(Old) Trying To Reason with Hurricane Season - A Hockey MMP

I can actually understand that- it’s often really the panic induced by not having enough time that slows some people down. If the pressure’s off, they don’t panic. They need the time to be there, they don’t need to use it.

I currently have a garden full of bees. There’s a big shrub- a deutzia- which is just a bee magnet at this time of year; I think it just happens to overlap with a flowering gap that we can often get this time of year- when the spring flowers are done but the summer ones aren’t quite there yet.
There’s loads of bumblebees, plus a whole range of assorted solitary bees all over it. I came home a bit early today intending to do some writing, but I just spent about an hour sitting there watching them and trying to ID all the species.

Firefly petunias aren’t allowed this side of the pond. People here get very jumpy about GM plants, so they’re generally not allowed out of labs. We have plenty at irk- none have bitten me yet (in fact the tech, who’s currently having to update all the pointless health and safety signs for the lab telling people not to do the things that they already know not to do, told me I wasn’t allowed to stick up a ‘Danger, triffids seen in this area’ sign on the GM plant lab, which is so mean).

Oh, and the roller derby group near where I used to live had a guy in his early 80s in it, though he did stick to the skates not the blades- you’re never too old to do silly stuff.

Ah, I recall you posting that, just didn’t connect the details.

I just wanna say, with all the turmoil in our present world, it’s really good to know that there are small pockets of happiness still poking their heads up. You, the Egg-Cracker, that one woman the other day who was so happy to get her pizza she did The Happy-Wiggle ™ in the car …

Overcast and mild today. We had some thunderstorm activity last evening, but it blew by pretty quickly. The tomato plant is loving the weather.

I overheard a woman in exercise class talking about possibly being scammed, so I talked to her about it after. She answered a call from an 804- number (first mistake) and a person with a heavy accent said she was calling from the woman’s bank (second alert) and managed to get the woman to disclose her credit card number (trifecta) and account information (holy shit!). She did have the sense to call her bank the next day and the bank said they didn’t see anything suspicious and that the woman should just wait and see if anything happens. My advice: cancel your credit card immediately, monitor your account daily, and never, ever, EVER disclose information of that nature over the phone. A bank or credit card company or the IRS will NEVER call you. Lastly, if you don’t recognize the number, don’t answer the phone. By the time I was done talking to her I had an audience.

A woman in the building is putting together a pet book and wants to take a photo of us with the cat. Good luck with that. Sadie does NOT like to be held and is frightened by strangers. She’ll have to settle for one of my photos instead.

The usual bouncing about between Tables and slides. 2 FT Sups and the Shop Steward had a discussion with one of the 100 South loaders. Apparently they guy also hydroplaned in the last bit of rain and wrecked his new truck, so he’s having a week. I got out at 11ish, and the water was off. So if you heard a high pitched scream, it was me taking a sponge bath and cleaning my unmentionables with cold water. It felt like Lent 2.0.I’m having fish sticks and tater tots for lunch, since it’s pretty a no hand wash type of day. Laundry will commence when the water flow does.

“No, I can’t even with that one” - Cthulhu

Wanna come over and watch Matlock on my VCR?

They are gonna revoke your RDOS membership if you keep at this.

Natter away, we like ponies.

Yay!

Unfortunately, I do not have this luxury. I work with field techs all over the country, and I do need to answer their calls.

Different environment. These are all seniors in a facility designed for them; in other words, victims-in-waiting. If it’s not family or close friends, or someone in their contacts list, the phone shouldn’t be answered (generally speaking).

Agreed.

Legitimate callers do tend to leave voicemail, which is one way I filter calls coming from numbers not in my contact list.

hippie I don’t like musicals except for The Music Man and I know the entire score. My mother and I watched it countless times together. Like you I can’t resist when it’s on except it makes me extremely melancholy and kind of sad. I have most of the score d onto my phone so the next time Trouble plays in my car I will dedicate it to our mothers who I hope are not appalled by the fact that I am completely tone deaf I will sing the whole song.

And BTDubs, Robert Preston wuz robbed of an Oscar.

Unless they’re using geothermal - then it’d just be the cost of running a pump.

