1. How long have you had your "best friend(s)?"
I dunno, right now my “best friend” is my spouse (almost 20 years). Most of the others are married couples or old friends from school.
2. Also, to expand beyond “best friends” what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)?
See below.
3. How many people from grade school or younger are you regularly in contact with?
Just one. My “oldest” friend was actually assigned to be my friend in the fifth grade. She had just moved here and was a bit of a square peg, and I had few friends and none that I saw outside school. We were best friends for several years when we were in school, lost contact for a bit, and now e-mail quite a bit and see each other once or twice a year.
4. How many people from high school are you regularly in contact with?
That friend, and one other one occasionally. High school pretty much sucked for me, and there aren’t many people from that era I’d even want to contact, maybe two or three others.
5. Finally, what is your age.
40.
Mr. S has me beat for “oldest friend”: he still regularly talks to a friend he met when they were 5 years old – and their birthdays are 2 days apart. He’s 52.
2. Also, to expand beyond “best friends” what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)?
The same. My family moved away a few hundred miles in the summer of 1984 and I lost contact with my grade school friends.
3. How many people from grade school or younger are you regularly in contact with?
None (see answer to #2).
4. How many people from high school are you regularly in contact with?
A few. My immediate group of friends (and now their wives and children as well) are my friends from high school. It is a small town - we were pretty tight back then and are still pretty tight now.
I live about 30 miles outside of my hometown and we do all of our shopping there so I run into other high school classmates with some regularity. There wasn’t a large population of college-bound students and many of them are still local.
1. How long have you had your "best friend(s)?"
41 years, although we’re best friends in name only. I moved 1500 miles away, a decade ago. We’re more strangers now than anything, and an incident earlier this year probably put an end to it permanently.
2. …what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)?
Until this year, it would have been the same guy as above. Now, I have to say that it’s five years, for my current best friend.
3. How many people from grade school or younger are you regularly in contact with?
4. How many people from high school are you regularly in contact with?
None.
As with some people in the other thread, I don’t feel that I have any ‘best’ friends’, so there’s no answer to question 1.
One of my colleagues is someone I’ve known since we were about ten. Since working together over the past couple of years, we’ve gone from being acquaintances to being pretty good friends.
None. (We’re excluding random Facebook contact, I presume.)
Somewhere from three to six, if ‘regular contact’ is more than once a month, although there’s a larger group of 15-20 who make an effort to meet up with each other a couple of times a year.

How many people from high school are you regularly in contact with?
Finally, what is your age.
I have 2 best friends (not including my husband, who really is my true best friend.) The first one - we’ve been friends since 1990, then we dated for a few years, then went back to being friends. So 17 years for him. The second - I met her in 1998. So 9 years.
Aside from the father of my kids ( we’ve known each other for 27 years and speak to each other at least once a week), I think my ex-bf is the longest. - 17 years. We also speak to each other about once a week.
2. Also, to expand beyond “best friends” what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)?
I wouldn’t consider her my best friend… but I have known a girl I use to work with 7 years ago. Though I think we are to different from me to consider her even a good friend.

1. How long have you had your “best friend(s)?” Plural for me. I don’t really grok the Best Friend thing. I tend more towards friends with a capital F, friends with a little f, and aquaintances. 2. Also, to expand beyond “best friends” what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)? Straight Steve has been my best Friend since grade school, Linda since Jr. High, Gay Steve since High School, Vicky since college, and Best known each other only since full-fledged grown-ups friends are Zaina, Heather, and Becki. I refer to them all, as a group, as family once removed. 3. How many people from grade school or younger are you regularly in contact with? Three. 4. How many people from high school are you regularly in contact with?
Probably 20.
Finally, what is your age.
Note that I still live in the same town I grew up in, and have lived here my whole life. I’d assume moving away would knock a lot of people’s numbers down.
Every so often, I refer to a gay guy who’s one of my oldest and dearest friends. I’ve just realized I’ve known him for 32 years!
He’s pretty much it.
Just those two. I had a rough time of it in high school and deliberately skipped my recent 25 year reunion. I’m in touch with the ones I want to be in touch with and they’re the best of the bunch.
I’m the same age as MadPansy64, although that number (and a couple of others in this post) seem high. I shouldn’t have known these people that long!
How long have you had your “best friend(s)?”
I can’t think of anyone I’d call my best friend right now. The closest thing may be my ex-husband, who I’ve known since 1994.
Also, to expand beyond “best friends” what is the longest you have known someone whom you are in contact with regularly (say >5X/yr)?
Tough one. I can’t think of any non-relative that I’ve kept in regular touch with for very long.
