Old shows and Cartoons that no one remembers but you

Peter Potamus

Does anyone remember a cartoon in the early seventies about a group of people traveling in an airship of some kind pursed by an evil character for some reason I don’t remember?

The Arabian Knights

“Size of an elephant”

I loved that one!

I don’t think many people remember the old MTV variety and game shows of the early 90s. (In fact the early 90s seems to be kind of a void in the cultural memory in general). Anybody remember the original Ben Stiller show? How 'bout “Kevin Seale, Sporting Fool?” Or “Remote Control?” Anyone?

I remember Exo-Squad! I only saw one episode and I remember to this day how good it was. I never knew what the show was called.

I was half-convinced that the Hugga Bunch were a long ago nightmare I had as a child, until I started describing this weird movie with dolls that go through the mirror to my roommate, and she knew exactly what I was talking about! So at least two people remember this strange phenomenon.

One show that I thought was great was Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea which aired on Nickolodeon in the 80’s. It was so atmospheric and mysterious.

Was it . . . Outerscope 1?

I have Nickelodeon’s Pinwheel to thank for that one. Now I have a Hattytown Tales themesong earworm!

melodyharmonius - guess who’s still alive? My mom has a cool story about him. She helped secure his participation in a Jaycees parade in Brattleboro VT back when I was maybe not even a babe in arms yet. As he rode by she shouted to get his attention and identified herself; he stopped the parade and reared up on his horse so she could get a shot or two of him in full action.

Always thought he was cool because of that.

I never really watched a full episode but I remember it. It also featured Jane Leeves (Daphne on “Frasier”) as a big-haired secretary.

You might find all the episodes on the web if you look around. I can’t remember the address, but it was a MySpace page. I downloaded them all over a year ago.

And, actually it looks like Season 1 is on http://www.hulu.com, in MUCH better quality.

GREAT show.

Wow, nothing ever went to waste over at Hanna.

  • “Jack”

Possibly. It doesn’t look quite the way I remember, but maybe. Do you have any further information about that image?

“This is Starcade- TV’s first video gameshow! Starring your favorite video games…including some being introduced to the public for the very first time!” With your host, Geoff Edwards (always ready with a corny joke). From JM Productions.

Rock ‘n’ Wrestling!

I had a crush on Junkyard Dog, of course.

Didja get that thing I sent ya?

I remember these very well–a lot of people were on Remote Control, like Colin Quinn and Adam Sandler (he was the ‘Trivia Delinquent’) before they were famous. Whatever happened to Ken Ober though?

And then there was the crappy movie review show “The Big Picture”. And the MTV Half Hour Comedy hour (I remember the ad for it with Gilbert Gottfried saying “If It’s half ours, who does the other half belong to?”)

And Liquid Television.

The Kids From C.A.P.E.R.

It was a live-action mid-season Saturday Morning replacement for something. Only about 12 episodes were made. It was “The Monkees” meet “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” with a dash of “The Archies” thrown in.

Four 20-something guys, each with a low-grade super-power (one was really strong, one was really smart, one talked to animals and one was “a hunk”) fought “Get Smart”-esque battles against a bad-guy group who’s name I no longer remember. And usually sang a fairly good bubblegum song during the course of the episode.

I should have been too old to watch it, but I used to love to watch “California Dreams”

Say, that reminds me, wasn’t there a short-lived spinoff called “the Girl from A.U.N.T.I.E.” starring the actress who played Jennifer on “Hart to Hart”?

Aside: This thread makes me slightly ashamed. It’s appalling how much truly bad, awful TV that I remember watching. I mean, geez, “Bigfoot & Wildboy”??? Oh what bad taste I had as a kid…

Loved that show! For a kiddie show, it was brilliant.

Actually, the smart guy (Doc) was also the hunk. The fourth member (P.T.) was their de facto leader and he had a supernaturally sensitive sniffer.

The strong guy was Bugs and the animal whisperer (whose ability was only shown in one episode) was Doomsday.