Morning shopping was mostly a bust - Aldi didn’t have my preferred breakfast cereal and Food Lion only had one of my preferred yogurt. Oh well…

Once home, I got all productive. Three loads of laundry, a ginormous batch of sketty sauce (enough for 5 meals) and a 4-meal batch of chili for FCD. (I don’t like chili, so it’s all for him.) I’ve also been making ice all day. We’re going out on the boat tomorrow, so I need to pack lunch. Daughter will be feeding her crew.

Supper tonight is forage. I’m about to go stand in front of the pantry and figger out what I want. FCD is napping, but he’s having chili, so that’s easy.

I had a raggedy night last night - methinks I’ll sleep with Mel tonight.

You are a very bad man who will probably come to a bad end!

Hehehehe.

I am very happy for you, I know you missed them a whole lot. May you enjoy many more!
(what did the fuzzbutts think about mom willingly submerging herself in water?)

I hope it goes well and that she heals easily.

Such a sweet memory. Your mom must have been a lovely person, she raised a wonderful man.

“Look, a rumble! Lets join!!!”

Holy cow!!! Is that income based because you are still working?

I do hope you are being paid very well, you deserve it for putting up with that on a regular basis.

It is very sad and I doubt it will get any better soon. We are losing so much beauty and sound.

I saw a faint glow last night, but it might have just been the moonlight reflecting off the white petals. It certainly didn’t look like the pics shown online!

I need to get a camera, my phone takes OK pictures in good light but that’s about it.

But it looks so nice when everything has filled out. I’m thinking about going to the nursery in Nitro for the drive but if anything jumps in my car, I won’t kick it back out.

I’m a week behind you, our Romas are only two inches long and the cherries aren’t even starting to turn colors yet.

You are being silly again!

There’s a chair in the corner for you as well!

Good analogy, you know there is the possibility of blood but looking away is so hard. I don’t know what I would have done if the mockingbirds hadn’t gotten involved. To out and yell “Hey you guys, cut it out! Someone’s going to get hurt!!!”? I’m sure that would have done nothing at all, LOL!!!

There are always a bunch of small things, but at least you’ve got the big stuff done. May you enjoy your new home for years to come.

Point made, LOL!

I’m glad you nice budista hooked you up, but do safe some for your birthday!

I certainly will, like you, I’m sure it is pretty expensive. I think I’d faint seeing one of their monthly electric bills already and keeping that much driveway ice free will probably double it.

They have been cleaning up the busted up concrete and running a tractor around smoothing down the dirt, so they are making progress. They started at 0700 and quit around 1500 which was reasonable because it got hot today. They will probably keep to that schedule until the job is finished, summer is here for the summer now.

I can’t say as how I blame them. I started looking at the Firefly Petunias last year and figured that I could probably have faith in the greed of the designers. They didn’t want to spend ten years creating something they could only sell for a year, so made sure that gardeners couldn’t replant with last year’s seeds.

I’m keeping it in a pot on the porch, it won’t go into the ground…just to be sure.

You are a very good man, they are lucky to have such a kind neighbor to help them out.

So not much happened here today, I saw the vampire and stopped at Tudors for biskits and gravy. I thought about ice cream, but I was starving and wanted something a little more filling.

A very nice young man at the Dollar Store unpacked a case of borax so I could use the box to mail the vase and I brought the box home and packed it. I think it could survive being thrown like a football, but might not survive getting run over by one of their trucks. It got delivered to the UPS store and TC friend should see it in three days, so that’s done.

As an aside, one of my college physics classes had us figure out ways to drop fresh eggs off a three story building and land intact. My first egg broke and then I took it seriously. My second egg took almost ten minutes to get out of the package. It was a learning process, but no more eggs were sacrificed to science.

Other than that, it was a day filled with sloth and inactivity. I’ll have to water tonight, we won’t be getting rain until Sunday and the maters are thirsty.

I have posted pieces here before, but this is the finished quilt right now hanging in the Omaha Quilter’s Guild annual quilt show:

:pink_heart::heart::orange_heart::yellow_heart::green_heart::light_blue_heart::blue_heart::purple_heart::brown_heart::white_heart::grey_heart::black_heart:

Hey, hippie! You really oughta post this gorgeous creation over in the Cafe Society DIY and Hobby thread. I’d link it but I don’t know how.

