(Old) Toss it on the grill in the MMP

If anyone’s interested in the results of my anal probe, I’ve received the final diagnosis. Negative for high grade dysplasia and carcinoma, and one hyperplastic (non-cancerous) polyp.

*whew*

Congrats!

The maintemamce guy came and replaced the strobing lightbulb. The outlets in the kitchen need replacing. He’ll do that tomorrow. He’s the nicest, hardest-working maintenance guy I’ve ever known. There’s a reason all the dogs love him.

Well, the chills are back, so maybe I overdid the icicle visualizations. I’m counting on feeling A-OK by morning, as I have a 9 a.m. haircut appointment. Can’t miss THAT!

So self-abuse? I slapped myself on your behalf.

We loved those cookies! The real jingle went

Mommy!
What is it, dear?
I want a Salerno butter cookie!
Mommy!
What is it dear?
I want a Salerno butter cookie!

Did you sing the kid version? Same lyrics, but the last line is, “Skip the cookie and gimme a beer!” Such sophisticates we chilluns were back then.

   You crack me up. I’m passing this one along to my niece.

flyboy, that was a rough read. Those poor little girls…and their poor mama.
But congrats on the good test results!

Coppertone, congrats on the new gig! fingers are crossed this one works out for you!

Ew. I never knew there was a market for such things until recently. I guess it’s like bubble wrap, only oogier.

Oo! People should schedule just before Halloween! Thanks to you and Boo for the explanation!

Hurrah!

Yes, ma’am!

I hope Harry gets sprung soon! The cantankerousness is a good sign, right?

Let’s just say the dishes in the china cabinet made quite a chorus. I have no idea why they were so low. The base is almost 20 miles away.

Boo, I can only say that I’m impressed with your strength and resilience in surviving all the crap you have. I wish it hadn’t been needed.

Off to bed.

May you keep the progress up!

Sometimes that’s as easy as anything someone else cooks.

Richard was quite the professional! I will receive my first reduced benefits check (will be going through the SSDI process though). Now I have to notify my employer of my intent to retire effective 20 June, set up my 401k disbursement, COBRA and notify the recently found pension to begin receiving it.

He likely knows this, but attributing it to age gives him a more dignified out.

Just keep checking after family is gone. That’s when shit will get real for her and she may need a good neighbor to lean on.

Sis and I have most of our boxes ticked for this trip, so there will be a dog park visit (Nelson’s mother was in season when they got here and couldn’t go). I will empty my grandfather’s bookcase tomorrow so she can load it in the car (I really don’t want to send this with the movers since my granddad made it in shop class in 1918 using butternut lumber that he’d helped harvest from his uncle’s farm a couple of years earlier). She’s also going to take the the family scrapbooks with her.

Now for sleep.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave(into the cages, then run around and heave 'em into a package car).

Yay!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 16c/61f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “It’s cloudy, but not much else is fucking happening. I’d take a fucking nap if I were you.” I’d love to, I was awake stupidly early, and I have a 2hr dept meeting to attend.

I had chicken and some beef mince so it became a decision on which one would be campus food, and which would be dinner. I used the mince for campus food with some onion, peppers, sweetcorn, taco seasoning and passata. The chicken got baked in a spice bag in the oven so I had Mexican spiced chicken with boiled new potatoes and salad.

Well, obviously…also know people named Barry, Erin, Jerry, Karen, Melissa, Olga, Tanya and Wendy. I hope the first hurricane with my name on it heads straight for Mar-a-Taco.

Mum had various collapsible things that often got borrowed by other seniors where she was living. They also purloined a shopping trolley from one of the local supermarkets (I think it was actually donated) which came in useful for getting stuff from cars into the building.

That is an excellent plan, you need to take some time for yourself after the awful experiences you’ve had recently.

That’s good news, I hope he knows how many people across the country and in foreign parts were worried about him!

Pavo cute pics of your visitors!

No, just “the bit on the side”

I’m glad it was a relatively painless process, I’m not sure how I’d survive 4hrs in the chair - sitting long enough for the cleaning and polishing is enough for me.

Good news on your tum, I hope the rest of you stops feeling crummy soon too.

Oh, such a sad thing to read

Nothing much exciting in the rest of yesterday - campus food was made, dinner was made and scoffed, dishes were washed, cats were fussed. I was in bed not too long after 10pm and wide awake at 4.45am. I gave in and got up a bit later, and was on campus by 8am. It’s going to be a long day as I have to take minutes at a dept meeting this morning and probably write them up this afternoon.

