Oldest SDMB-compatible browser software

I’m bored and out of sorts…my division chief just quit so all today’s appointments are cancelled. OK, just for the heck of it, I’m going to see what is the most ancient browser I can use to get here and post a message.

Mosaic for Macintosh v. 2.0.5, © 1985

Don’t you mean 1995?

:embarrassed:

I do indeed mean 1995. NOT 1985. Geez!

MS Internet Explorer for Windows NT ver 2.0

(1996)

Damnit.

I tried lynx - good, old-fashioned, text-only no graphics I spit on your mouse support lynx.

I tried to post, and it complained that I wasn’t cookied. No problem, I thought, and went ahead with logging in. Fortunately I remembered my password. Back to this thread I went, and it complained again, even though the index page welcomed me by name, so the cookie was set.

It made me cry that I couldn’t post through Lynx.

Fooey. Two defeats in a row.
America Online no longer allows version 2.x to log on at all, and the affiliated browser won’t work unless AOL is logged on.

I did get here to this thread in Mosaic 1.0.3 (1994) but even when I cheated (stealing the URLs from a more modern browser to establish that I was logged on–something I couldn’t do in Mosaic 1 due to nowhere to type the username and password), I could not get the board to accept me as a person with legitimate posting privileges from Mosaic 1. An era before cookies?

I’ve got a NeXTStation sitting here that I have to get hooked up to the home network. Once I figure it out, I’ll try WorldWideWeb.app (1990!) and see if I can get in.

Right now I’m on Netscape Navigator 2.02 , copyright 1995.
