(Old) Waiting for an Update in the MMP

I’m thinking that the catio is the likely priority.

Glad that you’re feeling better.

I did that with my car. My sister is also on the title.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. After, I’ll take the bills to the blue box and then head to CVS to pick up the prescriptions that weren’t in stock last weekend. Other than that, it will be a quiet day.

When I took Nelson out this morning, the two poodles next door were out, along with Bella, two doors down. I let him off leash after the walk so’s he could participate in the throwing of the sticks. Bella and Sully would chase the sticks and he would chase them. Now he’s snoozing in my arms. We may head to the dog park later.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Up at a weird time: not enough sleep to count as “ready to start my day” but hours later than I usually fall back asleep.

May wind up taking a little nap in my car on my lunch break tonight …

The Oracles predicted rain but I see no signs of it, so I opened the door to let Monks out and flies a fresh breeze in.

At least there isn’t blinding sunshine, so with luck I may get a bit more Zzzzs before work.

Just need to eat first - I have an insta-cup of strawberry flavored oatmeal that might be just the ticket. Simple, tasty, no cleanup, and relatively healthy.
OK I’ve convinced myself!

I have … questions. Quite familiar with alyssum, but what (besides a currently rather important muckety-muck) is the bolded?

I thought the exact same thing.

Meant to tell you, your new avatar is very pretty.

Always sumpin’ isn’t it.

I am of the opinion that “low class” refers to people with a selfish, malicious nature & an unwillingness to expand their horizons or learn anything new … not by anything measurable by income levels.

(Really trashy hair/makeup/clothes also fit in.)

Thanks.

Couple of friends texted me that mystery gifts are en route, along with apologies for the belated shipment/arrival, to which I always roundly reject the apology.
Why wouldn’t I want to extend the celebration?

Hell, S.M. had to (gently) fuss at me to open all my gifts - she’d wrapped each multi-set of earring studs separately, so I was having fun eeeeeeeeking things out as long as possible. But I know much of the fun is seeing the person’s face when they unwrap something you’re excited to have found for them, and she really put a lot of thought into her selections.

That sounds like absolute, literal hell.

I get not wanting to transition between hot/steamy and super-chilled, I do … but I’d personally rather avoid the miserable humidity in the 1st place.

Happy almost Birthday, I’ll bet the cowbells were fun

Could you please post pics of your catio, the ones showing the fencing and attachments so I can share with hubs. GG really wants to sit on the porch with us.

These are Bidens. I have deep orange ones and the kind of goldenrod and orange variety.Biden plants

Here’s what we started with: A deck with a roof.

Imgur

I added 2x4 posts at the back and the side to A) Provide support for the 2x4 fencing material; and B) to put up four sliding gates. I used pocket door hardware to mount the gates. (I’m kind of proud of myself for thinking of that. Other people think it was a neat idea too.) The bottoms are held with simple angles, and the bottom locks are simply metal wire tent pegs in little screw eyes, and the pegs go into holes I drilled in the deck.

Imgur

Oh… I used fence staples to attach the fencing to the wood. I joined the bottoms and tops of the fencing (because the fencing material is only four feet wide) with small zip-ties.

One of the first things I did for myself after I got settled was find a big nature field guide to Midwestern wildlife.

'Twas fun to see what I might … yanno, see!

Probably more a sign of rainy weather. You’re gonna hafta get used to not being in the dry desert anymore!

Oh, they are so magical. Enjoy your lush new home, darling!

Man, am I poooped. It was a fun b-day, but we were way short-handed last night (they missed my party! { pout } ) plus I found out the two guys on the closing crew thought I was Early Out, too (assuming a birthday girl wouldn’t wanna work late) and thought it’d just be them & the manager at close.

No wonder they were busting their butts!

We eventually received a 24-second sprinkle. { unimpressed voice } “Oooohhhh.”

Alright, time to yank myself out of the current case of donwannas, put on semi- clean pants, and bestir myself in the irk direction.

Well, the wife wanted to get a new bunch of peonies at the farmers’ market, so we jumped in the car for the five minute drive over there. In order to get on the main road, I have to pass through an intersection where I have the right of way, but I always slow way down for it because on the left as one approaches it, it’s somewhat blind for people approaching the stop sign. In other words, it’s difficult for them to see someone like me until I’m already in the intersection.

It’s a good thing that that’s my MO, because some stupid asshole came barreling in off the busier street and cut the corner just as I was approaching. If I hadn’t already been braking, she would have hit me head-on. I unleashed a stream of invective that would make my old military buddies proud, and barely missed getting creamed. That’ll teach me to go out on a weekend. Fucking hell.

There is a current thread in the Pit about bad drivers.

I had a not-fun moment heading for the farmer’s market myself. Cruising along a major street going approximately south-bound, upcoming signal is green for me and has been for long enough no cross-traffic should be in that intersection. Idiot speeds through from my right, doing a left that takes them onto the street I’m using, proceeding north. If I’d been driving as fast as a lot of people do on that street, idiot would have been T-boned. Fortunately for them, I’m prone to sticking to the speed limit in busy areas.

