(Old) So you want to be a star in the MMP

I truly hope you get better. I’ve been lucky as I can use narcotics to dull pain. But that makes my especially careful, and to use them as little as possible

I still pray in the evening before bed, for several continuing concerns, I will add you and hope you get to feeling better. Hurting makes time pass slowly.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your empathy and the prayers. You’ll be in my prayers of gratitude.

We didn’t have lunch, so we just finished a very early supper - ham, cabbage-n-onions, boiled spud lumps, and strawberries. Much yum!

Chillage shall ensue, but I do need to empty the dishwasher. Maybe in the morning…

I am so sorry this is happening to you. I went through a bad stretch of unrelieved joint pain about 5 years ago-and I mean that literally-I went through it. It seemed like ending pain wasn’t possible, surviving it became the goal. Seems like coming out the other side and still alive is the real success. Hang in there, come here and kvetch about it as many times a day (and night) as you need to to focus the pain outwards rather than keeping it inside where it is corrosive and malignant, eating at your spirit. Being alone with pain gives it more power-talk about it, call it out to strip pain of as much power as you can.

I used a walker, can’t remember if you’ve tried that or a cane to offload the offending knee. As you say, ice was my friend. I had many of the same issues as you with meds, although at that point I could tolerate Rx doses of naproxen (which may have something to do with why now, years later, I have a hiatal hernia). It’s not like then anyone would prescribe opioids for pain at that moment in American life, short of you gnawing off your dominant arm to a bloody stump in front of three board certified surgeons. I hear you, girl.

Waiting for the MRI will be beastly. Hopefully it will lead to diagnosis that is treatable. Mine did, but only after six months of hell. Have you tried TENS-transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation? That helped me-I got it twice a week at a PT office but here are home versions. PT in general helped, can you consult with a PT to see what they may be able to do to relieve pain? Any doc you’ve seen should be able to refer you to PT for pain relief even before a definitive diagnosis is reached. PTs are amazing in what they can do and many of then have doctoral level educations. Doctors don’t know everything or everything about every tool or method. We need PTs, pharmacists, nurses, etc for that.

So, kvetch, ice, walker or cane, kvetch, ice, pain relief PT consult, kvetch, ice, TENS through a PT or at home, ice, kvetch. As much morale support as we Mumpers can more into you.

Something I just thought of, does melatonin work for you, for sleeping? At least maybe it could be relaxing.

Howdy Y’all! I dealt with candle duty and then we got our fried chikin fix. After that it was back to da cave for nappage. We day drank out by the cee-mint pond but didn’t stay out too long. We decided we needed a break from the sun today. Gotta watch bein’ out there too much, so most of a day of not is a good thing. Now we are in the a/c and chillaxin’.

Much better day here today. Slept well, woke up normal, had the usual start to the day. Even made coffee w/o incident.

Had appointment for my quarterly well-baby visit w my doc. Spent some time talking about my cold/sinus thing that’s 99% over and the dental weirdness yesterday. She thinks it was mostly a blood pressure collapse, but not quite enough to faint from. I don’t have much blood pressure on a good day, so that’s certainly plausible. Otherwise I’m nominal and should survive to pay her again in 3 months to say the same thing. Here’s hoping.

Had a nice Indian lunch sitting outside at a place I’d not tried before: mulligatawny soup, lamb rogan josh made extra hot, plus basmati, and I splurged on some garlic naan. Usually rice or bread, but not both is barely tolerable for an Indian carb-splurge, but both is asking for a scary explosion of a blood glucose reading later.

FYI for the low-carb folks out there, IME basmati is much less glycemic than is ordinary 'Merkin or Latin style white rice. The sticky type, as in oriental cooking, is by far the worst glycemically. YMMV, but this has proven true over many trials for me. Within he three categories, brown is better than white, and brown basmati is best. The latter is easy to find at a good Indian grocery store but hard / impossible to find at Indian restaurants. Darn.

Anyhow, my post-meal BG reading was fine despite rice and naan. Go figure. Killed some groc shopping & came home to the happy sound of nearby thunder amid solid, but not nutso rain. Been chillaxin’ in mah’ chair ever since. Swampie is quite the inspiration.

Nellie dear lady, words fail. You are going through so much. Very few people deserve their fate, be it good or ill. You especially don’t deserve this crap. I’m sorry you’re being drug through this horror show and I hope you can be drug out the other side soon. If I had any practical advice I’d surely share, but sadly I don’t.

longhair that’s gonna be one hell of a quilt when you get done. As to workmanship, there’s a couple teeny spots someone could quibble about, but remember that rework may make it worse not better. I say “declare victory and move on”.

