Old U.S. Savings Bonds

I just found some “Series E” U.S. Savings Bonds in my deceased mother’s name. They have a total value of $100, and have issue dates in 1968, 1974 and 1978. What would they be worth today, and how can I redeem them? My brother and I were equal beneficiaries of her estate, if that’s relevant.

If you have the serial numbers and issue dates, you can use the calculator here.

You can also download the Savings Bond Wizard program from the same site, here:

http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/tools/tools_savingsbondwizard.htm

It does the same thing as the link provided by Dewey Finn, but does multiples, you can save the file, and the software can update the values every month.
