(Old) What's Your Favorite Ice Cream Cone? - An Inappropriate Winter MMP

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 6c/42f with a predicted high of 7c/45f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This weather is fucking awesome if you just experienced winter, but it’s fucking terrible if summer just ended.” And, of course, partly cloudy means it’s partly sunny!

Moooom scary stuff about FCD’s nosebleed. I’m glad your house no longer resembles a crime scene, hope you managed to get everything cleaned up afterwards.

Nellie I hope you get some relief from your back pain sooner rather than later.

Sounds like it’s well-deserved after a day full of people!

Of course, through snow, probably barefoot, and I’m sure I had to fight off a pack of ravening wolves along the way

Mrs LA is a saint for doing that, it must be utterly heartbreaking.

I’m fortunate to live and work in places that have pretty good transport links so if one fails, I have back-up options. My commute to work is roughly 15 miles at the shortest distance and takes at least 1.5hrs on a good day. It involves a walk to the bus stop, bus to town, walk to the station, train to Big City, train from Big City to campus, and a walk to my building. Any number of things can go wrong!

I am sorry for your daughter, it’s a very good thing she’s been doing. I’m also sorry for you, it is hard keeping a lid on the anger at so much injustice.

That’s a good joke!

She understands your needs, and is doing her best to help you get through a very difficult time. What a little star!

Yesterday’s commute home was a gift from the Travel Gods, so I hope they are still smiling on me today. We are going to Hereford to see our last band of the year (that’s 228 in total for me, ‘im indoors scored a bit higher because he managed to see a few while he was working away from home), and meeting up with some friends.

That means setting up the automated feeders for the cats so that they don’t waste away overnight, as we won’t be home until tomorrow afternoon. We’re not leaving the house until after lunch so the cats will have had breakfast, second breakfast and lunch already  For now, it’s time to drink more tea and think about what I need to do before we leave.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 37 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 65 and sunny. I shall spend the day watchin’ kolledge football playoff games off and on. The one I am most interested in is Sippimissi and Tulane as my DAWGS will play the winner of that game in the quarterfinals. Outside of that it will be the usual RDOS inactivities. Any need to feed will be via forage as we have leftovers that need to get et as well as plenty of sammich makin’s.

I am glad my semi-awful joke amused some of you. It could have been worse. I could have made a joke about how Queen Victoria occasionally enjoyed Prince Albert in the can. Perhaps I really should go sit in the corner and feel shame.

MOOOOOOM I hope FCD’s nosebleed was a one off thing.

Nellie so sad about daughter’s job. I have unkind feelings as well about cuttin’ food aid to those in need. Hope your back is feelin’ better.

JtC not a gamer myself, but good on you for doin’ that for hubs. Also, N.O.T. candy is a nostalgic thing wherein one piece is enough. IMO it’s a weird texture thing. After a big event that involves the necessity of bein’ social, I always need recovery time.

MetalMouse hope the little crumbsnatchers don’t wear you out too much.

BooFae have a safe and fun trip.

{{{BBBoo}}} you always have us. We need reminders from our favorite all time night nurse. Glad Moxie is there to comfort you.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then onward into the day! Rah. Those kolledge football playoffs aren’t goin’ to watch themselves now are they?

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

Saturday onwards!

I don’t know the numbers, but he is on BP meds. And he sent a message to our GP, so we’ll see what she has to say.

Oh, we are. I’ll be very surprised if he’s not told to make an immediate appointment. Luckily, no repeat last night.

Today has started at 27 Ferrets and we won’t get out of the 40s at best. our original plan was to do some boat work early, but FCD is selling off some stuff he doesn’t use and a guy is coming this morning to buy (we hope) the CNC plasma cutter. No interest yet in the 3D printer and accessories and he hasn’t posted his Harley yet. I’m glad he’s finally realizing that these things are just taking up space and he’ll never use them (again) and the cash will allow him to do some more stuff on the boat. He hasn’t been able to ride his bike in close to 5 years. Unfortunately, every one of those years saw the value drop and the need for maintenance rise. But I hope it’ll move quickly. This may be the wrong time of year.

