(Old) Spot the Lunatic - A Cat MMP

I think you missed my point. I was wondering what the hell they were doing on the dance floor in the first place. These are people in their 80s with poor balance and coordination.

We have snow. Weather advisory is 10 to 20 cm. Looks like wet stuff, so roads will be slippery. I expect people who can work from home will be taking a snow day. :snowflake: :snowflake: :snowflake:

I’m one of those mean, unreasonable, horrid people who will not permit critters to sleep with me (FCD isn’t a critter, so he’s allowed.) When Taz was still alive, we’d make sure he wasn’t in the bedroom and we’d shut the door to keep him out. Higgs slept in her crate, except when we visited the inlaws in Ocala - then she did sleep with us, which means she plastered herself against me. Nope, no dogs or cats in our bed.

That apparently ended last night. After almost 48 hours of virtually continuous sleep, she woke us at 4AM when she went to the bathroom. Her bedroom lights were on and her closet door was open - she was getting ready to get dressed. We told her the time, and she got back into bed and went back to sleep. It took a bit, but we managed to get a few more hours, too.

She just now got up again, weighed herself in the bathroom, came in to the living room, said she had to go to the bathroom, and went back. I fetched her robe and settled her in her recliner for meds and toast. She was offering bits of toast to some imaginary critter. And her hearing has gotten really bad. The decline continues.

Got another this morning, supposedly from our internet provider, but hovering over the sender revealed a rather freaky address. And since it was the 3rd or 4th email I’d gotten asking me to click a link to upgrade my email, I knew it was another one of them… I was going to forward it to my provider, but they don’t give out an email address - the cowards!!

But didn’t he say he has the concept of a plan? Won’t that make us all great again? [end political snark]
BTW, I love the pics of your kittehs together!

That mental image cracks me up!!

FCD is (was?) a die-hard Cowboys fan. I think he’s watched part of maybe 2 games this year. It also kills him that Washington is doing not-horribly, because he’s always hated Washington. I don’t care about any of it.

I miss out on all that since I don’t have Part B. But I do have excellent insurance from when I was working, so I get a semi-annual once-over that deals with everything (including the suicide questions) and except for the copay, everything is covered. Of course, that insurance is costing close to $900/month for the two of us, but it also includes vision and dental, and after all the surgeries FCD has had covered, I can’t complain too awful much. Well, apart from the whole business of having to have insurance in the first place because of the system. Nope, not gonna go there either.

Areas to the west of us are threatened with a few flakes later this week, but we’re just getting rain (YAY!!!)

That happens in DC, and I think it’s largely due to all the part-time residents related to the politicians. Or stupidity - it could go either way. Thankfully our county is really good at staging plows in strategic areas when snow is forecast and we live right off a major artery. I understand at the southern tip it’s not as good, but then it’s pretty sparsely populated down there. Anyway, our long-range forecast is for less snow than average, so yay for that, I guess.

I plan to run to Aldi today - gotta make sure I have all the foods I need so I can avoid next week’s crowds. Plus I’m running low on cat litter and kitteh treats. FCD wants a box of puppeh treats for Trevor. So I have that to look forward to. And I have to finish the edging on the latest blanket and decide what the next one will be. So, as you can see, a rough day ahead.

Happy Tuesday!!

Foggy, foggy day
Paint your pallette brown and gray
Look out on a winter’s day
With temps that chill you to your very soul
Leaves are changing hue
Red and orange fall like snow
Waiting for the wind to blow
Them on their merry way. - Apologies to Don McLean

Sadie knows something is up. When she followed me out for her breakfast, I shut the bedroom door to keep her from going under the bed, in anticipation of the vet visit later. She’s very unhappy with this change in routine and wandered around yowling about it for awhile. Now she’s perched on the arm of my chair, which is a change. Getting her into her carrier should be a fun endeavor.

Hoping the plumber will get here today. The kitchen sink is not draining well, and the dishwasher is full. I don’t want to run it, as it connects to the same drain as the sink. The maintenance guy had no luck clearing the line, so had to call in a contractor. At least I’m not paying for it.

Maybe Mumpers up north will, but folks like swampy and I understand it perfectly. But it’s 63F now and heading to 68F later here in N. Ali-bama, so no concerns about snow here (it is raining off-and-on and will for most of the day).

cookie, hope the plumber can make it an easy fix, I need to run the dishwasher this afternoon after my late morning meal (have had an apple to tide me over). Good luck with Sadie. And lovely adaptation of a lovely song.

On wellness checks, the Medical Care place I go to tends to give me a form about 10-12 pages long with those type of questions, which I fill out once a year before my usual physical.

Bob-B, nice photo and sounds like you took precautions, and that’s all I’m going to say about it. If Nettie want too, well…

boo fae, if “Binfluencer” is not a thing, it damn well should be.

Sticky Buns, either a well-done editing on the photo or you have some big-headed people living there… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Taters, the term ‘bomb cyclone’ always worries me, that is two worlds that do not belong together, IMHO. Hope your weather stays calm.

And it’s closing in on 9am so need to dress appropriately and make the Braunschweiger Run now that morning traffic should have cleared out. Have a good 2sDay, all.

