(Old) Waiting for an Update in the MMP

Galas or Fujis for me, though I occasionally I spend the big bucks and get Honeycrisps.

Haven’t seen that at the Aldi here, but the commissary has been selling take-and-bake bread for the last few months.

First time I ever went into a skid was on a snowy freeway, and I was heading directly toward a cop car. I’d only been driving for six months or so, but I’d heard “steer into the skid” so often in the preceding years that I did it without thinking. Missed him by several feet.

How big was that Manhattan??

I’m 5’10. Last April I weighed around 245 pounds. Went off my diet whilst having the arthritis problems last month, but the bathroom scale has still been saying around 202.

Speaking of arthritis… I’ve been pain-free for the last week, and it’s been clear, NOS weather. Woke up to an aching hip – and grey skies – this morning. Took a 625mg Tylenol arthritis pill and it worked fine, but a few hours later the knee started up again, too, and that called for oxycodone. :frowning: Hope this isn’t going to happen every time it raiins…

Someone I know is now in the ICU due to sepsis from a bladder infection. He is “already more coherent,” but anything I should know about prognosis for this kind of thing?

Were the truck nuts at half staff? I hope that your trip gets better.

They don’t for dogs either.

Happy anniversary to you and MusicMan and Gotcha skritches to Annie.

Awww. I know your family will miss him.

Irked up front today. Deliver us, oh Lord, from people who cannot follow simple packing instructions with the envelope provided. I likely used a box knife on close to half a roll of duct tape that was used to seal over the tear strip meant to make processing simple on our end. Then, there are the ijits who staple the damn things shut just in case, causing owies for anyone opening said envelope. Oh, well, back to my area tomorrow.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Antique grizzled nurse here.

IME, since they are starting to respond to treatment in the ICU, that’s quite hopeful. If they aren’t very aged, also good. If they didn’t go into sepsis already stressed by other chronic diseases like diabetes or heart failure again hopeful.

Things that might be tricky: advanced age, like late 70s and older, poorly managed preexisting conditions including dementia, their general state of health and social connectedness before the sepsis.

That was a lot of ‘ifs’. Sorry, sepsis is like that. The worst thing about sepsis is how silent and sneaky it can be, especially the older one is. In the future your friend needs to be on the alert for subtle changes and get themselves to a doc to be assessed for infection and impending sepsis. It helps if people around them who know them well (have a good baseline) are watchful for subtle changes in cognition, mood and alertness and mobilize getting them care sooner rather than later. Especially if they live alone.

Thanks for the info! He is not of advanced age, and I know little about his chronic medical conditions. He’s a bit of a weirdo and a little self absorbed at times, but not demented or anything, as far as I can tell. If I went by just what I knew for sure, I’d assume he’ll be fine.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I really want to try this!

It’s been SS, DD here. Daughter is coming home on the late train tomorrow so I need to clean her room and change the linens. I better get to it.

Thinking of Cupcake and JtC and including you in my prayer intentions.

Cozmo has been buried in our woods. The vet said he was likely in liver failure, among other things. That helped Daughter feel better about her decision. She was pretty sure it was time, but it’s never easy.

After things settle emotionally and financially, they’ll take the kids to the local shelter and find a new pup. But I expect it will be a few months. Meanwhile, they still have 2 cats (sisters), a turtle, and an aquarium. And Roxy was asking for a hamster. It’s the wild kingdom over there…

A nurse is coming tomorrow to see MIL. There’s some concern about her weight and some medications. I hope to futz outside a bit - weather permitting.

Got my glasses! Not too tight, not too loose.
I hate rain storms.
Tomorrow I go talk to future boss, I hope.

Howfy Y’all! Been home for a while from book study. Needed some chillax time upon arrival at da cave. Spoiled brat was happy to see me cause I brought him some brownies with fudge icin’. Soon I shall betake myself to bed as I’s tahrd!

MOOOOOOM so sorry to hear about Cozmo. No matter how long they are in our lives it’s never enough.

Yanker glad daughter’s skool issues got resolved. Glad sib’s medical problem is manageable. Yay for the new RV and on findin’ a place for it to live.

doggio is spot now practicin’ for the Olympics?

Wheelie I see my regular PCP every three months and get an annual physical from him. This “wellness check” is a joke. Allegedly it’s a check of my cognizance skills and other such stuff, but in reality it is a waste of time. Medicare pays for it, so that is why it is pushed.BB

BB that’s some world class purrin’ by Moxie!

rocker even though the surprise was found out, I bet co-irker really appreciated what y’all did.

Coppertone glad you’re happy with the new specs.

Sunset isn’t until 2111 tonight.

I really wish we’d stay on standard time.

Evening all. Wrote six checks, more than I had written in the last 2.5 months, and sent one paypal to/for various organizations so my major donations are done for the year. Likely will be cashed within a week, most of them don’t fool around in collecting your money. Then got my 1.5 miles of swimming in and feeling pretty good. Ham and cheesers with an evening apple took care of the night meal, so pretty much just internettin’ and readin’ for the balance of the evening. Rain and tunder-boomers are due around 9-10pm, so the lawn will get a good soaking. Signed up to referee 5 games for the Section Tournament in Knoxville 13-15 June, probably will do a couple more but will give the other referees a chance to fill up the slots. Now if the weather is nice…

FCM, my condolences to Daughter and family; even when it’s the best decision it still hurts.

