(Old) Pole Dancer and Dasher and Comet and Cupid! - A MMP For The Rest Of Us

Hurray for plumbing problems, right? I hope it doesn’t cause too much of a mess.

:people_hugging:

I am SO sorry, that’s gotta be heartbreaking. Can you recycle it for the metal? Maybe make a few pennies off it?

That’s horrible. Management is running off the good tenants for people who are breaking the rules and damaging the building. I do hope you can find something you like in time.

Woot!!! Enjoy your Christmas

Thank you. I think the main reason I get so mad at him is that he should care about his health at least as much as I do.

I do like how you think, but I’m thinking geese. If he’s not going to be able to run outside with one of his many guns to protect home and hearth, I’ll need to start raising up my Mothman Protection Flock ASAP. Now I might need a donkey to protect the geese from the bears, I’ll need to think about this a little more.

There is a pretty good pizza place on the way to Logan. On my way back from the gym, I saw that it was open and that the parking lot was full. Pizza is probably a good break from leftovers.

I hope your back feels better soon, stretching will probably help but maybe add some heat for half an hour or so as well.

I loved your urn when you made it, but I’m thinking that the colors would get a little muddy done in ink. It’s so three-d and that’s hard to get on skin. But, that’s just my opinion, your guy might be able to pull it off very well.

I’m sure whatever you get will be wonderful.

I am SO jealous! I have wanted that sort of set up since forever, it must make life so much easier.

If it’s not one thing, it’s another. What a PITA. I’m glad you didn’t lose any money and have to deal with that process.

Can she wear a big floppy brimmed hat? If so, she can pull the brim down over her eyes to shut out visual simulation. I hope the trip goes well and that her recovery continues.

Gratitude is always good, LOL! I do hope all of you sickies start feeling better soon.

I start at my last post and reply as I go along. I’ve usually read during the day but often can’t reply until later, but at least I have some idea as to what is going on.

Please be careful driving. It is amazing how much you use your ears in a car. I hope you get better soon too!

At the risk of sounding rude…when has traffic around Nashville ever not been slow and crowded? It’s as bad as Albuquerque and that’s saying a whole lot.

I’m glad you made it home safely. Don’t overdue it at the gym tomorrow!

At least there were no children involved, I’ve lived through enough xmases to know that I will survive, children don’t get it. During the hospital down time I distracted myself by using my tablet to shop at Walmart for plushies and then picked them up when I went for lunch.

I handed them off to the ER nurses to give to frightened littles. They sure didn’t make plushies/stuffed toys like that when I was a kid, nowadays they are so soft and so huggable!

While I appreciate the offer, I’m used to my trusty cane

Hurray for good pizza! Always look for the bright side, it’s got to be there somewhere.

I think that’s a genetic thing. Like how cilantro tastes like soap to some people. How do you feel about broccoli? I can’t taste a bit of bitterness but one of my sisters hates it so much even if it is drowned in cheese sauce.

:musical_note: There’s a place in France
Where the alligators dance
One wouldn’t dance so they took away his pants
The pants he wore cost a dollar fifty four :musical_note:

I thought like you did when I was that age.

Thanks again for all the good wishes. Hubs says he is feeling ok, but he is coughing much more than I like. No fever though.

He is the one who does the Chewy orders and he likes to buy different things to tempt our feline overlords appetites. Some of his choices are rejected so he was in the habit of pushing them off to the side and opening another box of something else. Last year, I would have given it to TC friend because she feeds the strays but that option is gone now.

Hubs put all of the snubbed cans in a bag and we went to the local rescue to donate it. We took my car and he didn’t complain about me driving (very worrisome). Then we went into the cat room and petted cats for a while.

He said he wanted a nap so I took him home and went for a very needed swim. My back has been aching so much and my shoulder has started complaining, gentle non-weight bearing exercise was just the ticket.

As usual the parking lot was packed and I was seeing folks going into the gym, but I swam alone for most of the time. When I got to about 20 laps (I really don’t know how far I swim, I start getting bored after 8 or 9 laps and forget where I am. Then I start counting from where I last remembered before losing track again.) Mr AllBusiness walked purposely out of the changing room with goggles and a snorkel in his hands.

He very confidently picked an empty lane, sat down with his feet in the water, donned goggles and snorkel, splashed a little water on his chest then slipped into the water and swam ten laps like a bat out of hell. He didn’t just lap me like most people do, he double lapped me. Not having to lift his face out of the water was so much more efficient than my method, LOL!

