Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 with rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon and evenin’. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have Verger duty. It is Pentecost Sunday, so there will be incense. Afterwords I think we shall get stoner food to bring to da cave and eat. Nappage, day drinkin’ and sloth will take up the rest of the day.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Happy Sunday Y’all! Happy Pentecost to those who celebrate.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean in the morning, and sloth in the afternoon. It’s sheet changing day, so Spot shall do his feline duty to intervene.
Spot likes the idea of staying in bed, apart from forays to watch his shows, and to stuff dry, flavorless bits in his piehole.
Looks like we got a few raindrops overnight. T-boomers promised on and off today, sun tomorrow, more t-boomers on Tuesday. No big plans today, tho I’d like to run to Aldi for a bag of the tortillas I like. And maybe I’ll get back to my sewing machine.
Today’s Calvin and Hobbes is so true to me, but I can’t find a specific link, just the one to GoComics without a date. Which means it’ll link to something different tomorrow. Anyway, if you look today…
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, bills paid and fixing to KP. After, I’ll shower and shevel to go to the grocery. Other than sweeping the kitchen and spending an hour packing, it will be a quiet day.
Morning all. This is looking like the Great Monthly Laundry Day. Load #2 (of many) is in the wash while Load #1 is in the dryer. Many more will follow, so that pretty much does it for me today. Pity, after the rain yesterday it looks like a nice day (77F heading to 87F) but except for Dining out at Olive Garden, nothing much but washing stuff, drying stuff, and hanging/folding/putting away stuff for the day. Still, might catch up on my reading and do a few household chores…maybe…
Been ‘officially’ on the SDMB since 2004, but didn’t really start posting here until 2014-15 or so, IIRC. And yeah, most of my friends are on-line and a good percentage of them are right here.
JtC, still haven’t looked at my fans, they require a ladder to get to and I haven’t been that ambitious yet.Maybe later today. Most of my walking is on the treadmill or on the soccer field, never really got into just walking as something to do. Good news on Harry’s recuperation (and Hubs and neighbor collaboration to keep Harry calm).
red, can almost guarantee that you’ll be a donator in he future.
boo fae, you can turn a simple day into an adventure; I fear that is beyond the reach of most of us, but I envy you that ability. Enjoy your slothage, you have earned it.
swampy, happy Vergering.
FCM, I believe you mean Sunday’s ‘dreamscape’, which is humorous and yet so true. I really miss Calvin and Hobbes on a daily basis (and since I am going to Olive Garden today, I will strive not to have a Noodle Incident…
So sounds like Load #2 is done, so need to get #3 started. Have a good Sunday all.
We ran to Aldi via the McD’s in Leonardtown. The car in front of us paid for FCD’s soda - nice surprise. Saved him a whopping $1.58!! I got my tortillas and we drove home in a slightly spitty bit of rain. From the looks of the weather channel’s radar, most of the rain will miss us to the north and south, the we might get some around mid-afternoon.
We’re less than 3 weeks from our departure so I need to be conscious of food purchases. I honestly doubt that Casey will eat much here and I don’t want to come home to a fridge full of science experiments. I will ask Daughter to do her shopping in my fridge while we’re gone. The freezer stuff will be fine. But I need to resist the urge to stock up.
One concern both of us have is the bed on the ship. We were on one cruise where the mattress was abominable - I woke every morning with an aching back. I’m sure they keep spare mattresses aboard, in case of pee or vomit or whatever. If it’s really bad, maybe I can ask for an exchange. We shall see. Meanwhile, we still haven’t been assigned a cabin.
Dishwasher is sloshing along. When it’s done, it’ll be close to my lunch time, after which I’ll head back to the basement, even tho I just want to sloth today.
I renewed mine a few months ago. So before the current governmental silliness had set in.
The process was painless: Go online, update your info, pay your fee, then wait for an email notifying you of any change in your application status. It took about 2 months (!) to get my renewal notice.
Punchline: Don’t wait until your year is almost up. Between you being outside the USA and the aforementioned silliness, it might be a multiple month process to get the renewal to go through.
Late wife used to roll up in those towels and call herself a burrito. Yeah, cozy. You do need beach towels, not bath sheets; the latter aren’t big enough.
Happy belated Birthday to shoe & Doperversary to Coppertone. And yes, cake for breakfast is just fine, in fact encouraged.
