What fun! Will someone else have posted a MMP before I get this done! Oh the suspense! Will Twicks have to slap us on the hand with her mod ruler o’ doom for havin’ two MMP’s yet again? It’s a cliffhanger!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 35 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 70, meanin’ the temp will double today. Or not. One never knows does one!
Anywho, FWIW this is the (a?) MMP OP. What’s the weather like where you are? What funness is in store for the week? Personally I have to buy two more presents. This means a trip to  The Maul  and to :eek:Wally*World! However, I have homemade divinity, ginger snaps and fudge to sustain me so I shall survive.
Now I must seek more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. Only four days this week and only four days next week of irk so that’s a good thing.
Is “Homemade Divinity” like one of Terry Prachett’s “Small Gods”?
Weather here is unseasonably warm for late December even here in the Holy Land… it is currently 28[sup]o[/sup] outside (Yrupeean). So much for a White Christmas… (hint, the original wasn’t! How do you think the magi would have been able to see the consarned Star in the first place if there had been a snow-producing cloud cover at the time?!)
I am blissfully exempt from any and all Christmas shopping.
Good morning. It’s going to be a high of 29 F here today. Not sure what the temperature is right now.
I took a little trip with my mom to Hershey, PA last week. It was a mix of fun and not fun but I’m glad we went.
Today I begin the monumental task of reconciling, uh, let’s just say more than 15 bank statements (two bank accounts) in preparation for the end of the year. Yes, I know that I should have stayed current, but when the main focus of my business switched from catering to forky stuff this year it made things a bit more complicated. So, here I am. Sticks vs the paperwork. :dubious:
Special1 just in case you really don’t know the wonder that is homemade divinity candy this is the wiki on that most divine of confections. Oh and the stuff about weather, pfffffft! If one’s home is climate controlled as are most homes these days, there could be thunder, lightnin’, rain, snow, ice, plague and pestilence happenin’ outside your kitchen window and your divinity will turn out just fine.
Huh. I’ve never made Divinity before and guess I’ve never thought much about what’s in it. Did you make this, swampy? If so, would you mind sharing your recipe? I’ve got something like 1 1/2 gallons of corn syrup that I’ve been trying to figure out how to use for quite some time.
Ashes: I only bite my cats if they bite me. They usually don’t try again (Kittencat jumps up to demand snuggles, is tucked into robe.)
43 F here and damp, but not windy. I got my work schedule all tangled up with the holidays and need to join the Monday morning commute, argh! shopping and pirate radio later in the afternoon.
StickyBuns due to inherited sorriness, I do not attempt to make such things as divinity. Normally I would not mention her name as she drives me up the wall with her over the top to the point of fake accent, but Paula Deen actually has a good recipe for divinity on the Food Network website.
A[sup]2[/sup] I would quit chompin’ the cat if I were you. You will need to sleep sooner or later and the cat knows that.
Stop at the store, buy pecan halves, and make me a pecan pie. I made one last week and dang if it wasn’t delicious.
Speaking of pecan pie, I spent last week overeating what with retirement parties and Christmas parties and “I lost a bet to my friend so I took her to Steak 'N Shake for dinner” party so I’m trying to eat normally this week. If I can forget that in the garage are York Peppermint Patties (for peppermint patty brownies) and chocolate covered cherries I should be fine.
flatulence of midgets that’s what’s playing on craig kilborn. youtube is my friend. the cats are biting each other in the bathroom. this is not normal. they ignore each other mostly but they have catnip on tap now. diabeetus srsly youtube is messing with me it’s 65 degrees today and all sunny like every other day. where the sun spends the summer, feh. proper meds, not dayquil. yes please
Nice OP, swampy - I have been pretty much off my diet plan for the last couple of weeks and now you are talking about sweets. It’s just too much on a day like today. Over here it’s wet and cold and miserable, and of course that means I’ve been out all morning. Luckily it also means that the hexmas shopping is almost finished and now it’s just a couple of cards to sort out and all the gift-wrapping to do.
Don’t feel bad, soapy, I missed last week’s MMP too but I get the feeling it didn’t miss me at all!
Fun for the week? I am not working so today I met a friend for coffee this morning then finished off gift shopping. Came home for a very late lunch and will be catching up on exercise a bit later. I have a sore throat, stuffy nose and I’m sneezing so half an hour on the Wii is about the last thing I feel like doing but I need to get back into it for a week or so before we head off to Vegas and I do even more damage to my diet.
Tomorrow I need to buy hexmas cards for a couple of folks and a birthday present for a friend who turns 50 later this week. Wednesday is more gift-wrapping and the pub in the evening. Thursday is said friend’s big birthday so there will be drinks that evening at our favourite Latin American cocktail bar. Friday I’ll be recovering although 'im indoors has declared it Limes Day and since we only ever use limes to make margaritas, you can imagine what we’ll be up to.
Hexmas eve will be quiet, then hexmas day we’re off to my mum’s for the day. Boxing day we are seeing friends, then a day to pack and sort stuff out, then dropping the cats at the moggery and heading to the airport. Then…holiday time!
It’s been a stock weekend. I think that if it had feet, and was sold at the grocery store, I made either soup, broth, stock or gelatin out of it.
A chicken became soup for me and stock / pureed chicken for him, a couple bags of cow bones and some “stew beef” became beef stock and pureed beef, and a bunch of pig feet and neck slices became something called geladine, which is nothing more than pig-flavored jello.
Now, we’ve got several dozen bariatric-friendly portions of pureed meats and stocks that are so hearty that they turn to gel in the fridge and freezer. And a big batch of homemade Splenda-sweetened jello, since all the commercial “diet” jellos are sweetened with aspartame.
The only secret ingredients are lots and lots of slow simmering, and some mirepoix. People marvel at my collection of 8- and 12-quart pots. This is why I have them.
It’s just amazing that he’s already lost 20 pounds in the past three weeks.
And now, off to the post office to send out the last-minute packages. At least I do the pay and print thing at home, so I can just drop them off without waiting in line. No biggie, since the PO is on the way to the grocery store.
Good morning all. My honey has been gone 8 days now, but he’s coming home a day early! He’ll be here tomorrow morning. (Happy dance.) Even though we talk a couple times a day, I still miss him terribly.
The weather where he is, is miserable, here, not so bad. It’s 43F now, and should make it to 45F. It’s been exceptionally dry so far this winter.
Usually La Nina hates us and dumps rain and snow all over us.
I’m almost done shopping. I still have to hit the grocery store and the fish market for the stuff to go into the folks fruit and goody basket. I put smoked salmon, cheeses, crackers, candy and of course, fruit. It’s always a hit.
I’m also making two cheesecakes, one cherry and one chocolate. (boring.) I’d rather make something different, but these are the ones everyone asks for every year.
You know, peedin, that would probably work. I don’t really like pecan pie so I wouldn’t be tempted to eat it myself.
So far I’ve reconciled April through the current month of the primary account. That was the easy stuff. Next up, trying to figure out all the stuff in my personal account that shouldn’t be there and trying to figure out a concise way to account for it in quickbooks. But first, I believe I feel a chocolate chip cookie attack coming on.