Daughter and her crew are coming for dinner. I’ll be ordering from the deli - it’s been a long time since we’ve had their fried chicken dinner, and it’s an easy feed. I’ll even make her go pick it up and save the $10 delivery fee/tip because I can.

Speaking of $10 - I want to get a few Powerball tickets. I could use $1.5 billion - then I could afford to replace our bedroom carpet. Pffffft - with that kind of money, I’d be inclined to bulldoze our house and build something less 1975-vintage. But I’m not drawing up floorplans… yet…

So, today should be a relatively chill day, and if I venture outside, it’ll be a substantial chill. Adventure (or not) awaits!!

Happy Saturday!!

Showered, dressed, and back from Food Lion. I got 3 Powerball tickets because I had $6 and I wasn’t going to use the $20. No matter - I know one of them is the winner, the other 2 are just for fun. I do need to find a lawyer and an accountant to help me deal with my winnings, but that can wait till Moanday.

And I bought the makin’s for green bean casserole, even tho I hate hate hate any recipe that calls for cream-of-anything soup. Yes, I’m a snob that way. But FCD requested it and since I’m nice, dammit…

Too early for lunch and too early to start a fire downstairs, so I guess I need to read for a while. Better than dusting!

At the gym awaiting my start of the next session with the U12 players, I have been referring their scrimmages the past couple of weeks to keep me busy. Season starts after New Year so after this I’ll have a couple weeks off. And have to stop, game is ready to start

Good morning.

It’s raining and 41°F outside. The forecast calls for showers throughout the day, with a high of 44°F. I actually saw a patch of blue sky for a tiny bit yesterday, but then the rain returned.

Nellie, I’m so sorry about your daughter’s job. I, too, have many bad thoughts about the cause. I hope she can find something she loves equally well.

I used to game with my husband, too. We played Diablo and then moved on to World of Warcraft. We played others, but those two were the mainstays. Our kids played WoW, too, and we often ran together in-game, even though we were all in different guilds. However, we burned out; it became annoying because people were getting nasty during runs, and it just wasn’t fun anymore. I haven’t played any PC games in years. My husband still plays both PC games and, of course, still plays VR games. He likes to play Microsoft Flight Simulator on the VR headset, and enjoys his racing game as well.

BBBoo, I’m sending you hugs. I’m glad your kitty was able to provide comfort.

I must go out in public today. Mr. Taters wants to go out for lunch or dinner, and I never ran my errands yesterday. I, too, could use 1.5 billion smackaroos, so I’ll throw a twenty at the attempt to win.

I was forced to watch the stupid Jake Paul “boxing” (yeah, right) match on Netflix last. I can’t stand that guy or his stupid brother. First of all, it was all just a bunch of ridiculous hype. The women’s boxing match was set up in such a sexist way. Why do we need to see them in bad-taste clothing, exiting fancy cars, strutting around in high heels, instead of showing fight excerpts like the male boxers? It was just sickening. The women’s match was decent, I guess. The main event should have been over in two rounds, but it was dragged out to six. The idiot lost, but still. I told my husband I’m never watching another Netflix “sporting” event. They’re a joke.

Ugh.

I suppose I should hop in the shower. You all take care of yourselves.

I felt a little better today. Which is good, because I had a 3 car 800 piece set to load. We were done by 0845.
< comes home >
< blows nose >
< looks at Kleenex >
< briefly concerned I ejected my prefrontal cortex >
I also almost hacked a loogie into my bacon( not to be confused with Håkan Loob, the hockey player with the best name ever).

Laundry is done, so I shall nap till hockey and pro handegg.

Spot would be an emotional wreck.

With lost of faux gold ornamentation?

I’m still playing my Atari 2600 games.

Happy Saturday all - it’s been dry, warm, and windy here. The local weather wizards predict we’ll make a run for 80f/27c on Christmas day, which is quite frankly ridiculous. We don’t often have snow for Christmas, but tank top and flip flop weather is a bit much.