The big news here is that GF fell out of bed last night and hurt her left side too. We weren’t doing anything exciting; just slumbering away when she rolled off the edge of the bed and crashed to the floor. Big bruise on hip/butt and elbow, but no lasting damage. Between my still-bum left shoulder and her now ragged left elbow for a few days, we’re running out of comfortable cuddling postures.
Other than that (Mrs. Lincoln) we’re having a fine few days together.
It’s 60°F and sunny right now. Our expected high temperature is 92F and sunshine will be plentiful. That’s too dang warm for me, but I’ll survive…I guess.
There is a little button on the ceiling fan that switches direction, Metal Mouse. It’s generally located near the pull chain that regulates fan speed.
JtC, your bowl is lovely. I forgot to mention that yesterday. I’m glad Harry continues to recuperate, and, that your husband and gully neighbor have worked out a plan to keep said gully mowed.
I’ve been on the Dope and the MMP since around 2000, I think. I put my foot in my mouth by mistyping FCM’s name. Instead of calling her FairyChatMom, I called FairlyChattyMom or something like that. Thankfully, she was kind in her correction. And I can testify that she is kind in person, too, because I had the opportunity to meet her.
The lunch with my former co-worker was nice. We had a nice catch-up and a couple of drinks. I brought home food for my husband, too. I didn’t do anything after returning home, and in fact, went to bed early last night and slept in until 7:00 a.m. I woke several times during the night, but finally at 7:00, I rolled out of bed. I’m already regretting losing those early morning hours.
I’m not sure how productive I’ll be today. I will have to water the posies, of course. But, I don’t foresee myself trying to cut back sod from the front flower bed or doing any transplanting. It’ll be too hot for all that.
Okay, time to get a move on. I hope you all have a good day.
Reminded me of one of Bill Cosby’s funnier routines (back before we knew he was a skeevy predator.) He was talking about having to get breakfast for his kids, when he realized cake had egg and wheat and milk, components of breakfast! “Dad is great! Give us chocolate cake!”
The chile colorado is in the slow-cooker. I’ve chopped up an onion and put it in a bag with the container of sour cream, bags of Mexica-blend shredded cheese, and a big spoon. Just have to shower and dress, but we won’t leave for church until 10:15-ish.
We had some rain squalls last evening, so no need to go water the tomato today. Breakfasted and kaffeened and ready for a day of sloth.
Today’s NYT crossword is apparently beyond my abilities, so off with its head sez I.
It’s my daughter’s 52nd birthday today, but she’ll spend it with her mother, no doubt. My eldest turns 54 this October. I can’t wait until 2026 when I can razz him about being old enough to move into our building. Both he and my daughter whine about being in their 50s. Cripes, my 50s were great, and my 60s were pretty good, too. The former were my biggest earning years, and I retired at 62. As for my 70s. . .well, I’m still alive and hope to stay that way for awhile longer.

Yesterday’s lunch with my friend and her daughter was really nice! Turns out both of them and my friend’s husband had also been forced to change jobs within the past few months, so we bonded over our shared emotional rollercoasters. I’d seen my friend seven months ago, but it had been at least a year since I’d seen her daughter (who I’ve known since she was ~6): I like her, but had forgotten how insecure she is. Oy. She’ll be 30 later this year and has a master’s degree, but is still living at home and has been struggling to find a job she likes. That was her main topic at lunch, and (to me) everything she said indicated someone who’s just super insecure. She’s smart, and a good/nice person; I feel for her. My friend and her husband will be downsizing to a condo sometime in the next two years, and the daughter knows she has to move out before then…it’ll be interesting to see how that unfolds.
In a clear sign that I have lost what little was left of my mind, yesterday I signed up to help with a local primary on the 28th. A Democratic congressman from the neighboring district died last month, which means a special election…which means an unassembled caucus (a primary election run by a political party, not the state; aka a “firehouse primary”)*. The dates for the election and primary were just announced, and the district’s Democratic Committee needs help staffing the caucus: locations aren’t finalized yet and there wasn’t much info on the interest form, so whether I actually do wind up volunteering will depend on where the polling place is (it’s a big district), which position I’m assigned to, and how long of a shift they require (I won’t be up for another +12-hour day less than two weeks after the statewide primary). We’ll see what I hear.
*Your locality’s process may differ!
In other news, my nephew and his GF arrived safely from Lubbock yesterday: I got a “holy shit!” text from my nephew when he made it to his room and saw the Lego Batwing that I fixed in March*. He’s very happy with it and loved the surprise, which makes me very happy. I’m excited about seeing him/them this evening.
