(Old) Tell A Stoopid Joke MMP!

Good Morning, MMPers! No snoozing for this gal this morning! Chloé and I walked and she was snubbed by two buns. Look buns, all she wants is to be your best friend. That’s all. The sun is coming up later, so I was able to get today’s photo from the top of the hill.

Warning: stream of conscience gender shit ahead:
I’ve had this hair for about a week now, and I’m still over the moon for it! I am learning to style it so it’s out of my face. It’s funny, even when I had long hair as a guy, I didn’t do much with it. I would drag a brush though it and maybe tie it back. Then I cut it short, and didn’t do a damned thing with if for twenty-five years, so hair in the face wasn’t a problem. Now it is and I don’t mind a bit. Okay - I do mind when I look down, and all I see is hair. That’s annoying, Also, I decided to swap out my earring for one I picked up at Pride last month. I’ll see if anyone notices at yoga tonight.

I’m guessing it’s along the lines of:

Q: How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Purple!

Otherwise, I’m lost.

Good! I was worried about your wife with her myriad health issues.

Re the Canadian smoke. A fraternity brother is Boston sent me a sepia toned photo this morning It was the street in front of his house, and he hadn’t color corrected it.

Stay safe y’all.

Got my 1.4 in. I saw two bunnies. We had a lounge chair on the deck for years. Rarely used it. Anyway, we put it out front for anyone who wanted it years ago. The first thing I was on my walk was the same chair (and two other loungers) on the corner, free for the taking. That thing’s been around. Incidentally, my wife picked up a couple of metal-framed patio chairs many years ago, and eventually they made it out to the street. I recently saw them in a neighbour’s yarden. My late neighbour was a bit of a scavenger, and used everything in her front-yard garden. Finally, someone on the next street over has a Shark carpet cleaner sitting out, free for the taking.

ETA: Had Korean BBQ-flavour SPAM® and an over-easy farm egg for breakfast. I’m frying up a couple more slices for a SPAM® sandwich for lunch.

We’ve always had colorful walls, tho at the moment, they’re rather boring - blue in the bedrooms and the main bath (there’s wallpaper in the hall bath) and 2 shades of gray in the rest of the house. Plus 2 different shades of gray in the basement. However, since we’ve been here, we’ve had a medium burnt orange in the living room, then a putty color in there, 2 shades of green in the dining and kitchen, the same 2 greens in this unnamed room (den? computer room? small great room?) Plus at one point, the kitchen was a shade of burgundy,

I don’t like yellow walls, and we’ve never had any shades of purple. I’d like to redo our bedroom in green again, but nothing will happen in there till after Ziva is gone. The carpet needs to be replaced in all 3 bedrooms since they were last carpeted in 2008, but until our kitteh goes to her reward, I’m not going to tempt fate and her bladder.

FCD has gone to the marina to talk to the dockmaster about moving our slip. Along with its proximity to trees that results in too many leaves on the deck, it’s in a tight area and getting out can be a real challenge. So we shall see. He’s also taken the trash and recycling, and on the way home, he’ll stop at Lowe’s for a new recycle can. The old one literally split top to bottom. We have no idea how old it was - the previous owners left it and we’ve been here 22 years. So it had a good run.

He left before helping me move the dink - guess I’ll go futz in the basement. But I was productive. Yesterday he replaced our shower head, and I know he didn’t read the directions, because the hand-held unit leaked where the hose attached to the sprayer. I found a bag with washers - guess what wasn’t installed?? Well, it is now, and no leak. Go me!

OK, down the stairs I go.

Happy Thorsday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll take trash to the dumpster, then run to FoodTown to pick up some fruit and a few other things. After, it shall be RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I decided it was time to pop the balloons from Roxy’s b-day party (it was in April) but I spared the 3 mylar ones in case Daughter wants to take them. (She wants me to deflate them and fold them.) I also did a general tidy and a decent rollsuck. It was more than a quick traffic area, less than moving the big furniture (futon, love seat, recliner, oak table.)

I further decided that it’s too hot and humid to be working outside. I went out to empty the rollsuck canister and it hit me… hard! A great big nope.

A follow-up to the saga. This morning I went down to talk to a staffer who is responsive (the facilities manager just agrees with whatever you say so you’ll go away) about the HVAC issue. The desk person apparently did as I asked and called people in to fix the problem, so good on her. It turned out to be a major mess, with a cooling tower kaput and a pump spewing water everywhere. The maintenance guy was here until 0200 getting the system working again with band-aids. I thanked him this morning. Also recommended to the staffer that they have a refresher session with all the night staff to train them on health and welfare issue response. This night clerk did the right thing, but they’re not all Rhodes scholars down there, and at least a couple likely think that older folks don’t have anything meaningful to say. I have a bit of a gift of gab and can be fairly intimidating if I wish to be, but that’s a last resort. I’d rather they just follow the protocalls.

