I’m sure it’s not at all obscure to people my age or older, but I’ve always wondered why Heckle and Jeckle cartoons never showed up on TVs later than some point in the mid-80s.
Wikipedia says that’s when all Terrytoon TV rights were bought by USA Network.
I’m bumping this because it sounds totally creepy to me. Anybody else remember this program?
I’d mentioned this several times before here and no one ever picked up on it which really surprised me. I was just young enough for it to seem scandalous, that and being forbidden to watch it. It would be entertaining to see it in reruns sometime, although it likely would be far more cheesy and less naughty than it seemed way back then.
That explains why I haven’t seen any Possible Possum cartoons either.
Sounds a “Gigglesnort Hotel” ripoff. Perhaps this was the syndicated version?
He and Soupy Sales were the Channel 5 contingent, the rest were Channel 11. I think WNEw must have paid better, since their shows had better writing, higher budgets, and weren’t just frames around cartoons.
He showed Popeye, right?
About the only one of these guys who had a career. He was on The First Family album, and did commercials.
He dressed up as a ringmaster, right? I forget what he showed.
He’s still working, doing a lot of voice work and appearing in commercials. He actually had a segment in The Aristocrats, doing a non-blue version of the joke to an animated scene.
I watched a few episodes of Love, American Style at the Museum of the Moving Image about a decade ago. Imagine Three’s Company with new characters every week.
Not many people know that Happy Days originated as a Love, American Style segment … .
It might be “Gigglesnort Hotel.” In looking at it on the web, I certainly recall seeing the show, but I don’t know if it was that particular show that had the scene I described.
Falls on the floor in shock
That’s amazing and exactly right.
Good memory–Capt. Jack did show Popeye cartoons. He was also the MC for the annual NY St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Right on Claude Kirshner, too. He actually had several shows; he hosted a horror movie program on Saturday mornings, had a weekday show called The Scrub Club, and, IIRC, his main cartoon fare was Crusader Rabbit.
And speaking of rabbits, how about:
“Sheriff… BING-BING-BINNNNG…Ricochet Rabbit!”
Gigglesnort had Dirty Dragon in the basement; Dirty was responsibile for the hotel’s heat and would frequently talk with BJ, who (IIRC) fed him coal. Someone mentioned that BJ and Dirty Dragon were exclusive to the Chicago area and the synciated version had neither, which is why I think the show you remember could be that.
God, I love this thread! Every time I post, I remember something else a few minutes later!
Klondike Cat:
“I’ll make mincemeat outta that mouse!”
“Savoir-faire is evreewhere!”
StarForce They had one year to go to someplace and get back to save the earth.
If they don’t in just one year
mother earth will dissappear!
They ended with the count down of how many days left they had to save the earth.
The show I know, that nobody else knows is
SWAN’S CROSSINGS Sarah Michelle Geller, Mira Sorvino, one of those Sweet Valley twins.
Greatest show ever.
Vaguely I think I remember that. Did he used to say “Its possible, its possible” all of the time?
Want2Know, I remember Klondike Kat. Surprisingly my wife does too. She sometime will do the “Saviour Faire is everywheeeeere” thing.
I used to love The Mighty Heroes as a kid. “Go, Coo-Coo man, go!”
Zebra, I guess I’m geeky enough to remember most of the lines to the StarBlazers theme.
Fighting with the Gamilons
We won’t stop until we’ve won
Then we’ll return and when we arrive
We’ll keep peace alive with our Star Blazers!
Hehe…I still do that all the time too, in my very best fake French Canadian accent…
“Savoir Faire eez eeeeverywheeeere!”
I thought of a couple more that I don’t think have been mentioned yet: Wally Gator and Secret Squirrel!
The Uncle Gus show was broadcast from the studios of WMUR-TV Channel 9, Manchester NH.
I ought to know. I was on it once.
I also remember Marlo and the MMM, I was kinda sad it didn’t last long.
Very poor wiki