My apologies, I didn’t get that sentiment from your posting at all, and I didn’t mean it to come out that way

What a fabulous picture! The ramp looks pretty cool too

Over here, it’s definitely stupidity. I went out at lunchtime, the roads were wet and in places there was quite a bit of slush but nothing to stop people driving at a normal and sensible speed. Fortunately as it was the middle of the day on a weekday, there wasn’t much traffic around so all in all, a much better shopping trip experience than the evening run.

jtc, love the pic of gg and jolene.

as the katmai bear cams are done for the year, i have moved on to churchill polar bears. still in my no news programmes mode. watching polar bears wander about and cuddle up to sleep is very peaceful. one was having a great time yest. napping and rolling about in the snow. the bay is taking longer to freeze so the bears are around longer.

lager at his highest weight did look rather polar bear like. now he is a skinny bear.

in bin news, last night i cleared the office fridge and took the icky things home to the compost bin. this morning i put a bag in the recycle bin. wild times.

sticks and scones, great bin pic!

We found that caging Ziva (who HATES to be picked up) worked best when we picked her up by the scruff of her neck. She’d curl up her back legs and with the carrier set open end up, we could put her in and close the door before she could scramble out.

Back from Aldi - while I was in the self-checkout, a woman came in who’d never shopped there before, and one of the employees went out with her to show her how the quarter-for-a-cart works. I decided to be nice and get extra punkin pie fixin’s because FCD asked for some yesterday. There are now 2 pies in the oven and I’ll be baking more next week. The man lurves his punkin pies!

MIL is still asleep in her chair. Her aide, Jessica, called this morning to see how she’s doing. I’m pretty sure it won’t be long now - both she and the nurse gave off that vibe. I’ve been bracing for that day for so long, I just don’t know what to think.

One of my sisters sent me an email - my mom is finally realizing that at 90, she can no longer do what she did at 60. Her doctors have tweaked her meds and she seems to be doing OK. I should visit her, but honestly I don’t think I’m up to the 2+ hour drive there, then 2+ hours back again - at least not alone. We certainly can’t leave MIL alone and she couldn’t handle the trip either. Maybe I can get them to meet me halfway for lunch one day. We did that about 5 years ago…

Assuming MIL doesn’t last much longer, we’ll probably go to spend Christmas with my family. But I do think I should see my mom some time soon. It ain’t easy…

Our oil tank has been filled. 151.8 gallons and something over $500. Yoiks!!

Just north of $3/gallon doesn’t seem that bad, especially if it includes delivery. I paid $3/gallon for gas yesterday and pumped it myself.

We’re experienced with handling cats, just not THIS cat. She is actively searching for a hiding place as I type this. I blocked entry under the couch and chairs as best as I can, but you know how cats are.

Delivery is free for over 150 gallons, so we just squeaked by. tho it’s just $15 for between 100 and 150 gallons, so not terrible. And that fill should last us at least 2 years, since our primary heat is the pellet stove. Tho the 3 tons of pellets (maybe we’ll just burn 2 anna half) came to around $800. If we heated exclusively with oil, even keeping the thermostat at 68 or so, we’d still need a second fill unless it’s an extremely mild winter. Or we wear lots of layer inside.

And that’s why we have so many afghans!!

My winter haiku:

Sun is up but I
Cannot see to the street’s end.
The snow falls softly.

Well, the vet visit went off better than expected. She didn’t like it, but was cooperative with the doc. She definitely needs extractions, probably most of her teeth at this point. As the vet pointed out, she doesn’t need teeth, as she doesn’t have to hunt for food, and she is likely in constant pain from the issue. So we made an appointment for January for what will likely be between $1-2K.

I like your haiku
It falls softly on my ear
Like peanut butter

 :grinning: :slightly_smiling_face:

Big black dog goes out.
Winter storm rages outside.
White dog comes back in.

Afternoon all. The Braunschwieger Run is complete, all set until after Xmas and got me out of the house for a couple hours. After doing dishes Tetris, the dishwasher is doing it’s thing. Been rainy all morning, but never too heavy, just ‘a good soaking rain’ as my Mom used to call it. Will do my gym stuff, might ease up a bit, woke up a little sore this morning.

Oh, we’re Haiku’ing now?

Rain falls pitter-pat
On a warm Alabama
What is this snow thing?

Cookie, glad the vet visit went well, even with the forthcoming bill. We’ll wait and see how long it takes Sadie to recuperate from your base betrayal…

Onward!

All reservations have been cancelled. Budget is charging me a $50 cancellation fee. United is crediting me the money towards another flight. I find that annoying, but I have learned my lesson that any future trips will Include a no fee cancellation.

Cookie I’m sure Sadie will forgive you and I hope she does OK between now and her dental extractions. Did the vet give you anything to give her for pain?

Sadie is a good girl (skritches) and you and MrsBaker are very good humans for taking such loving, good care of her.

Love it, thank you!

Right now my Nebraska sky is that grimmest of flat featureless foreboding of bad things to come gray. At least it isn’t raining. Yet.

I’ve read through all y’all, but I gotta head out to do the whole “work” thing for awhile.

My gawd I slept so much the last coupla days!

Helluva coincidence!