I read everything, but that was awhile ago. {{Hugs}}, congrats, and oh shits as appropriate to all!

Maybe Darci and the neighbor dog eloped doggio. :stuck_out_tongue: I hope that both are found soon.

You may have mentioned it before, Mooooooom, but what is your boat’s name?

While all of the blocks are nice, I really like the colors on the center block hippy.

Feel better soonest nellie.

Much as I enjoy sitting on the patio and watching the air show with a beerverage r two, it totally effs up traffic in my part of town. I went to the grocery store before they began closing streets between the two somewhat parallel drags, but when I came home, I wound up going 7 miles out of my way (the store is only 5 miles from home to begin with) to get there. Oh, well, it could be worse. I could be dealing with Nashville’s CMA Fest traffic. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thank you for the sympathetic, supportive remarks. What kind people you are!

Boo, an extra hug and thanks for the great advice. I ordered a TENS unit from da Jungle, and should get it tomorrow. I tried a trekking pole, which I see as a cane without the hook. It didn’t help. A walker might be helpful inside the apartment. There are a lot of uneven pavers in the sidewalks around here, plus I don’t think I could haul the babushka cart while using one. I have high hopes for the TNS unit, though!

I forgot to say I had a dream last night that we all got together at a restaurant somewhere. Everyone was so nice, and we all laughed a lot. There was a baby there. Nobody claimed it, but it had a UPS sticker on its little onesie. [Peers suspiciously at doggio.]

You are so sweet. I think I must have been Mussolini in another life.
Question: So the doc thinks the anesthetic rinse brought down your already-low BP, or just that the faintness happened to coincide with the rinse?

Hippie, that’s beautiful work! I can’t see any flaws, so they must be tiny.

Dinner has been dined. Mrs. L.A. had a PBJ (onna hot dog bun, since she’s outta bread) for a snack. She’s nibbling on her Caprese salad. She got the rest of the local mozzarella, and most of the balsamic vinegar reduction. I had Trader Joe’s mozz, and had the reduction on about half and un-reduced balsamic vinegar on the other half. I also had some provolone and Kalamata olives after.

Sandpiper. FCD designed a logo and I’ll post pics when he makes the panel.

Watching indictment coverage… all the head shaking is hurting my neck. I think it’s time to go read in bed.

Or Vegas for ComDex, Austin for SXSW, or Ft. Lauderdale for the International boat show or Miami for the Grand Prix or the US Open Tennis or …

As great as major public events are and how handy it is to live nearby one so you bootleg-watch/listen or just walk to the entrance if not, they’re a PITA when you live near the perimeter of the event and and well inside the disruption zone. My old business was involved in managing Super Bowls, World Series, and such. You wanna talk about F-ing up traffic for a couple weeks … Yowza!

Hope you got to see some cool flying and didn’t waste too much time crawling home.

Doc thinks it may have been pre-procedure nerves, a bit of systemic reaction to anesthetic, and I had undereaten the last day or two. Add all that up onto BP that naturally has little slack to the downside and we’re off to the races. OK.

That sounds wonderful.

We walked to a nearby place for light dinner after our respective large lunches. Her Ladyship enjoyed a Maryland crab soup that’s a light cream soup, more of a bisque. Yummy. I had a burrata with heirloom tomatoes (mini yellow and green ones, plus ordianry-looking red ones that actually had flavor!), arugula, and pine nuts with sundried tomato vinaigrette. It was almost as good as your meal.

My late first wife’s fancy chef uncle makes a reduction that is 50% port wine, 50% balsamic vinegar, then reduce ~50% until somewhat thickened. Tres yummy. I used to make it in bulk, buying a bottle of suitable balsamic vinegar, putting the whole thing in the saucepan, adding the matching port, reducing, then putting it all back in the original vinegar bottle. Keep in the fridge and use liberally.

You might try that some time. On salads or as a side sauce / dipping item for straight pork loin, lamb, etc. Not ideal for beef or chicken or saucy / spicy pork.

Today is my 34th and final anniversary with the airline industry. it has been a long and winding road, with far too much of it spent unproductively going nowhere. But it was far more interesting than a more straightforward “successful” career would have been. As another wise Doper often says, “When you don’t get what you want, what you get is experience.” Welp … by that standard I’ve got a hell of a lot of experience.