And in (good?) news, it looks like my home purchase is going to go through! The inspections came back really clean I felt considering it’s a ~75 year old house. It already has piers in the foundation but the structural engineer recommends installing a French drain. And all of the windows are original - one doesn’t open, a couple won’t stay open, etc. So a couple of $$ items that need to be done but aren’t emergencies.

I’m waiting to hear back from the seller today. We’re only $2k apart on numbers and I doubt either of us would walk away at this point but you never know… At any rate, I’ll know if I need to start packing or not here pretty soon!

Nellie I’m sorry about your daughter’s job. I hope she’s able to find something else quickly.

BBBoo that has got to be a lot to process during an already busy time. I at least enjoy your posts and have learned from you

Oh I’ve just been notified that I’m going out with a friend to a new bookstore this afternoon and have 20 minutes to be ready to leave the house. Yikes!

Them’s fightin’ words, boy! I may not be much of a decorator, but I know crap when I see it.

The guy buying FCD’s plasma table is here. So I’m keeping the doofus dog inside. Yep, excitement abounds!

We finished dog school today. She was less of a brat, didn’t slip her harness, but tried, many times.

Overslept this morning, and was awakened at 0815 by an indignant Sadie asking just where in the hell her breakfast was. Got her fed and then spent a half hour trying to un-fog my brain. Managed to toast a bagel and scramble some eggs for us hoomans. Getting a late start always throws off my day, so here I am at noon, feeling like I’m still not all here.

Watched Kimmel’s interview of Kamala Harris. We really missed the boat by not electing her.

Looked at hot plates on Amazon. I’d like to be able to keep food warm at the table for our NYD bash without people having to go into the kitchen for it. Sadly, the bad reviews on those things are really bad. Then it occurred to me that I have my Brod & Taylor proofing box, which can also be used as a slow cooker/warming plate. Problem solved!

It’s warmed up a bit, but with a wind. At least the forecast for Christmas eve is for decent weather, so our guests will be coming as planned. I still have to buy a few things, but nothing serious. There should be six of us, which is manageable.

Glad you’re enjoying it!

I bought myself a tea advent calendar (from Sonnentor) and am enjoying lots of different teas, most of which are herbal. Today’s tea is peppermint and it is much better quality than my store-brand stuff. Might have to change.

Now I’m not sure if I should send in the clones or the clowns. Anyway, I’ve got the ear worm.

Within Switzerland, some allowed connections are only 4 minutes. Depends on the train station. Sounds like a nice ride - will that be before your cruise? We were in Nice in April 2018, supposedly for a long weekend to escape the cold in Switzerland. The cold followed us - I think it was the coldest spring in years.

Thank you for the reminder. Some years ago we had a yellow lentil soup with coconut milk at a restaurant in Amsterdam, and keep meaning to try some recipes. Recently I tried a dried lentil soup mix and discovered that the red lentils were almost yellow after cooking, so I think I’ll try some red lentils.

Yesterday was my last day of work for 2025. We have two weeks off, so I’ve been writing down ideas for cooking and baking. Hubby has requested the powder sugar coated chocolate cookies from @JaneDoe42, so that’s on the list. I’ll be making split pea with sausage soup and who knows what else.

Today I made French toast for breakfast, we went to 2 different grocery stores and then walked to town. Scored some gingerbread peeps and peppermint peeps and then we had authentic Italian pizza for lunch. Tomorrow might be a bit less exciting, especially as we have to get up at normal work time on Monday because hubby’s got a doctor’s appointment at 8:30.

Hugs for @BippityBoppityBoo - glad Moxie’s taking care of you.

Afternoon all. Refereed about two hours of soccer then came home and baked several pieces of Cheese Bread from the freezer to hold me until tonight. More soccer (with the 6-7 year old littles) goes from 1-4pm and I’ll be up there for that. Only other thing on the to do list today is wrap presents, which are pretty easy since they are all gift cards in small boxes. Temperature is 55F and the clouds have all gone away, but still trying to warm up some, guess all these years down South have drained my cold-weather reserves.