He did his ten laps, made a mental check mark on his list and then strode back to the locker room in a very businesslike manner. I’ll bet he didn’t even need to use a comb, his hair fell into place properly due to his force of will.

I stopped at the grocery sto on the way home and found some Tennessee Whiskey BellaVitano cheese in the deli and brought it home. I paired it with some one year old parm, some new mozzarella, blocks of sharp cheddar then added some garlic stuffed olives, mandarin orange slices, garlic bread, pepperoni and salami roses and called it dinner.

Howdy Y’all! Duty got did and we were bears who brunch. Both of us were in the mood for pancakes, bacon, and scrambled aigs. So good and we were stuffded! Nappage was required when we got back to da cave. We stopped at the Food Kitty and bought collard greens. A must have for NYD. Now I need to wash greens. That’s a chore for tomorrow bear. It’s almost sleepy time now.

Cookie sorry company cancelled. Bet you’ll make sump’n nummy with the seafood.

Coppertone glad you’re better and yay for gettin’ hired.

Flyboy glad the missus likes the smellum.

Oopsie enjoy dinner with your friends.

MetalMouse glad you made it home safely.

doggio glad the leak got fixed so soon.

JtC the description of your adult Lunchable sounds so nummy!

Let’s just put it here for those who haven’t heard: Czarcasm’s car was stolen and the house burned while they were away. Three cats are missing. Here’s the thread with the fundraiser: Help a longtime Doper whose home was destroyed by fire on Christmas

JtC, I hope Hubs is okay enough and I’m sorry he’s being so cavalier with his health. If you can train geese to keep him inside, that would be all to the good.

Thank you so much. I’ve been looking for some sort of update on that.

HA! He is skeered of geese. Back when he was a little jerk, he kicked one of his grandmother’s geese because that’s what little boys do.

All of the geese mobbed him and tried to peck him to death while beating him with their wings. Because that’s what geese do.

By the time he made it safely to the kitchen door, he saw his grands and his folks laughing so hard that water was coming out of their eyes because that’s what people do when a kid learns to not kick geese.

And just to make that trauma worse, he grew up to become an auto body repair guy. The businesses had issues with people breaking in and stealing things so many of them got dogs. The dogs would pee on the cars and get bored and eat bumpers and such so then most of them started hiring human guards but that didn’t work because they didn’t want to hire enough people to walk the fences.

The next attempt were geese. The gooseherd (?) would bring the geese to work at a set time every night and would pick them up at a set time every morning. That worked great for a few weeks, but then one day a management person stayed later than goose release time and walked out into the back lot.

The geese attacked. He tried to run back inside, but the door had auto locked behind him. He ran to the side gate but the geese kept mobbing him and he couldn’t punch his code in. Finally he tried to climb the fence while the geese were honking and pecking at his feet and legs…and got caught in the Concertina wire and hung there screaming for help because he had dropped his cell phone in his panic.

I quite like geese myself. If you talk nice to them and feed them, they will be your friend and let you stroke their necks. Plus, they are better than dogs because skunks are skeered of geese. Geese are awesome.

It was a very nice cheese, semi-hard and smoky tasting. If I see it again, I will buy more.

I had just watched a video about making salami roses so when I got the cheese, everything else fell into place

No, I’m not better. I improved slightly yesterday but theres that cough and I am too weak to do anything.
I went down to throw garbage in the bin, and felt like being carried.
Hate this.

I had a fun one today. Spitting out the toothpaste, post brushing, I got a new twinge in my back, so, yay…

Unfortunately, no, the local take metal and get money for it place went away. He’s apparently using some of his money to buy Carl Sagan’s house. I can bring much of the left over metal to the dump for free.

3 more days in my shop.

Oy, when good ol’ plain bureaucracy gets leveled-up by the byzantine mess that is the U.S. health care system …

Why, has it been living in your bathtub or something all this time?

Uh-oh, when are you supposed to start the new job?

Nicely phrased.

This brought tears to my eyes. You are such a good person.

Another busy early-evening rush. We had someone start calling 40 damn mins before we open, and the same person kept calling. (There’s an answering machine that explains our hours.) Plus other people trying to get through, too. Finally S.M. got so fed up she took the phone off the hook entirely for the last 10-15 minutes before we opened.

Let the stubborn bastard get a busy signal if they can’t listen to a simple message.

… not to mention the guy who pulled up in the drive-thru at least 10 minutes before open. At least he didn’t honk.