But here it is. It may have been colorful, but the end of my era approacheth.

Cheers to all!

Evening all. Soccer was refereed from 9am to 7pm, four games total over that time span, with ample rest and Gatorade. Only meal was post-ref at a fast food place called Cook Out, which is only fair-to-middling in my opinion. At least two more games tomorrow and we’ll see what else needs to be done and if there are games on Sunday. Actually don’t feel too bad, some of that exercise may be paying off.

Have read all but absorbed little, so hugs, cheers, tears, and yippees wherever needed.

Take care all.

Sounds delicious.

As it happens, there’s a bottle of port that’s been in the cupboard for a few years.

I have two partial bottles of balsamic vinegar. One (which I used on the other half of my salad) tastes kind of… smokey. The other is more vinegary. I wonder what they’d be like reduced together?

I read a lot but didn’t have time to comment much. I’ll catch up more later.

It’s Saturday morning here. SenBoy’s baseball game was rained out. We will be making the treck up to Otaru tomorrow for sailing practice for both kids. They have a race next week.

SenWife is still gone and won’t be back until Wednesday.

I teach this afternoon so I’ll have to prepare for that. Good kids today so it won’t be too difficult.

We have a bit of land to use for gardening outside our apartment building. There was a bit left over what only gets a little sunshine so we have to grow things that don’t need so much sun. It’s a little late in the season so we’ll look for things that grow quickly. We’re going to a gardening store later.

I’ve read everything, just not sure if I have the brain to reply tonight. But I did want to get my own drivel out there.

The overthinking support group was pretty useful, giving me more ideas and plans for getting out of my own head. It’s part of an LGBTQ+ positive self- care app with a really good community. I’m supposed to be part of a relationship support group tomorrow but that’s one I may miss to spend more time with my BFF.

Hubby had a doctor’s appointment today. It went really well, too the point that his doctor took him off of one of his blood pressure meds because his BP has been low. We also found out, after the appointment, that his A1C had him almost at normal range. So lots of good news.

BFF got here not long before Hubby got home and she brought me a vacuum. It feels so good not to have to sweep my carpets anymore! We chatted and straightened a bit, then the three of us went grocery shopping.

About 80% through the shopping experience, I suddenly got incredibly overheated. At first, I thought hanging on to the cart and walking through the frozen food section would help but it wasn’t long before my words got a little slurred, I was having trouble thinking and I almost passed out. Hubby bought me a drink and got me to Vancer so we could get me in it’s AC while BFF took care of the groceries. The drink and the AC didn’t really help and when we got home, Hubby got me inside to lie down first thing. He gave me a cold compress and I turned on my fan and took my temperature. It was low - 94.5 low. I fell asleep quite quickly and slept for 2 hours. When I woke up, I was feeling better, my temp was at 96.7 and I was hungry. I’m still not sure what all of this is about. I’ll be messaging my doctor in the morning, though I don’t expect to hear back until Monday.

After I ate a late dinner (everyone else had already eaten), we pulled out some board games and spent several happy hours enjoying beating and being beaten by each other. And we’ve got more of it to look forward to for the rest of the weekend.

And now, after my day of excitement and love, I am falling asleep. I’ll see you lovely people tomorrow. Have a wonderful night/morning/afternoon!

What! Are you getting graded and critiqued on this? Oh, gosh, that would stress me the fuck out and it would stop being fun.

It is lovely. I can see a few little tiny issues, but dang, you are doing this upside down so you can’t even see what it looks like until you are finished.

Have we talked about medical marihuana recently? I seem to remember you not having a good time when you last tried it but things have changed. *paging @purplehorseshoe

I would be more than happy to send you something…probably not legal, but whatever. I just smoke da weed, but lately dispensaries have so many more options, plus there is the CBD stuff that a whole lot of people swear by. I googled and it is all legal in your neck of the woods, I’m offering to mail it to you because getting to a dispensary while you are in this much pain would be more pain than it might be worth.

I had a little bit of skin cut off cause of skin cancer worries 35 years ago. I am a weenie. I instantly became sun intolerant and haven’t owned shorts or short sleeved shirts since then. Covering your skin with loose clothing is actually cooler in the desert than letting the sun beat down on bare skin, so that’s what I tell people when they ask why I’m in long pants when it’s 115 in the shade.

