they’re growing like crazy.)

Monkey seems unimpressed with the wet grass … which I REALLY need to get mowed, speaking of growing like crazy.

Jeez, that’s a lot all at once. My congratulations to him, and condolences to you & yours.

Need to retrieve the bin. Also need to … { deep breath }

  • Get a payment plan set up with the IRS
  • Set up a fresh ASF tank
  • Head to Walmart for TP and other sundries (I’m wondering if I have enough left to hold out long enough to just Amazon that shit instead)
  • Sweep
  • Scrub the terlit
  • Put away clean laundry
  • Call my mother & pretend I totes have my life together
  • The aforementioned lawn cutting
  • Find a junk hauling service capable of removing The Behemoth
  • Hang a magnetic screen door (this needs to wait till the fridge has made it through the door, but we’re gettin’ to Fly Season so I need to upgrade these last two items’ priority levels)
  • Eat

… in no particular order.

Ok, I’ve just about had enough. We’ve got the life drama. We’ve got the job drama. We’ve got drama drama. Now we just got a call that my mom’s sister has passed away suddenly. I have no other details. All I know is that this was the prodigal sister that my mom wasn’t getting along with. No chance for reconciliation now, even if she had wanted to.

Oh brother. I really do hope that things can only go up from here.

I’m so sorry about your aunt … and all the other stuff on your plate.

I had to walk to the corner store, a 7 minute walk ( tums).
Checked the Doppler. Nothing.
It got cloudy. Halfway home the Committee decided to make it rain at my exact location, making my hair look frizzy after I just washed it yesterday.
Then, and I knew they would, I get home, 5 minutes later the sun is out.

I missed an entire week of MMP! From what I’ve speed-read, it seems like you’re mostly doing reasonably well, but I hope I didn’t skip over anything major.

Lots of general life things happening here, mostly good, but it’s leaving me with a lot less free time than a lady of leisure should have. I’m hoping things will slow down a bit this week & I’ll have time for the really important stuff, like keeping up with you all!