Weren’t you a chief? Senior chief? 'Cause that kinda comes with the khakis, right?

Otis, bless is heart, chewed up the plug to an old TV that we were going to set up in the guest room for when the kids (or anyone else) spend the night. I was looking at it today to see if it could be replaced and saw the manufacture date - March 2011. So not a smart TV and probably not compatible with a smart stick. So it’s going to be recycled and I’ll get a new TV. It’s probably not too much more expensive than a Roku anyway.

FCD is on his way back. Guess I should look busy.

went out for allergy shots. whew! the humidity went crazy out there. with the smoke it is like walking around with cataracts.

when i was on the way back to the building, i turned a corner and thought, “uff da, the smoke is getting worse”. nope, the smoke wasn’t getting worse. there was an actual dumpster fire. 2 bike police and a walking patrol man got to the dumpster just when i did. we all marveled at the actual dumpster fire.

this is the 2nd one i’ve seen in real life. this one was just smoldering with smoke. no visible flames. fire department arrived.

That “patio furniture” joke above once got me in dutch with my employer’s HR many years ago. I got called on the carpet and told to stop telling ethnic jokes in the workplace. I was a bit surprised; I thought of it as a kind of pun and not ethnic. But I promised not to tell it anymore.

I was just at Walmart looking to buy some chicken breasts. They had several packages of Foster Farm chicken, and the expiration date was still a week away, but all the packages were dripping with juice that smelled of spoiled chicken. I don’t know what was up with that, but I put my package back and then my hands smelled like spoiled chicken until I could get out to the car and use some disinfectant handiwipes. I also wanted to buy some eyedrops, but all the eye stuff was behind locked glass cabinets and I could not track down anyone to unlock a cabinet.

So I went to Safeway and found clean chicken packages and unlocked-down eyedrops and bought them there.

Woke up to 55Ferrets, overcast and a predicted high of 76F. Nothing to complain about there. Wish I could share it around with the rest of you, and eliminate the nasty smoke, too.

True, dat. Also one of the hardest colors to get right. It should surprise no one that I have used it liberally in my home. There is one really yellow wall we had to paint three times to get how we wanted it. The first two tries screamed “Waffle House!” Not what we were going for. The exterior of my house is also yellow, although a much gentler, almost-butter shade. I love that color.

Have a safe and memorable time, BooFae! Sounds like the weather is going to favor you for awhile! I do hope so.

Oh, my, you didn’t sound rude at all, and I apologize if you thought that’s what I was implying! Yours is very much the preference of many people. My closest friend here, her entire house is white. Countertops white, walls white, carpet white. She likes pops of color in her rooms, but the backdrop is white. I’m the opposite, I like color everywhere. It’s not to everyone’s taste and I completely get that! I was just attempting to make a funny, and I sure didn’t mean to intimate that your choices are somehow wrong. And trust me; you’ll hate what I’ve done with my place. That’s ok. It’s nice we can all have what we want!

Sounds like you had a lovely time on your trip – that’s wonderful! Seaside is always pleasant.

Another nice sunrise photo, Mollie! I hope you have fun figuring out how to style your new hair!

cookie, good for you for raising hell as only you can. You likely saved a life or two by taking the initiative. I, too, was worried for your wife and the excessive heat in the building. They have got to fix that.

flyboy, yayy for bun sightings! I’ve seen my backyard bun several times recently and omitted to mention it. She’s growing, too. Good onya for keeping up with the walking!

Ollie is better today. Much more his usual bouncy self this morning. I will take him for a good romp later and then give him another yeast bath as we crawl our way toward the vet visit next Tuesday.

I think I will bake more Ciabatta bread while we’re enjoying a cool day. It’s nice to have around for breakfast toast or a quick sandwich. Keeps well in the freezer.

All the windows are currently open and the house is sitting at a delightful 66F. Whatever else I decide to do with this day, it will be spent comfortably, at least.

Breakfast will be ham and eggs, I think.

More later.

As for paint colors, I love a colorful home, but I still chose neutrals to paint the walls. For color, I rely on bright prints, colorful furniture, vivid ornaments, and splashy bedspreads. Then, someday in the future when I get tired of the colors I’ve chosen, I can switch them out for a new palette for a lot less work than repainting the home.