Gardening is good for my soul, I hope it is for you as well. I will offer zero advice because you are in a totally different climate than me, but I will offer much encouragement!

After I got over wanting to be an astronaut, I wanted to grow up to be an Earth Goddess. I’m still working on that one.

Yesterday was Tai-chi and I gave NF the produce then. I got a text from her today saying how surprised she was by the quality (like I’d give her bad stuff). I get that reaction a lot, folks are understandably hesitant about accepting food bank leftovers, LOL!

Today we went to New River, which meant going down the mountain by the big construction project. Usually the speed limit picks up to 75 at the base of the mountain, but this time hubs auto-piloted while I noticed that they had finally lowered the speed limit and added the double fine warning. I posted about it on Nextdoor cause when one has driven the same road since forever, it’s easy to miss traffic control changes.

My budista was grabbing stuff to fill my order when the young man working the counter next to her saw me and told her that I was the one with the cat, so she asked for GG pics and his customer leaned over to look as well. That’s my new claim to fame, I have a big handsome cat, LOL!

We wanted to get breakfast at a place we hadn’t been to for over 10 years…we used to ride motorcycles there for breakfast and go out for a long ride. They had tables and menus but they were a bar now with breakfast burritos in the morning and $15 hamburgers later.

We went to our usual place and got fed.

Traffic had already started balling up on the way home, I have to remember to do the dispensary thing on not Fridays. Usually we go when our housekeeper kicks us out, but she’s off trying to win a hundred grand so I didn’t get that reminder. Go Pam, win it all!!!

There had been announcements about a magic show at the library and I always like watching stage magic so I planned to make hubs go with me, but he really didn’t want to go and watch some young kid fumble cards, so I left him home. The young man (16-19) did NOT fumble his cards and did the “Queen of Hearts” perfectly. That kid’s gonna make a fine pickpocket some day, good hands!

Hubs and I of course haven’t discussed the orange one and his issues, but he did share that environmentalists set the fires in Canada.

He’s also going to have motion activated security cameras and lights installed because we live in such a crime ridden neighborhood.

We do not live in a bad neighborhood. We have never had a break-in or heard of neighbors having a break-in. I routinely leave my wallet in my unlocked car. It saddens me that he is so afraid.

So on tonight’s Zoom call with my hockey Peeps, Spot decided his new favorite toy was my right ear. Which is still better than the usual “For Show and Tell for the 100 straight week, I present my butthole.” :cat:
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s my Firday!

Looks good!

{{{{nellie}}}}

A 2 for 1 special would be nice.

< whistles while removing infant from Boxcrusher 9000 >

NextDoor will do that to you(along with the rants about any sort of traffic slowdown project, because God forbid we shouldn’t be able to go 60 though a residential street)

Yikes! I hope that you have get some relief soon.

Pilot, I normally have good BP, but about 18 months ago, I was giving a combination of meds that lowered it, and the doctor put me on a new one without making sure I knew to stop the old one. That dropped my PB down far enough I collapsed on the road getting out of my car. An ambulance to ER then 20 zillion tests on my heart before they figured out that it was the meds.

Metal mouse I’ve missed it from before, but what age of players do you referee? How is that?

Real Fish, oh!!! that sounds horrible! I hope you are back to normal soon.

I don’t know why I woke at 3 and couldn’t fall back to sleep, but I am not happy about it. Dammit.

I’ll be doing some boat work from home. After I tend to some Happy Homemaker chores, including some serious rollsucking, I’ll run to the boat and get all the cushions from the main salon. I don’t know who thought white upholstery was a good choice in a boat, but I’d like to whack whoever upside the head.

However, I will use my carpet/upholstery steamer to clean them the best I can, and I’m going to do that at home where I can get hot water. After that’s done, I’ll have a go at painting the name board. FCD was futzing with it yesterday and he just made a gawd-awful mess of it. He does great with air brushing, but he lacks the patience to deal with a paintbrush (or roller) to do a good job. We’ll see how my arthritic fingers do.

FCD plans to clean the teak decks. Yet another reason for me to do my boat work at home. We’d be in each other’s way what with the hose and having to keep all the doors and windows closed. Once he’s done, we can work together again at the next item on the list. If I can find the list…

Daughter texted me yesterday asking if I wanted to go with her and the kids to the pool. Nope - too much work to do. Plus I’m guessing the water is still chilly. So no thanks.

For the moment, tho, it’s my morning quiet time. And caffeination time.

Happy Saturday!!
