Old Threads and some follow-ups!

So, my OP has two points:

  1. To see if anyone else had some ‘ancient’ SDMB threads pop up in their notifications feed, and…
  2. To follow-up on the specific one that has popped up for reasons unknown I blame DiscoBot.

For whatever reason, “No, you are not a doctor!” introduced itself in my notifications feed–the last post being in October 2008!

Natch, I perused the thread, coming across some of the posts talking about how websites ask for your honorific prefix. On one website in particular, I was allowed to type in my own honorific, so I chose “The Illustrious.” I now get routine mail from PBS addressed to “The Illustrious Tripler” and I think it’s hilarious. It even got a snerk from the customer service rep when I called in to update my email.

This reminds me, that I’ve been getting a lot of junk mail to “renew my 2017 Ford’s* Service Warranty,” which seems to be proliferating like rabbits. I suspect companies are selling my contact information, so if I can sign up with one website with ‘The Jabroni’, I might have some intel on how these things proliferate.

* Note: I no longer have the '17. I got rear-ended last August, which bent the frame and was written off as a total loss. Got me a much nicer, used '15 F-150

So, has anyone else seen random ‘ancient’ (> 5 yrs old) threads pop up, and want to add a follow-up post script?

Can you smell what the Tripler is cookin’?

I’m sure as hell not going to challenge @Tripler to a cook-off.

They typically pop up when bumped by a spammer. The mods come in and cornfield the offending post, but the thread change date has already been reset so it shows up in everyone’s feed.

Have no fear @running_coach. I haven’t been around anything explosive since COVID began. Now, my propane grill, however, has gotten full extensive use thrice weekly.

Makes sense. I wonder why spammers go so far back into Dope History to post to.

I made me some elk the other day. You should challenge me.

They search keywords. I doubt many of these spammers even speak English which is why there are occasional hilarious mismatches.
A thread on the cannibalized guy in Germany was bumped by a spammer hawking skinning knives.

::snerk::! I guess he missed the point. . .

::rimshot::

Tripler
. . . again, I’m here all week. Try my veal.