People who scam older folks are the worst sort of non-lethal scum, short of drug pushers. How anyone in good conscience can steal from people who don’t know how to defend themselves is beyond me. They had a seminar about it here last year, but it wasn’t very good, IMO.

hippie beautiful. I really like the pattern.

I posted it

They seemed happy. They like to look at the water. They haven’t gotten to the paw-dipping stage yet. Our previous brace of boikatz enjoyed slurping girl soup.

My lovely wife is reasonably comfortable. The finger is on her dominant hand, so I’ll have to find amusements for her. Maybe a little trip to Canada to check out some gluten-free bakeries.

JtC I haven’t heard of these flowers. Keep us informed!

Hippie, gorgeous use of color and pattern.

I hope everyone moves, builds, and intoxicates themselves without too much damage.

And it’s nearly early evening here, so time to check in. 25 messages in 8 hours, you have been busy Mumpers. Me, had some sammiches and then went to the gym for a bit–I ended up playing on my phone and reading as much as I exercised, I’m trying to do less concentrating on maximum calorie burn (since that encourages me to eat more food and I end up putting on weight, so all things in moderation). Came home and had a Thomas’ muffin, some applesauce and a banana so hunger is held in abeyance and only 300 calories. Will have my Big Bowl O’Sallit in a bit and that will complete most of the day’s consumption. Still over 80F outside so summertime seems to be just around the bend here.

And time to play the condiment game with y’all (catch-up).

Bright Tree, birds going to crap wherever…in the fall we have a lot of Geese using a pond next to the soccer fields and sometimes they use the nearest field as an avian latrine, which can make soccer practice…interesting…

Oopsie, glad the move went smoothly, and yeah, the things you will now notice that you need in your new digs will eat into the budget. And whenever I move, it will be to a one-level apartment/condo because after 30 years of no stairs, I’m not about to start using them again. Take your time and enjoy the new place.

Shoe, glad you’re feeling…mellow.

52, glad you have clear water again.

Nut, glad you had a pleasant time watching the bees…me, I get wasps around my mailbox and they are no fun at all…

Cookie, ya done good for that lady, it’s perhaps not politically correct, but when I hear an obvious foreign voice with an American name asking me something, the phone is usually halfway to disconnect. Good luck with the Sadie-picture.

doggio, hope you get water back soon and it’s not too messy like 52 did.

I’m re-watching MASH on MeTV most afternoons…

FCM, that is a productive day in the kitchen.

JtC, Yes ma’am, I’ll go quietly.

Hippie that is an outstanding piece of workmanship. (Like the T-shirt too).

Lily,

Maybe I’m not braining well, but what?

And that’s all for now. Time to get that salad bowl out and mix up some evening vittles. Take care all.

The previous male cats liked to sit on the edge of the tub and lap water when we lady humans took baths.

I finished setting up my desk, then moved to the basement: I did a lot of sitting around and binge-watching Elementary, but managed to complete one whole corner of the TV/family room. :joy: I figured out where Mom’s and Bailey’s photos should go, plus Mom’s flag (presented to her when she retired from federal service; it’s in a nice case, with her name on a plaque underneath). I also cleaned the glass curio cabinet and unpacked/cleaned/set up my crystal figurines. Now it’s 7:30pm and I’m taking the rest of the night off, save for the occasional “oh yeah, I need to bring some tissues down here” moments.

The furniture company texted to let me know that my ESTIMATED delivery window for the new couch is 9-12 tomorrow…they put ESTIMATED in all caps. Twice. :joy: The bean bag chair is serviceable, and definitely better than sitting on the floor, but I will be very glad to have a couch down here. I paid for white-glove service, so they’ll bring it in and put it together and remove the packing materials. After the delivery, I’ll go over to my old place: nothing in the laundry room was moved yesterday, so I need to grab that stuff. I also need to remove the picture hangers from the walls, and I want to do a triple-check that I didn’t leave anything else in the house. On the way back I’ll go to the grocery store: I let supplies run low before the move, and it’s time to stock back up.

Thank you both!

I signed a two-year lease so I’ll be here for at least that long, but I’m hoping this place will be a “keeper”…at least, the rental equivalent. Another 12 years will get me to retirement, when I’ll need to find something cheaper and will likely be ready for single-level living again.

:open_mouth:! Beautiful!