Our main student record system is going to be out of action due to scheduled maintenance tomorrow, apparently it does off at 4pm today and will not be available until 3pm tomorrow. Yeah, it’s not like this is the busiest part of our year and we need that system to do our jobs…it might only be a day, but it’s a day at a crucial time of year when we are under serious pressure.

It’s my pub friend’s birthday today so hopefully we will be going out tonight to celebrate. She went out with her partner yesterday for an early celebration as she has to work today, and I’ll see them later. Other than that, just a normal day at the coalface.

Mornin’ all - About an hour predawn as I started reading. Gray, breezy, and 76/24 on the way up to 84/29. Supposedly rainy & thunderstormy all day, but I haven’t heard a boom all week.

Took an Advil before bed just in case but that was unnecessary. Now this morning I definitely feel a foreign object in my mouth, but no discomfort whatsoever. I bet by tonight I’ll be used to this interloper. Just need to remember to eat softly and deliberately for a week.

I imagined up a special soft breakfast just for the occasion. Grits covered in sausage gravy with scrambled eggs on top. My pancreas is trembling, but just call me Cheaty McCheatface today. For once Mr. Pancreas just needs to suck it up. Now I need to decide who gets to cook it for me.

Today is “take the car to the shop for a slowly leaking tire” day. That and breakfast should pretty well eat the entire morning. Other than that I have no plans. RDOS FTW.

The American version of that is “scarfed”. I didn’t know the British used “scoffed” in the same spot.

Nellie: please be gentle on yourself and get better. We know you want to be a Force of Nature, but an overplayed hand seldom wins.

Good morning! I’ve just finished the second half of my chicken noodle soup (heavy on the chicken) for breakfast.

Annie is sitting in her chair beside me. Last night she had a very unhappy tummy. I am so glad that she’s doing better today. I was afraid we were going to have to take a trip to the emergency vet, but fortunately the dog-sized dose of Prilosec that I gave her was ok.

Today I’ve got my two interviews - one by phone, one by zoom. Not gonna lie, I am a bit nervous. Hopefully I do not get my tongue tied.

Coppertone, congrats on your new job!
Pilot, yeah, I know it’s not actually Novocain, but I was too lazy to look up the real name.
Doggio, what do you do if the tooth numbing stuff doesn’t work on you?
Nellie, feel better, dammit!

'im indoors uses “scarfed” as well, maybe you’ve imported it from the Scots as he’s from just outside Glasgow.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 81 with rain later this mornin’ and continuin’ the rest of the day. If TWPTB are to be believed we will have rain over the next ten days. We shall see. Provisions will be procured this mornin’. Then I get RDOS time until it’s time to go prepare tacos to feed the VBS waifs. On the upside this is the last day for that. VBS wraps up tomorrow with a visit to the planetarium and da bear has no desire to do that.

Whilst lasagna was bakin’ away last night I decided to take care of candle duty since I was there and had time. I took other Verger’s granddaughter with me cause she wanted to “help” and she’s a cutie who knows I could not say no. She asked a bazillion questions about the candles and other stuff. She assisted me, if that’s what you can call it, and it took twice as long as it usually does, but she enjoyed it so I guess that made it worth it all. I also let her ring the big bell. Well she stood on a step stool and put her hand on the rope while I pulled, but that still counts as ringin’ the bell. Other Verger heard the bell (well duh the thing is loud!) and said she laughed cause she knew Aria conned me into it. Actually that was the other way around.

My RDOS and grumpy old man cred has been stretched thin this week!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I must purtify and don acceptable attire for bein’ amongst the great unwashed.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Naughty, naughty you! And I say this based on old (from my childhood) dictionary definition of masturbation. And if you meant my inclination to actual hurting myself, well, I did elect, of my own accord, to prune the azaleas…

Would that I had that option, but my spousal unit, for all his talents, is a disaster in the kitchen. Except for omelettes - I can’t make one to save my life, but he makes beauties.

OMG - this reminded me of the other day when we drove past a local doggie daycare that has its play yard right by the road. There was a dog humping another dog’s head!! Dogs is weird.

The apartment where MIL lived had a couple of carts and some wagons stored in a stairwell for residents’ use. They were a good size, but small enough to fit in the elevator. We used them more than once in both directions. They were perfect for boxes of stuff as we moved her out.

