I love the portals for all things medical. All of our providers, as well as the hospital, are part of the MedStar network. So all the info is available to all offices. It beats having to fill out paperwork over and over again. Plus, theoretically, all the doctors know what all the others have prescribed.
I also like being able to send an email with quick questions that don’t require an appointment or a phone call. They get back to me when they’re able and I get my answer with minimal inconvenience to me.
Punkin pies are baked. Rain continues. FCD is napping and I’ll get back to my book. Lazy afternoon.
I once saw eternity defined as two people and a ham.
Just now I have ham and bean soup simmering away on the stove. It’s close to being done. Not a bit of commercial seasoning. I first cooked down the bone, let the broth cool and skimmed off the fat. Yesterday I started beans soaking and this morning rinsed them of and put them on to simmer. I’ve added finely chopped celery, onion and carrot, and of course ham.
I’m still in my home office. I had to log into work to approve timesheets and draft/submit my weekly report: it was supposed to take <30 min, but I discovered that my new employee – who worked Mon, Thurs, and yesterday – hadn’t updated a key spreadsheet all week despite there being several changes to the information. He’s been with me for 6 months and is generally a good guy/doing well, but he’s been told repeatedly that keeping the spreadsheet up to date is one of his main job duties. So I had to make the updates, and I also drafted an email that I’ll send him on Monday morning (along the lines of “come up with an idea and let me know by COB what steps you plan to take to make sure you stay on top of this”). 2 hrs later, I’m finally about to relocate to the LR and have some lunch.
Same here! I always have a small bottle of water next to the bed, because sometimes after I’ve gotten up to pee in the middle of the night my throat will be very dry (it’s a vicious cycle, I tell ya). I definitely drink whenever I cough; it helps.
Ha! I tend to stick with Halls.
I’d already cleaned it up – carefully – but I’m sure there will be more proof by the time someone comes out. In fact, I prefer that so I can narrow down the “they’re heee–rrre!” timeframe better (I don’t open that cabinet very often).
ISWYDT
Thanks, but that’s for chest congestion; this is just a head cold. I’m really hoping it stays in my head, too. As annoying as the random coughing fits are, the kind of coughing that accompanies chest congestion is much more annoying – and more of the ab workout that shoe mentioned above.
Could it have been in flyboy’s post from ~2 hrs ago?
Mucinex works great for head/sinus congestion as well! I struggle with allergies a lot so I always keep a box on hand - nothing unclogs my sinuses or ears better, and I can usually head off a sinus infection that way.
Baker do you have a recipe for your beans, or could you provide maybe some ratios? I’ve got a ham bone from Christmas that I want to make beans with, but haven’t ever done so before.
Well, it was a big meaty bone, with scraps attatched. I simmered it at low overnight. I let the water cool and skimmed off the fat.
I used Great Northern white beans, soaking them overnight as directed(one pound bag) , poured the soaking water off and rinsed the beans. I simmered the beans on low temp for around 2-1/2 hours, or almost completely tender, then added four and a half ounces each of finely chopped celery, onion and carrots. About nine ounces of chopped ham. If too much liquid cooks away add a little more broth if you still have it, or water. It’s done when beans are soft but not squashed and mushy.
Sorry, it’s not so much a recipe as a set of suggestions.
I wanted to see if the new People was at the library ( it was!) So bussed there.
When I got home, the fatigue went away…was it because it had been a week and would’ve happened or going walking a few feet and breathing fresh air.
Who knows.
Now I am craving some pork fried rice but cannit afford.
I just got my second ever jury call in the mail today. Yay. My first one…7-8 years ago, I called the night before and they said you don’t need to come in, so here’s hoping that happens again.
The shop is mostly empty, just a few more things to take off the walls, get my CNC back to my garage and store the table saw at my friend’s place.
I got two jury summons in Portland. First one I got impaneled and sat through a civil lawsuit case where the plaintiff claimed the phlebotomist at the hospital had damaged her arm nerves. We found for the plaintiff for $500K. Second time, I was past the age limit and didn’t have to go.
And a late afternoon/early evening to all. Did mailage and then went to the gym for a couple hours (a week off meant my thighs were sore by the time I was done) and managed to beat the rain home. Off-and-on rain the rest of the evening and about 11pm some severe T-storms are due, so sleeping tonight might be interrupted…but hopefully not by the tornado siren…
Coppertone, glad you are feeling better.
cookie, just look at it that you have a lifetime supply of ham-n-cheese sammiches…I could live on that for a good while…and washing the car when it’s in the 30’s…that’s what car washes were invented for…
shoe, I am well and truly puzzled why I’ve never been summoned, I’m registered, have a drivers license and pay my taxes, so they should know I’m around. Maybe if I hit the Mega Millions tonight they’ll know who I am…(yeah, right…)
Oopsie, glad you could celebrate with your friends, now get yourself well! And hope Orkin can help you out.
rocky, thanks for the tip, haven’t had much coughing problems recently (looks over shoulder to see if Murphy is watching) but will try to remember that.
wet one, hope the MRI helps the medicos decide on the proper treatment.