BTW, good on ya for including Roxy in the decision process. Lots of adults will just assume the kid will do whatever they decide; glad you keep them in the loop.

Pilot , I am slightly envious that you can get up and go to Panama or places like that with almost no planning. Enjoy it!! And I presume the commute from LAS to JFK was via air, because driving that 3 times a month would be..contraindicated.

Yanker, Mump whenever you can, but considering your stories maybe we should change your name to Marlon Perkins (for you youngn’s, he was host to a program called “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” in the 60’s and 70’s that was must-see TV on Sundays when I was growing up). Hope daughter’s schedule and sibling’s heart both work out for the best. Enjoy the new RV.

Wheelie, agree with you about swampy getting that checkup. I go every year so they can test my blood and urine, do an EKG and take several X-Rays, all covered by Medicare or my supplemental insurance. So far, so good. And yeah, each year I have to do some Medicare paperwork that is about 14 pages long and wants to know everything. PITA. And glad we have another gym member in good standing. Enjoy planning the baseball trip.

Cat Glove, thanks for the info, so many sites have so many tables, But I am pretty close to the top range for the 6’2". The Government charts say at least now say I’m overweight, but not obese (my BMI is 27.5, need to get to 24.9 according to the CDC (or about 196 lbs) to be in the “Healthy Weight” range)…not in a big hurry to get there, however. Stay safe from the weather.

rocky, sounds like interesting times. Glad you got the glass and even if the 50-year guy (I knew a couple folks like that when I was working; me, 32 years and I was out) figured it out, I’m sure he still appreciated it.

Thanks to all for the Apple recommendations, Will try Fuji and Cosmic Crisp in the next few weeks (between soccer and vacation, not much chance to shop the rest of this month).

Herald, that is an impressive weight loss, congratulations! And hope you have good weather or move to Abu Dhabi (had 3 rainstorms there in 4 years…but summers at 110F).

red, I probably over-tape too (mostly just scotch tape on letters), but never staples.

Coppertone, yeah! for the glasses! Now for the job…

And that concludes the evening report. Will be back with you tomorrow.

I need some help, please. We are in Tulsa OK and need a pet friendly room halfway between here and Chapmanville wv. The internet here sucks and Im coming up empty. Please!!!

Napped. dinner was chicken and cavatappi with salad. And a martini.
Me: < sets martini down on desk >
Spot: <jumps up on desk, loses footing on right rear foot, swishes tail towards martini glass >
Me: :grimacing:
Me: < sips martini, puts glass down >
Spot: < bats at martini glass stem >
Me: “If you spill that, I will yeet you into the Hereafter.”
Spot: “Brrt.”

Tell me about it {{{{FairyChats}}}}

Why? Unless it came from a town that was home to the rival team.

Apparently so.

Congrats on the new specs, Coppertone.

If you’re going the route through St. Louis, I’d think about Salem, IL, near Mt. Vernon. If that suits, there’s a Holiday Inn Express in Salem, phone 1 877 666 3243.

There’s also Comfort Inn & Suites in Carbondale, IL, (618) 529-2720.

Let me know if either of those work. If not, let me know and I’ll keep looking.

You are amazing. TIL that some pet friendly hotels dont allow cats due to allergies and upsetting the dogs. Grrr.

Gee. I can appreciate their concerns, but maybe they could, you know, publish that information on their website!!

Thank you again! Salem was sold out (of course I wanted to stay in salem) so Comfort Inn it is.

Such a relief, being turned away tonight was not fun.

Happy to help, and sorry it was such an unpleasant arrival. I hope the day of travel today was at least a little better.

Glad you’re tucked up safe and sound for the night. Give GG a scritch and go have a smoke!!

Well, OK, when you put it that way, I can’t argue. Carry on.

I learned that back in 2013 when we drove from Chicago to San Francisco with two kitties. We had to make some changes on the fly as well. “Pet Friendly” often just means “Dog Friendly,” as if there are no other pets. I should have warned you before you set out, but didn’t think about it. Sorry. Glad you found a place for tonight.

Moooom, so sorry for your family’s loss. It’s always hard to say goodbye to our furry friends.

Happy Hump Day!

I’m playing catch up. I’m sorry.

Doggio, I was hoping my son would get inspired to drive after sitting for 2.5 hours for a ride home, but no such luck.

JtC, I feel for you driving with a cat. Just taking Adam for the short drive to the vet was miserable.

I am sorry to hear about Cosmo, but that is a long life.

My son has to irk OT this Friday, and possibly Monday too.
I have a doctor’s appointment for Friday, I’ll need to change it.
I already missed last month’s appointment because I was sick. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get a refill on Tramadol without going in.
It also means nothing will get done this weekend because he is going to be exhausted.

Happy Anniversary and gotcha day Sticky