Afternoon all. Soccer has been refereed without incident but a fair amount of movement for a 71-year old in 80F heat, so just consumed 3 Double-Krystals with Cheese to replace some of those calories and may do a little more at the gym since Sunday Dinner will be at the Olive Garden and that will be a lot of eating. But right now my feet are up and my shirt is off and I am in my comfy chair so no particular reason to move right now. Maybe a bit later…

Pilot, my annuities and other policies have my brother as my beneficiary as does my Will, but probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to talk with an estate planner/attorney sometime. Still planning on living forever (or die trying), but now in my 70s things like that become more in focus. Have a good time in Panama.

Taters, it sounds like a good start to the weekend, car tabs $$$ or not. Happy weeding.

JtC, I concur that you’ll adjust to the trains pretty quickly. And sitting outside watching fireflies does bring back memories for me.

Flyboy, interesting pictures, you did quite a bit of work on that. And congrats on the new jackey. I googled images of it and it looks pretty sharp. And we’ve had a few ‘Spas’ shut down around here too. No derailments, however.

Dicey, hope the weather improves, to much wet and dreary is not any fun.

Cookie, glad you avoided any accidents, either to the car or yourself, and I’m sure if the lady could have heard it she would have been appropriately abashed.

Nettie, idiots going to idiot. Glad for your sake that you are a responsible driver.

Alrighty, 1:30 in the PM, so may toss on a shirt and head over to the gym for some afternoon sweating. Take care all.

So a bunch of people called out, so Smalls was running half staffed.
SSLAW Whisperer: “So many people called out, Imma gonna put Shaggy up there with you.”
Me: “Thank God I bought a fifth of gin last night.”
I managed to not kill him for the half a shift till I got sent over to the 100 and 200 Slides. Which at that point were disasters. So some time later, they sent R over to help me. Luckily she’s competent, so she cleaned up the 200 slide. Which was good, because I had to put all the rescans up on the rollers, up on the table, and in the cages(the sent all the PT sups home when they hit their 5 hour guarantee. at 0900.). So 8 hours and a reboxed 100lbs. kiddie pool after I started, I left. So I’m having a frozen pizza and a beer for lunch.
Also, today was Hazardous Ken’s last day before he goes to Mebane. Followed by a bunch of other people at the end of next week when Midnight closes down.

We’re all a lot closer than you think. {{{{Coppertone}}}}

Me: < opens front door >
Spot: < looks out. > “Good God, man! When was the last time you vacuumed in there?!?”

Cookie, Nettie, glad you avoided the idiots. I have so many people running red lights on my way to work(at 0Dark30), I’ve found myself stopping at green lights.

Enjoy Panama, Pilot! And hope things get better for BB.

Doggio said it much better than I could. And, as shoe mentioned, class sure ain’t about money.
I do hope your fortunes turn around soonest, Coppertone. You will always be one of us.

Got in 35 minutes of ellipticalling this morning while the missus had her water aerobics class, then did a couple easy sidestroke laps in the cee-mint pond to cool down. Chillin’ at home now. It’s only supposed to get to 106° today, so much cooler.

Bless you. Love you platonically.:green_heart:

I thought it turned out pretty well, considering I didn’t know what I was doing.

Thanks. To save anyone else the googling, here’s the jacket.

And I used it today. I’m making pot roast tomorrow, so I rode down to the supermarket for some red potatoes, carrots, and mushrooms.

The idiocy level here is so high I look both ways on one-way streets or in roundabouts.

@Tatars: I may not have said it, or may not have said it well, but you starting to think about a job change fills me with happy for you. I wasted nearly a decade in a job I hated surrounded by goofballs, saboteurs, and pyschos.

Your various day-at-work reports are triggering for me. I don’t mean by that to suggest you change your reporting for my benefit. I mean to suggest DANGER WILLma TATERs DANGER!! My spidey sense is tingling more like a serious electric shock at the risks to your psyche those bozos are imposing on you.

Yaay for cute toes. Pampering is always good for the soul in whatever form we each enjoy.

Aye, there’s the rub. That’s a tough circle to square I agree. Best of luck.

Wow. What a different universe. I have never lived anywhere where I had the slightest choice on what trash / recycling services are provided at what price. Yo’ pays yo’ taxes (or condo / apartment fees) and you put up with what you get. TIL.

Towards the end, we’d find MIL’s freezer open every time we stopped by. Which was every 10-14 days. I jettisoned the food once, caught hell for it, and left her to operate as she chose. Of course since it wasn’t at my house I didn’t need to eat whatever had been in that freezer or attached fridge. you have a tougher problem. I’d never seen the gizmo’s Nettie is pushing. Sounds like a probably solution net of her whining.

I feel your pain. Really and truly. That doth sucketh mightily.

At the risk of a dumb question, are those the same tracks?