I had a Jersey MIke’s ham-n-cheese sub last night and have a package of Oscar Mayer Chopped Ham in the refrigerator, but that’s all I got on the ham front.
I have yet to be summoned for jury duty. They probably look at my online posts and think “Absolutely not.”
“I like to have a martini/Two at the very most/After three I’m under the table/After four I’m under my host.”
Although I’m having a Vieux Carré tonight.
Goride used to sleep on a towel(he kept one in every room)
My symptom now, and through most of this, was my stomach felt discomfort.
So I took a Dopers advice ( always do this) and made some hot tea.
It relieved it somewhat. I burped.
Why is my stomach uncomfy, a virus?
Howdy Y’all! I cleaned collard greens and made some tasty soup. Then I achieved nappage after which we day drank. It was martini day. Then more soup with crusty bread for sup. Thus has been the day in swampland.
No ham has been eaten, but there is a ham in da freezer and there will be ham hocks in the greens and peas on NYD.
BooFae you burned the calories of the beast. Tres cool!
rocker I say you made a wise decision to stay home and warm.
MOOOOOOM he was a nice young man helpin’ out the old codgers. I prefer to use the app. Order, pay for it, pull it a pickup spot, put the spot number in the app and someone appears in a couple of minutes with the food. I feel so techy when I do that.
Cookie sorry about the New Year plans. Hope y’all avoid the virus.
shoe did you just call us hams?
Oopsie glad you had such a good time with your friends. Hope you’re feelin’ better soonest.h
You are mistaking me for FCM, she’s the one who is nice damnit! I was bored and the crisis was over and there was a fussy child somewhere in hearing range which was annoying me.
That sounds pretty awesome!
You are a good daughter to not want to wash dishes too early in the morning
I sure do agree with that. A few loose spinach leaves and maybe a little bit of kale is acceptable, I want the crunch!
I thought of you when I saw it.
I can understand their point of view. Sometimes you just need a good pizza! We wanted to order a pizza tonight but they were so busy that we couldn’t wait so I made something else. Tomorrow we are going to Charleston (hour drive, no toll roads so I will be driving my car) because we still want pizza and while the local place has the best pizza in the area, Pints and Pies has the very best white garlic pizza ever.
I would have been sad too. You deserved a cygnet for being so brave!
(How was it? I’ve eaten eggs from a variety of birds and it seems to me that they all taste the same. From quail to ostrich, the main difference seems to be the size. Or maybe that’s just me.)
I used to leave my alarm set on the weekends just so I could enjoy the feeling of being able to shut it off and go back to sleep.
I got my ass kicked by a peacock when I was a full grown adult. Pissed off big birds are no joke!
Hubs was so mad at me when he told me about the manager because I couldn’t help but laugh. “How could I be so heartless?!? That would be his worse nightmare!” Which of course made me laugh even harder.
I hope they fine him a whole lot of money and then the people who’s things got damaged sue him for even more money.
Well, dangit! I hope you don’t join the club. I will say that you can never have too much cheese.
You have my sympathy. I hate getting sick, ain’t nobody got time for this.
The nurse at the desk looked super happy to get them. I don’t really care who she gave them to as long as she didn’t take them home and give them to her kids. Or maybe I wouldn’t care about that either…
Something I used to do before we moved was to go to thrift stores and buy gently used childrens books that could often be had for a dollar a bag. Then I would keep them in my car and whenever I was in a place that children waited…laundromats, food stamp waiting areas, bus stops, etc I’d leave a pile. If I went back to the same place and the books were gone, I would leave more books.
I need to start doing that again. It costs so little but has the potential to improve my life by helping the new generation of taxpayers to learn to read.
That does sound nice, doesn’t it?
This is rather worrisome. I hope it suddenly decides to get with the program while you are sleeping tonight.
I won’t look at the online portal. I don’t understand the results so I ask Dr. Google and scare myself.
If you have to serve, I hope you get nice civil cases. Or maybe a shut and dry Drunk and Disorderly.
I served twice on ugly cases and will not do it again. No more murder cases ever, I can still see the pictures they showed us over and over and over.
She loves you, silly. she wants to be close but still isn’t sure about the actual bed.
So things here continue onward. Hubs is still coughing, but no fever. He says he feels fine, but he sure doesn’t sound it
We had the electrician over today, it was scheduled for yesterday but he had to take his truck to get something done. He installed a new ceiling light/vent fan/heat lamp in the big bathroom along with timer switches. It looks much better and is so much quieter.
Hubs and Luke talked the entire time which made Jolene lose her little kitty mind. Two men were talking and neither of them were talking to her! She would run to Hubs and squeak at him then run back and jump on the tree by my desk and tell me all about it.