I decided to start my day by removing yesterday’s bandaids. Bad choice. The big owie on my left arm immediately started bleeding - it was more of a scrape than a stab, so the ends of a lot of capillaries were exposed and immediately made themselves known. It’s been re-bandaged. The other two aren’t as bad - I may be able to leave them uncovered.

Today’s big plan is a trip into Leonardtown to fill my car with the 25¢-off gas, then run into Food Lion for the loss leaders this week. Not sure what I’ll do back home, but it’s won’t involve azaleas, that’s for sure.

Mid-80s promised this afternoon, so the warmest day so far this spring/summer/whatever it is.

Oh, and yesterday, my order of seasonings was delivered. I got 3.5 oz of tarragon. I was expecting a little round bottle. Nope, I got one that’s about 2X4X8" tall! I’m guessing the little round bottles are about a quarter of an ounce. So I’m set for tarragon for a while. Luckily, the use-by date is 2030. So I need to find some good tarragon recipes!

And so the adventure begins. Happy Wednesday!!

We caught a woman trying to steal our laundry cart from the laundry room. “Oh, it looks just like mine, so I thought it was mine!” I looked around the room and there were no other carts there, so she was a lying bitch.

My guess: “Scarfed” was the original; "scoffed’ was what it mutated to after use by non-rhotic English speakers. (Cf “Throatwarbler/Throatwobbler Mangrove”.) In my experience it’s always “scarfed down”, not just “scarfed”.

Do you put your name on your stuff? We put a luggage tag on MIL’s walker and wheelchair - partly against theft, partly because the bright yellow tags made it easier for her to identify both with her failing eyes.

FCD is making me crazy. He says that he thinks he’s eating too much, but he rarely makes the minimum amount he’s supposed to have. So then he won’t eat. He’s lost 20# in the last 6 anna half weeks, he can pull his jeans off without unbuttoning them, but he frets if his weight fluctuates day-to-day. I told him to just weigh once a week (that’s what they told up back in my Weight Watchers days) but he still won’t eat. Man makes me crazy. And even when he does eat, the only fruit is 'nanners. smh

And, of course, he’s fretting about the cruise. I’m a bit concerned for myself, only because of the variety of desserts always available. But there’s also a huge variety of other foods so there’s no reason to expect we can’t eat carefully. It won’t be easy, but it’s doable.

How can such a smart man be so pigheadedly non-smart?

And the word of the day is control.

You’ve got so much going on and many things are out of his control. But, it’s (relatively) easy to control what you put in your mouth and it’s even easier to control how many times you weigh yourself in a week.

Yeah, I’m sure you know all this. Hugs to both of you!

Wisdom. When you have lots of out-of-controls, find something you can control, then overcontrol the shit out of it. Human nature, but not very helpful human nature.

I weighed myself daily for about 8 years. Always at the same time of day under the same conditions: freshly out of bed, freshly relieved, no food or drink yet. It was 100% normal that today was 2 or 3# different from yesterday. I wandered in that 5-6# wide band for several years with no net motion.

FCD ought to be able to understand that as a matter of engineering. Ought.

We did similarly for late aged MIL. The tags were also handy when one of the many semi-senile folks grabbed her walker and sincerely thought it was her own. Until the tags were pointed out to her. “Oh, how did those get there? They weren’t there when I took this one from the fleet of walkers by the door.”

My food has been scoffed / scarfed and off to the car place. Not even 9am yet; hooray for such mighty productivity!

It was 84 yesterday and will be today. Maintenance hasnt turned the a/c on yet. Its good for me, I dont get the morning sun and in the evening, the tree blocks the light, sadly.
People on higher floors are probably unhappy.

Funny. I was just thinking of Trump, and this song came to mind (as it always does when I think of him). You might think of it whenever you see the laundry looter.

johnny la, that story is just heartbreaking.

tomorrow i will be at a w b mason stationary event. always a good time. lots of samples. soooooo many pens. it goes from 9-3, i’ll go home from there. it is at the phillies ballpark.

then friday is lager’s vet appt. he is not a happy boy at the vet. i have to sing his song and rub his nose to keep him calm. poor vet and tech will get an ear worm friday. he will give me the “cold tail” once we get home.

still pondering my cataract options. i’m 90+% sure i’m not getting a premium lens. i will discuss the toric lens, i’m thinking the wrinkle in my left eye will, here comes a pun, put a wrinkle in the toric lens possibility.

i can gather info and form theories. on the 13th i will have an informed discussion with the expert.

FWIW, I wear toric contacts. The result is not nearly as good as my spectacles. I don’t know how to translate my contact experience into cataract lenses though.
