Older Dopers: What Senior Discounts Kick In At What Age?

I’ve been ordering off the Senior Menu at Denny’s since age 55, and I’m looking forward to getting my $10 lifetime pass to the National Parks when I turn 62. Maryland, where I live, has the same deal for its state parks at age 62+.

So what other good senior discounts are out there, and at what ages do they kick in?

In Missouri at age 65 you don’t need to buy a hunting or fishing license. I guess that’s a 100% discount. Still need a deer or turkey tag though.

In Ontario at 65yrs (hubby not I), you get drug benefits, you have to fill out a form. Basically your dispensing fees drop to $2, and anything over a couple hundred bucks, in a calendar year, is covered by the provincial benefits program. Everyone qualifies by being 65, but it gets clawed back if your income is high.

Just do a Google search for senior discounts:

An Alta seasons pass drops almost in half at age 65. At 80 it drops to $49/year, a savings of $1150.

MacDonald’s gives a senior discount if you say you are a senior, sight unseen. Wanna make something of it? I’ll kick your ass off my lawn!

Safeway supermarkets have a 10% senior discount (age 55 and older!) on Thursday mornings.

Admission to the Milwaukee Summerfest for seniors 60 and over is only $5. You youngsters have to pay $16. Nyaa nyaa. :stuck_out_tongue:

Although the younger generations are unaware of this fact, at age 65 all seniors receive a government issued and sanctioned debit card with which we make all purchases including food, entertainment, medical co-payments, gambling losses and all luxuries and necessities such as pot, beer, whiskey, gigolos and/or hookers along with associated sexual enhancement products. All charges are added to the National Debt and we pay no taxes.

DISCLAIMER

If you are younger than 65, disregard this post and pay your taxes!

What’s an ‘Alta seasons pass’?

Alberta? Atlanta? Seasons pass to what?

It’s a season pass to the Alta ski area in Utah. People over 80 used to ski for free, but the bastards clamped down on that now.

Amtrak gives passengers 62 and over a 15% discount (10% for 60+ on cross-border trains). There are some restrictions, and the discount applies to the base fare only — not upgrades or sleeping accommodations.

I’m not sure what the rationale is — I doubt that it became 15% cheaper to haul my carcass around when I turned 62 — but I appreciate it.

The golf courses I play at all have “senior rates” on weekdays (some start at 60, some start at 62), and the bowling alley I frequent has weekday daytime senior rates.

Basically both types of enterprises are set up to maximize their facilities during their peak intervals (weekends for golf courses, weekends/evenings for bowling alleys) and have plenty of open slots otherwise that they need to fill.

Another tax deduction at 65. And here in Virginia you get a big break on taxes at 65 if I remember correctly for that time I did my parents taxes. I’m pushing toward 60 and can’t think of a single discount I’ve ever gotten for my feeble old self, so I’m reading this with interest.

That national parks pass is one of the best deals out there. Not only does it get you into the parks for free, it also gets you half price camping in all Forest Service campgrounds.

SHUT UP!!! They DO??? I will go to Dominick’s TODAY and check it out. With my husband. Who is 55 (almost).

I know the Eurofresh down the street has it on Tuesdays - I was once extremely annoyed when they gave it to me (I’m 40 something or other) but then I noticed that they were giving it to everybody so I didn’t feel so bad.

ETA - AMC Theaters have a senior discount. Found this out when a friend of ours went to see some movie and was tickled pink about it.

I just went on a motorcycle road trip where we hit multiple National Parks, and those $10 and $12 hits added up. But other than that, I can’t think of a single time I’ve visited more than one park in a multiyear span. I guess if you want to spend your retirement RV’ing - it’s a good deal.

At 65, bus and Metro fares get halved.

Dang, the millennials must be green with envy.

Ross has a senior discount on Tuesdays.

In Texas at age 65 and older you can attend public colleges (state and community college) and pay NO TUITION.
