Old TV apology - take 2

I think I asked this eons ago with no luck, but here goes.

Back in the early 1970’s hall-of-fame broadcaster Joe Garagiola was the host of a game show called “Sale of the Century”. I was home sick one morning and was watching the game shows when Joe came on before his program and offered an apology for his behaviour from the previous episode. It’s been eating me up for 35 years; what the hell did Joe do to merit an on-air apology?

Please, please, does anybody know. My googling came up with nada.

He apparently used some naughty language (link goes to Google Groups).

Gordon,

I’d like to buy you a beer. I never thought I’d get an answer to that one.
How’d you find this? Surely not google, or did I just totally screw up my search?

Thanks a million!

The search term was “garagiola “sale of the century” apologized”. Google doesn’t always search Groups as well IME.

Aha! That’s what I did wrong. I totally forgot to search the newsgroups.