On the plus side, S.M. brought in half of a lemon merengue pie she’d made over the holidays … yum.

Tomorrow is Long Night, so tonight chillage shall reign supreme.
I have a N.O.T. and if the cheese in the fridge is still good, imma throw the spud in the oven … hell, if the cheese IS good I might make myself a quesadilla to snack on while it’s baking.

But for now, there’s a very warm kitty belly holding down my thigh, and a half-killed joint idling in the ashtray next to me.

That sounds like the beginning of a bad horror flick The Leg From the Sea or something like that.

I bought 2 nice bunches of turnip greens for the same reason at Kroger today. I’ll wash them and put them in the pot NYE, along some of the Xmas ham. I’ll soak the black eyed peas before irk and put them in the crock before bed NYE. The only thing that I’ll have to do much with on new year’s day is making cornbread.

Nelson just deposited Rocky Raccoon on my shoulder. That’s usually a signal that he’s in need of extra cuddling while I read in bed. He’ll get them, even though he was a little jerkface today when I vacuumed (I had to stop to pick up toys 3 times because he kept dragging them out of the toy box).

I am waiting for the background report. She said it would take awhile, thankfully. I can’t even leave the apt.

Forgot to mention, I got a summons for jury duty in January. I have never sat on a trial jury, although I was once on a federal grand jury.

I’ve been summoned a few times but never had to go in except once, and that time, during questioning, a jury was selected before they got to me.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 59 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 74 and cloudy with rain comin’ in tonight. I shall spend part of the day bein’ domestic. Prime rib soup (I wing it as I go cause that’s always the best soup) will get made and collard greens will get cleaned. We bought four bunches, two for NYD and two to freeze for future cookin’. There will, of course, be RDOS inactivities as well.

CupCakes I haven’t been summoned for jury duty in years. Last time was in the late 80s, I think.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Very blah today and with a mountain of dishes to do once my mom is awake. Yes, I’ve been rethinking the tattoo. I sent another idea to the shop to see what she thinks of it. Basically it’s a Hawaiian license plate with some palm trees, dog paw prints, and one of his favorite sayings on it.

I was sitting in the back seat of a friend’s car and I sneezed my way into back pain, and I was lots younger then. I’m sure it’s because I had to sit at an odd angle because there was no leg room, but yeah, there are interesting ways to hurt one’s back.

Can you set it in a pile somewhere on a corner with a sign saying “FREE”? Or is that a no-no where you live? I do hate seeing useful items go into the dump.

It’s raining as promised. FCD woke around 6 and I heard him go in to shower, so I timed it to get in there as he finished. And while I finished, he fetched McBreakfast, which I’m ingesting right now. I added pellets to the stove and cleaned the cool mist vaporizer and refilled it while he was gone. Look at me, doing chores before 7AM!!!

Speaking of McBreakfast, I had a sudden realization as I was finishing in the shower. A couple of weeks ago, we were out and about tending to something post-MIL and we decided to go inside for a McBiscuit. The store in Leonardtown has 4 kiosks where you can order food and it’s usually quicker than waiting for someone at the register. But as soon as we walked in, the young guy who tidied the store and parking lot rushed over to poke at the screen for us. I assumed he was bored, having done his chores, and what the heck, we told him what we wanted and he entered it all.

Yeah, he was being nice, but FCD is balding and what hair he has is grey and white. So I think the kid figured “That old man is going to have problems with this - I’ll help!” In fact, I’d bet money on that! He wasn’t snarky about it or anything - like I said, I assumed he was bored and wanted to help, but I think help-the-geezer was most likely the reason!

OK, what’s up today? Um, FCD continues to work on the drawings of his fuel tanks. He hates drafting, and it’s been 5 years since I’ve done any, and longer since I’ve used SolidWorks, so I can’t (and don’t want to) do it for him. He’ll come to me once in a while with questions, and after he finishes and prints it all out, I’ll go thru and look for obvious problems. Not sure if I’ll spot lesser ones. We’ll see.

It just now occurred to me - we’ve not heard from either company that we contacted for an estimate to fix our deck. Yeah, holidays, so I’ll give them a little more time, but we haven’t even gotten an email saying “Sorry for the delay - give us another week” or anything like that. There’s an Amish place that advertises decks - I meant for us to stop there yesterday, but I forgot, dammit. Maybe Moanday?

So, my plans for today? Reading. Maybe baking - I have the fixin’s for punkin pie. That’s FCD’s fave. Plus baking will warm the house.