Batwing Backstory
1-2 years ago, a massive tree fell on my BFF’s house and crashed through the ceiling of my nephew’s bedroom – luckily, he wasn’t home at the time. His Batwing fell off the wall: it stayed probably 90% assembled, but some of the pieces got lost in the ceiling debris. He never had the time or patience to fix it before he moved to Lubbock in January, but he was always a little bothered by the damage. When my contract ended abruptly at the end of February, I was between Lego sets and absentmindedly mentioned to WifeBFF that I could use some brick therapy while looking for a new job: she suggested fixing the Batwing, which was a perfect idea!
Speaking of Lego, I started assembling the Lego Hogwarts Express book nook after I got home from lunch: that wound up being my main activity yesterday, and I finished it after dinner.
It only had 832 pieces – vs the Sherlock Holmes book nook’s 1,359 – so it was a relatively quick build. I’ll likely start the Balrog book nook this afternoon: that one has 1,201 pieces and I’m going to my BFFs’ tonight, so I’ll finish it sometime this week. When it’s done I’ll post a photo of all three book nooks on their shelf.
Excellent! I’m glad it went well!
That’s where my nephew and his GF will be moving next month: her new job is in north Dallas, and their apartment is in Addison. They’ve been living in Lubbock, and don’t know a thing about Dallas…I’ve never been there, either. I’m hoping to visit them either this fall/early winter or maybe in the early spring.
Indeed.
I’m starting to think we should cover you two in bubble wrap…
My mom used to have that special on VHS! I can still see/hear him singing that!!
I put out some dry flavorless bits for Brian, and someone had been munching on them. I hope it is the cat and not the squirrels, but based on the whole bowl not being emptied, I’m thinking it is Brian.
Whelp, we turned on the AC last night to take the house down to 73 and… nothing. Turned the thermostat off and on, flipped the relevant breakers off and on. Put in a call.
The Guy came today. Apparently we have a coolant leak. I was polite, but had some things to say about this system, which we replaced about a year and a half ago. They want something like $2600+ in labor. I politely reminded The Guy of his answer that a coolant leak was likely to be due to manufacturer defect or misinstallation. He, of course is a different Guy than the one I’ll politely dispute with about labor costs for either their error or defective parts.
It’s 76 inside, 82 outside. I took out the compost and I’ll hang dry my laundry. When the sun moves west, I’ll open the east windows. I may need to go to the library if I’m to get any writing done this week.
Just cause, I went out and looked at the ceiling fan on the porch. (I know that it was put in 40 years ago when the porch was redone, Donna left a bunch of dated pics of the house in the attic. One of the workers found the box when he was putting more insulation in. (Odd that the guys we had in when we first bought the place didn’t find it…))
So anyhow, that fan also has a switch. Look at the sides above the light fixture/s. It should be under the blades, that’s where all of the ones I’ve see are.
Back when I lived in Asia and Hawaii, I didn’t own a car. The public transport systems were good enough that I didn’t need one. I did have to walk to the bus stops though. I would get bored waiting, so would walk to the next stop and the next one and the next thing I knew, I was where I wanted to be.
The nice thing about being so close to stores is being able to shop daily or for just a few days. You still have three weeks and you have a freezer and know how to use it. All will be well, I’m sure.
How embarrassing, at least we were making whoopy when I fell out of our bed.
Seriously though, dang. That had to have hurt.
Thank you, I really enjoyed “making” it.
I liked my 50s. I was making good money and had finally learned to not give a shit. I could even walk away from internet arguments with strangers over declawing cats, LOL!!!
HURRAY for Super Aunt!
Well, yeah. They are good, but two or three a year is our limit. Plus, we have a big freezer so we eat what we want the first night then butcher the bird, keep out a few meals worth in the fridge and then label and freeze meal sized portions.
As we still have some tzatziki sauce left, tonight Hubs will throw a steak on the grill for himself and basket of shrimp and veggies for me. We work our grill a bunch during the spring and summer.
Dang it Ollie! Dang for your wallet, didn’t you just get done putting a bunch of money of repairs? So now you have caught up somewhat and the gawds laughed at you again. I sure do know how that works.
So far, they’ve left ours alone but I’m thinking about chicken wire just in case.
How long before you move?
That certainly looked like something that some people enjoy. I’m glad the weather was good and that they all had fun.
I agree that it also looks like something better enjoyed from afar.
I remember that, this is NOT acceptable. I hope you get both coolness and satisfaction soon.
