(Old) Pole Dancer and Dasher and Comet and Cupid! - A MMP For The Rest Of Us

Merry Christmas, Mumpers!
And joyous whatever else you may celebrate, and Happy Wednesday if you don’t celebrate anything.

Mrs W’s sister sent us a “Christmas Story” advent calendar last month, with little figurines of Ralphie, Randy, etc. No fewer than five of the days were Bumpass Hounds. I get the joke, but that got annoying. I was sure the final day would be the Red Ryder BB gun, but it was Ralphie in the bunny suit. Very cute.

We had an impromptu Front Porch Happy HourTM with some of the neighbors yesterday afternoon. Ended up sitting out there drinking wine for three hours. Then we came in and cooked our mail-order Lou Malnati’s pizzas, which will serve as our Christmas dinner as well.

This morning Mrs W and I exchanged gifts (just stocking-stuffer type stuff, nothing big) and have pretty much been lazing around the rest of the day. A nice Holiday!

Windy enough to make the house colder, so we’ve set the heat to a roaring 71 ferrets. A certain amount of rain. It looks like we expect intermittent rain, sometimes heavy, between midnight and noon. The high wind warning currently expires tomorrow.

Spot and I spent the day napping, snacking, and watching (Gun)Jesus videos on YouTube. I did rearrange the totes in my closet. Having chicken and peas with egg noodles for Christmas dinner.

Sorry about MusicMan’s keyboard, stickey.

Sounds like my relatives.

Same to you!

Awwww.

If there’s nothing to do, yeah, it’s hard to stay awake.

I did enjoy that one.

Mmmmmmm

So Nelson will be chewing on Santa? Oh, my.

I forgot to tell you something I saw yesterday at the mall. Five people in their early 20s were doing some late Christmas shopping, all in matching pj’s. They seemed chill and cheery. It made me smile.

The music next door stopped. As if on cue, the music upstairs started again. Or maybe it was there all along, and I couldn’t hear it over the next-door neighbors’ music. My DIL said to think of it as proof I need to leave.

I hope in your neck of the woods, all is calm, all is bright.

*woof* Dinner has been dined. I only ate half of my baked potato, but I’m still stuffed. A couple of glasses of red plonk. I think it’s time for a Manhattan.

Prezzies: The cats got be a pair of grey jammie pants with small penguins on it, and a grey ‘Japanese cat eating ramen’ T-shirt. The Spousal Unit bought be a plaid L.L. Bean shirt.

Merry Christmas, Everybody! We just finished doing family Christmas stuff. We went over Nephew’s house for pizza, snacks, and presents. His son, wife, daughter-in-law and 3-year-old grandson were there. That child is a bundle of nonstop happy.
Then we all came back here for pie and ice cream. God bless us, every one!

Still at the hospital, waiting for discharge paperwork.

I’ve made it a life long rule to never go out on Christmas, no movies, no shopping, no going out to eat. Did it all today…except I watched a movie on my tablet in a very expensive room instead of just paying 30 bucks at a movie theater.

HOSPITAL???

When it’s doable, more info needed for the more worry-prone in here (like me).

He–wait–what the heck? What happened? If he’s getting discharged, I hope that means whatever is going on whatever is going on has improved.

Please update us when you can. In the meantime, {{{JtC and Hubs}}}

Oh, dear. I hope all is well enough with Hubs :frowning:

I’m not picky (other than gin, you can keep that) so I would’ve sat politely, smiled big, and downed whatever else you had.

And patted dogs, and said nice things to small children.

Family had a wonderful dinner at my place. My main food contributions were the ham, which was much bigger than I figured and gives a LOT of leftovers, and the croissants I made. There was a large cake, gooseberry, cherry, and rhubarb pies, and muffins. Green bean casserole, seasoned green beans, mashed potatos and gravy, potato, cheese and brocolli casserole, layered lettuce salad(MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE), something pink with Jello and marshmallows that was tasty, and I’m probably forgetting things.

I’ve always said family dinners prove the miracle of the loaves and fishes. People seem to take home almost as much as they brought.