OK, so onward! Happy Last Saturday of 2024!!

Sleep still thwarted. I’m not sure why. Some reactive airway coughing despite the negative COVID test. I’ll try reading for a while, Ian Nathan’s Anything You Can Imagine: Peter Jackson and the Making of Middle-Earth.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 4c/39f with a predicted high of 5c/40f, and cloudy. Weather app says “Is this fucking fedora weather? Nope. It’s never fucking fedora weather.” It’s definitely cloudy, also still quite foggy and that’s the third day in a row we’ve had fog.

It is very useful - mine’s got five shelves so I can pack quite a bit in there which is great because our kitchen is tiny. It just needs sorting out, it’s got a lot of tinned stuff that needs to be redistributed so that it’s easier to manoeuvre, and the bottom shelf contents need to be swapped with the shelf above. It’ll be fine once it’s all done, but I do need some extra containers as well.

I love it! There aren’t many veggies that I don’t like, but bitter salad greens are definitely on that list. Having said that, I don’t find lettuce very inspiring either and would prefer crunchy Romaine or iceberg over the limp looseleaf varieties that get marketed as “salad lettuce”. My favourite for years was lamb’s lettuce but it’s hard to find that these days.

We could have done with one of those last time we patronised a “screen only” place. It was at some motorway services on the drive back from Scotland - we ordered what we wanted and all seemed ok until the screen asked us if we wanted sauces with our order, 'im indoors wanted mayo and the entire order apparently collapsed at that point! We tried again, still wouldn’t work, then had to get one of the staffers to enter it manually at the tills. He was not a happy chap.

VanGo if you take metal stuff to the dump, is there someone there who sorts through it and takes out whatever can be salvaged/sold? I am quite sure that’s what happens with stuff that goes to our council-run waste disposal site.

Sticky Buns new tattoo idea sounds like fun!

Back to a more normal routine today, I went to the gym this morning and burned 666 cals on the elliptical trainer, then went downstairs to the free-weights section of the gym. There weren’t many people in there so no trouble finding an unoccupied bench and some dumbbells. I left after about 2hrs, hopefully before I’d overstayed in the carpark! Came home and had a shower etc, so now I am ready to go out again.

We decided to have a wander into town and get some lunch today, I’ve been indoors for too long and I need a bit of fresh air now. It’s misty and murky out there but it’s fine for walking, and there’s lunch at the end of it. He’s cooking tonight so no idea what we’re having for dinner yet. No other plans, and although there’s nothing we really need in town, it’s just an excuse to get out of the house.

For the second time within a month, FCD inadvertently signed up for crap that he didn’t mean to. First was when he created an account with Uber that somehow included a subscription to some business service that we don’t need and that got sketchy reviews (I saw that when I tried to figure out what the charge was for.) Luckily I got that killed immediately. Just now, it turns out the $5 for 5 days at BeenVerified immediately becomes $29-something per month if you don’t cancel. So now he has to figure out how to cancel that. Sometimes the man make me crazy… Meanwhile when I tell him, I’m the one that get the crap, because it’s always the messenger’s fault.

I think it’s time to get my book and plop into my recliner.

That explains all the locusts and burning bushes.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall sloth, and perhaps nap. Spot has a new hobby, slamming cabinet doors. Anybody want a free Tux?

Two of my favorite things, whiskey and cheese!

Sounds like something that would fight the Sharktopus on a SyFy movie, staring Debbie Gibson and Tiffany.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 48F and damp outside. I know this because the pups left wet footprints on the kitchen floor after completing their morning constitutional. Rain showers will start around 6:30 this morning, turning into steady rain for the afternoon, with a high temperature of 50F. It’s very squishy 'round these parts.

There isn’t much going on around here. My son stayed over again after working throughout the day. I need to make the stock for the prime rib soup, so I’ll probably get that done today. Other than that, I’ll knock out some laundry.

Nellie, I’m sorry, the inconsiderate neighbors problem is worsening. I hope management does something other than dither about it. The apartment management people sound pretty useless if I’m being honest.

Metal Mouse, I’m glad you’re back home safe and sound.

When I was four and lived in Germany, I went down to the river bank near my Oma’s house. I stole a swan egg. I was chased back to my Oma’s house, which was a bit of distance. That swan was scary. I planned to hatch the egg and have a pet swan. Oma decided we’d be better off eating it. I was very sad.

Okay, I need to finish coffee and do some tidying—hugs to everyone, and best wishes for an easy day.