If it has an HDMI, a Fire Stick would work. Does on my 2011 Vizio.

When FCD was in college, he rented a room from a couple who had just bought a house. His room had 2 walls of Pepto pink and 2 of golden arches yellow. I think it took us 4 coats to cover it with a light blueish-gray.

Too late - I’ve ordered a new one. And, frankly, I don’t know if this one even works any more. It’s been in a closet for years. So we’re getting a new Samsung and I may swap it with the (ick) FireTV in the bedroom. I hate FireTV, but the kids don’t care. It’ll get here tomorrow, so I’ll decide then.

I have acquired the ‘maters for my mom and sister. They had flats for $5, but they were cookin’ or cannin’ ‘maters, not slicin’ 'maters. I was surprised that there was no corn, so I need to rethink supper.

Just arranged to get my car into the shop for an oil change on Moanday - I’m within spitting distance of 225K miles, and I get service every 5K, so it’s due. Here’s hoping they don’t find anything hinky. But if they do, I know it’s legit. I’ve been going there for over 20 years and I don’t know how many vehicles, and they’ve always treated me right.

Must rethink supper, then assume chillage posture, I guess.

Yeah, I can do the “You’re too stupid to live” stare or the “Did your mother have any children who lived?” glare.

That’s what I want for the hall. I don’t like loud colors, I like soft and gentle better. I have a favorite color pallet which is pretty obvious from the needlework pics I share, so the bedspread I bought 15 years ago will match the new paint - but will look old and shabby so will need to be replaced anyhow.

Our last place had 11 colors, including four different sands. It was very nice, but too many choices for me.

This place is mostly dark cream, tan and green. I hadn’t realized how dark it was until I started doing test samples.

Primer first seems to be the plan for this house, I tried a couple of test patches without primer and didn’t like the results even after two coats. I put primer on a different wall and then tried two colors again and I’m in love with one of them. I’d like to use it in the living room as well, but Hubs lives here and I can’t make it too girly. Actually I could and he wouldn’t say a word as long as he has his recliner, remotes and a table fer his drink.

Today the weather service advised “stay inside!” again, so of course Hubs had to ride his new motorcycle somewhere. Madison I think. I wiped myself out playing with paint yesterday so will spend most of today vegging. Its only four weeks, I’m really having serious second thoughts about this. Such aPITA.

I’m learning. It’s not in my face all the time now.

Afternoon.

Back late from irk- there was an event on, which is why I went in. It featured lots of free food, so I’m slightly stuffed.

I’d settled on getting 2-year-old niece some fairy wings, which I ordered a couple of days ago. They arrived today and… they’ve sent 6 pairs. I think I’m gonna need some more nieces.

I have a blue bedroom and one dark green wall in the living room (the one with the brass). I spent too much time in rental places where I wasn’t allowed to repaint, and I wanted colour, dammit. I think I’m going for a pale blue-purple for the spare room- in fact I already have the paint- but it’ll be a while before I get around to doing anything much with that. It needs wallpaper removing and the floor redoing, so it’s a big job. Aside from anything else, the ratties live in there and I don’t really have anywhere else for 'em to go, as the cage is really big. They don’t complain about the decor at least.

And just like that, it’s back.

I was slammed, shorthanded, and it was an oven in the building. And the oven-ing continued with the damages and re-wraps, including 2 boxes of these mostrosities. After I had reached an internal temperature of 165F finished up, I did my Senior Day shopping. They were sold out of the Teeter brand bran flakes. I bought frosted mini wheats instead, but damn, the old old people need to leave some, I need fiber, too.
I’ve always rented, so it’s always bee off white walls. It does make the sports stuff on the walls stnd out more.

When you clean a vacuum cleaner, you become a vacuum cleaner.

I’m rented from slumlords that were better at fixing things.

Combustion needs a nap sometimes, too.

“that’s what she said”?

This is a bad thing?

Idea:

One of the patrons who used to frequent the bar where I once worked was a house painter. The three months it took to paint a local Queen Anne Victorian home seven shades of yellow were three months where he stayed for more than one drink.

Yay and skritches!

A Roku stick will work anywhere a Fire Stick will. I’ve been using Roku sticks for at least 15 years, so it may not be too old. It shouldn’t be too hard to replace the plug. ETA: I see you’ve resolved the problem.

Groceries have been picked up and put away, lunch et and I’m fixing to start a load of laundry before I take Nelson out. Such excitement!