AH, the Leroy Jenkins school of gaming…(for those few who may not get the reference…Leeroy Jenkins | Memes | Dictionary.com)

BBBoo, hooray for Moxie giving you what you need. And having a large and loving family around you…even if the time is marked by tragedy…has to be a wonderful feeling.

We try, dear lady; we try.

boo fae, most Americans would not be able to conceive of that commute without using their car. Not to mention in 90% of the USA it would be impossible anyway. Someday we’ll grow up…and 228 bands in one year; maybe not a record but an impressive performance nonetheless.

FCM, hope the sales go well and I have a few Powerball tickets of my own, so maybe we’ll split the prize 50/50 (hey, $750M ain’t too bad…)

Taters, not a big boxing fan, but hearing that Jake Paul got knocked out (and his jaw broken) did bring a smile to my face…he’s a farce IMHO.

I know the feeling all too well…

52, Hooray for the home purchase, hope all the details get settled and you can start planning the move-in. And we’re supposed to be around 70F on Xmas…which even for N. Ali-bama is ridiculous. Enjoy the book browsing.

VanGo, conga-rats for completing dog school, albeit it sounds like a refresher course may be in your future…

No, after (it begins in Libson and ends in Nice). And enjoy the time off!

And time to get myself rearranged and head over to the gym to coach and referee the littles. Catch y’all later tonight.

Where are you located? That sounds like the prediction for Houston.

Happy dog skool graduation, Peaches!

Lunch followed the printout, but when they listed banana pudding, I was disappointed that it wasn’t ‘nanner puddin’.

Sis is feeling better today. Day before yesterday, BIL had a belly bug. Apparently, he gave her an early Xmas present. Looks like another day and a half until I can blow this popsicle stand.

my “Cream of Mushroom” starts with sliced cremini mushrooms and red shallots sautéed in butter until the mushrooms are almost done. Add flour and stir to make a roux and then add a bit of chicken stock, then milk, whisking until it comes to a soft boil and thickens to suit your recipe. Salt and pepper to taste

Yay!!!

I ordered my new recliner today. It, and the third party assembler will be be here 30 December. I went a little over budget on it, but nothing Xmas money won’t cover. Other than that, it’s been a quiet day in jail rehab.

I almost cried at work today.

On weekends I open the place (doggy daycare) but we have shorter hours so I end up being there for a few hours before opening doing extra cleaning. When two of the coaches (daycare attendants) showed up I was elbow deep in potty pad scrubbing. These are two great kids; almost literally. I think they are 19 and 20 respectively. Ash is this goth girl with a heart of gold who loves my dog, doesn’t take any shit and does a great job and Louis also does a great job but he also has impeccable taste in music. He listens to what his dad listens to, which is what I listen to, so we have this schtick where I award him points for what I catch him listening to. Points for Springsteen, Pixies and Lou Reed; points off for The Cure and the The Smiths.

Anyhoo … they pull me aside - as I’m still wearing rubber gloves and holding a scrub brush - and they say they have something for me. They hand me a hand made Christmas card that says how much they appreciate me as a cow-orker and for being a generally cool guy with a gift card attached for $50 at my favorite pizza place and a tug-o-war toy for Bob … who was with me at work this morning (trying not to cry right now, those fucking guys).

I literally thought they were joking at first - I was really taken aback and so appreciative. I wanted to hug them but I didn’t think that would fly at work. Maybe, but still. So fucking nice. I’m still gob-snacked.

Peace reigns again! Between the grands and Trevor rasslin’ with Otis, it was a bit of a madhouse here. They headed out to look at lights in a neighborhood known for its displays. I figure Otis will crash in no time. I know I want to.

Roxy will be spending the night on Moanday, saving SIL a trip to pick her up. That’s fine - she’s an easy overnight guest. Not sure what tomorrow holds - we’ll see when we see.

Till then, I’m going to collapse in my recliner.