We talked, played cards, and had a wonderful time. One thing in life I’m greatful for is that our family doesn’t have major disagreements. No politics are discussed, and we don’t drink. Well, we are not tee totalers but booze is rarely had at out dinners. Wine once in a while, or champagne.

After everyone was gone I sat down in my recliner and a couple hours later woke up from a food coma. Time to do the dishes, everything else was cleaned up before my sister and BIL left.

That sounds lovely!

Here’s our Chinese pork Christmas/Hanukkah meal:

Pork and Hanukkah? :grinning:

So Hubs wasn’t supposed to exert himself until he gets his heart procedure. Does he listen? NO he does not. He was out in the shed fucking around with the mower and fell and couldn’t get up. Then he laid there for almost half an hour because I didn’t think to go out and check on him. He’s 250 lbs, I am not able to pick him up.

Everyone who lives in this neighborhood is old and not able to pick him up either so 911 was called. They listened to what heart function he had left, gave him oxygen and insisted on transporting him. He wasn’t able to refuse so off they went and I followed in my car.

They are allowing him to come home tonight but he will be scheduled for his stent/whatever next week.

Still waiting for the portable ox tank before we can leave.

I’m seriously going to kill him when this is all over. Unless the fuzzbutts do when we get home because their dinner is going to be so late.

Happy first day of Hanukkah Lily. I would have forgotten except the reception desk had a menorah up.

To be fair, when we had the hockey convention, we had a Jewish blessing said over the roast pig.

I hope he heals quick, so I can help you beat him with your cane.

And let me guess, he’s too bloody stubborn to carry a phone to call for help or use a LifeAlert-type alarm.

Bob and I own a medieval weapon that’s basically a spiky metal ball attached to a thick chunk of wood via a heavy chain. Would you like to borrow it to “reason” with him?

Seriously, I do hope he recovers soon, and I can sympathize. Can’t even get mine to touch base with a doctor for a routine check, and he’s a 62yo type 2 diabetic.

JtC I hope hubs recovers from the crap enough so’s you can beat him into some sense.

My most lonely x-mas to date. I got too much crap to do in the shop, and a 7 hour drive didn’t seem in order.

Hope y’all had a better one.

JtC, I hope he’s properly contrite and will behave himself henceforth. I’m so sorry you had such an upsetting, worrisome, and hectic Christmas. I have a cane back from when I had knee surgery, so if you need an Emergency Backup Cane Walloper, let me know.

Update from Hell’s Mosh Pit…The music next door is still blaring with the bass turned way up. I decided to go for a walk in the rain, in the dark so I could at least get away from it. On my way out, I saw the guy who lives above the noisy neighbors coming downstairs. He asked me if the noise was getting to me, and I said yes and explained that I’d asked them earlier to turn it down. He went back upstairs to call the cops. It wouldn’t be a priority, but I hope they show up.

I’m going to try to see the manager before I leave for the shot tomorrow morning. I bet I’m not the only one. Misery doesn’t love company, and I feel sorry for the guy upstairs because the earlier rap/heavy metal from my upstairs neighbor and his next-door neighbor must have bothered him, too. I really don’t get how people can be so oblivious/inconsiderate.

VanGO, I’m sorry about your Christmas. If you lived closer and it were quieter here, I’d have invited you over. You’ve been going through a tough time for awhile now, and I know it must get exhausting. Here’s a comforting hug. {{{VanGo}}}

Happy Hanukkah, Lily!

That is such a good way to put it and certainly is true with my family! I’m going to steal that line, if you don’t mind. I’m so glad you had a good time. What a feast!

For all who are going through aggravation, I offer this inspirational poem from Ed Norton, sewer worker:

*When the tides of life turn against you, *
and the currents upset your boat,
don’t waste your tears on what might have been.
Just lie on your back and float.
—The Honeymooners

Some years ago an Episcopal church burned by arson. A number of local congregations offered space for worship until the rebuilding was done. The one they ended up using was the one synagogue here in town. It wasn’t all that far away from the church and it wasn’t in use on Sunday morning. The only thing the synagogue asked was that when they cooked breakfast the didn’t have any pork, so no bacon or sausage. Beth Sholom is a Reformed congregation, not Orthodox, but they just wanted to make that point.
