Older Dopers: What Senior Discounts Kick In At What Age?

Kroger senior discount on Tuesday. I think it’s 50 and above. It’s part of the super saver card.

When you turn 64 they’re going to up it to 75.

The granddaddy of them all (no pun…well, OK): AARP membership starts at age 50, and has a hige range of discounts. I’m not there yet, but my parents swear by it.

I started asking for senior discounts at fast food places in my 40s. Nobody ever questioned it. If you look older than the counter-girls mother (36 or so), you are a senior citizen. They just prsss the senior button on the cash register

What is McDonald’s age for being a senior?

I think this might be local, since a search turned up a local paper story about it. There is nothing on the Safeway.com site, and we are pretty friendly with some of the checkers and they never mentioned it. But if you have a link it would be cool.

Whatever you say it is. That’s my point.

Official age? Don’t know.

No link - my neighbor mentioned it to me, and indeed it’s the case at all my local Safeways. I’ve never seen it advertised anywhere.

It beats those fuckers at Fred Meyer: senior discount on the first Thursday of the month only, and then only on their crappy store brand foods. We don’t shop there anymore.

In Japan, if either person of a married couple is over age 50, then both get movie admission for 2000yen total (US$20.00). This is usually good for any movie performance including IMAX screenings except for3-D.

A typical single adult ticket costs about US$18.00 (US$24.00 for IMAX 3-D).

Regarding “Senior Menu” discounts - do check the prices. Last time I was in Bob Evans, which has been some time, there was exactly ZERO difference in prices on the Over-55 page. They were simply the smaller-portion options for typical breakfasts, so 2 pancakes instead of 3, for example.

My husband is nearly 3 years younger than I am, but his hair and beard are more gray than brown while I have nary a gray hair yet (no, I don’t color - it’s genetics) and he’s been offered senior discounts for years. I don’t usually think to ask - not vanity, just don’t think about it. I probably should, tho… I’ll turn 60 in January, but most discounts don’t seem to hit till 62 or 65. At least most I’ve noticed.