Often there’s a well-used main line and some other old nearly abandoned tracks. Prior to the advent of out “high speed” rail, we had a line used only by 4 or 6 freights per day. Nice shiny rails.

OTOH, these were through freights w 2 or 3 locos towing 100-plus cars across dead-flat FL. At 40-60mph. If you’ve got a little doodlebug of one loco and 6 cars doddering to a factory someplace, the rails could stay a lot rustier. Any thoughts @The_Stainless_Steel_Rat? You’re a railfan - sorta.

Yaay for shiny new terlits. I told the tale of my shiny new seat a bit ago. Not as exciting, but far cheaper. Wish I could replace the stool I’ve got with a genuine Toto. A guy as full of s**t as I am needs a machine that can swallow a 40# sandbag without choking. Sadly the apartment’s rig is not that.

I grew up in So Cal. My 8 years in USAF put a mils OK/TX accent in me; As you well know that’s the official USAF accent. Despite 10 years in Vegas after USAF, my subsequent 20 years in St. Louis have me often sounding pretty midwestern despite having grown up on the Pacific beach. Maybe more in choice of idioms, expressions, and slang than in outright pronunciation.

My accent contrasts a LOT with the vaguely NY-or-something that’s oh so common around here.

I’m sure you’ll pick up some WV accent and terminology. But no - nobody will ever mistake you for a native. That shit needs to be injected in the womb.

I suspect that, like me, you have found your comfy spot for the duration. That sounds so lovely and so “you”.

That made my teeth hurt just reading it. I can’t imagine the horror … the horror. Tear it down!

So she’s not quite the meanie you made her out to be. She seems to understand you pretty well. Congrats on a long and happy time with a happy person.

Now thereby hangs a tale.

I know somebody who’s ex-wife is a Chinese chick here in the states who ran a string of massage parlors. Absolute psychopath. Her (Chinese) women workers were for exploiting like livestock, and the customer men were for extracting money from. For massages, for prostitution, and then for extortion. Not a nice person. At all.

I’ve certainly posted about it before, but in 4 minutes flat I can make a hot breakfast of poached egg(s), toast, PB, yogurt, & fruit. Takes longer to eat than it does to prepare. When you’re done you have one dirty small ramekin-thingy and one dirty teaspoon. Period.

It makes a darn healthy and well balanced lunch or dinner too. If you want the secrets let me know.

The owner of this place is named Wu.

Wu Hu?

Hit [Send] too soon on previous post again. Ouch. Here’s the rest:

Yes. And she needs some pretty in her life to offset the myriad difficulties.

This. Totally this.

I deal with moneyed folks regularly and most are low-class animals with bloated oversized wallets and an oversized noxious attitude to match. I’d much rather deal with someone of humble wallet and fine deep character. Such as e.g. Shoe and Coppertone.

Late is so much better than never and also better than on-time.

Despite having lived there for three-plus years way back when I agree that’s a bit much. Back then one of the sayings was you could tell a native or a military somebody in their third year there by the fact they could walk thought a thundering downpour without the slightest sign of perturbment. No hurrying, no thought to shield their head, just strolling along contentedly in the waterfall-like deluge. BTDT. Still can when necessary. Which it occasionally is here.

Now in my apartment I keep the temp 3-4F warmer than HL did in ours (read “hers” I was permitted to sleep in and pay for, but not influence much less control) and suddenly I’m not miserable every minute I’m home. Gettting or staying dressed is 100% optional and I love that.

Flyboy thanks for the catio pix & explanation. I’d been wondering just how extensive a construction this was. Very nicely done.

Damn, I miss fireflies. One of the many awesome things about the Midwest. OTOH, we have these really neat noisy frogs at night on warm nights. As in “most of them.” They’re sort of audio fireflies. As Gary Larsen put it so memorably “Hey bay-bee. Hey Bay-bee!”.

Yowza! Good on ya for avoiding disaster.

You too.

All y’all be careful out there. And it’s a-gittin worse.

TODs and will(s) are plenty for a person (or couple) with a simple financial set-up and simple family situation, whether their assets be great or small.

One of the values of a trust is dealing with the case of incapacitation. Once I’m fully detached from HL that will be Job One for me. Right now your bro will be able to easily deal with your death. Good on ya for that much, which is far more than most people bother to pre-arrange.

But who and how will anyone deal with you having a severe stroke and suddenly being a drooling idiot who can’t walk or talk but can breath another 10 years? Ugly scenario to contemplate, but far worse to live through without a plan than with one. As a soon-to-be single childless man of increasing age that is much on my mind.

You hide your non-expertise very well. Seriously - I fancied myself quite a serious DIYer back in the day and that came out great!

Nope. Neither she nor her predecessor has ever done that. I do miss the good old days when I only went to see a doctor once a year, to get a new round of prescriptions for my meds (though he always insisted on doing a physical while I was there, too). I’ve spent more time with doctors and nurses in the last five years than in the previous twenty years total.
