OMG I'm on the front page of Fine Art America!

Once, when I was at the AGO in Toronto for the Andy Warhol exhibit, trying to make since of some of the other paintings, outside of the Warhol stuff, a very artsy woman walked up to me and started staring at the same painting I was looking at. She was so cool, man. She had the long black hair, and the chunky jewelry of silver and turquois. She said, while looking straight ahead, “You can always tell a good artist by the way they paint hands. Hands are extraordinarily difficult, because they are much larger in comparison to the rest of the body than a lot of artists realize.” Then she just walked away. I felt artsier for just having had her share that with me.

I rambled all of that to say I think she would appreciate your hand in that picture.

I actually liked all of the pics they chose for the cover except two of them. Good job and congrats.

Shibby Baby, Shibby…

I’m so proud of you and ever stunned by the strange beauty and realism of your paint. Many good things to come. I wish you well, congratulate, and thank you for your order. Your thought and beauty in your particular order.

Hell, your art is striking… that is why it is marketed in the first and prominent. The colors really got you that page.

That’s fantastic! Congratulations!

Well done.

I would suggest you get a screenshot or “cached page” (or whatever it’s called) of that. Not sure how it works exactly, but it would be good to have for the future.

Good luck!

I told you so!

With IE, it’s “File”, then “Save”.

Oh don’t worry, I took a screenshot and saved it in Photoshop within about 10 seconds of seeing it! As well as the second tab on that page that shows buying images as gifts.

I love that painting too. Congratulations!

If I had the money, I would so buy your “Under Cover” piece… I don’t really even have the cash for a print, but perhaps one day!

Aw thanks! Yeah everyone seems to be strapped these days

The prints also aren’t even the full size, though. If I ever have the money to spare for a print, I’d like it to be the full 24x30", not shrunk. I have the perfect place for it, but it needs to be large, to not look silly on the wall I have in mind. Is that a limitation of Fine Art America, or is there another reason for that?

Maybe when my birthday rolls around… or next Christmas. I’m a student, though… I don’t expect to have money to spare for a few more years!

The limitations at FAA are because of the size file they let me upload and I’m not willing to have something printed higher than the resolution would look good.

I’m also hoping that people will buy the prints from my website (linked from my profile at FAA) instead. The FAA ones are print-on-demand and shipped from the company and are both smaller and cheaper and are really for a different market… The ones I sell through my website I have printed from a pro guy here locally, then I hand-retouch them so that they’re each slightly different from all the others, and hand sign and number them. They also are available in full size, except for the HUGE one, due to the limitations of the printing process–it’s still available pretty dang big, though. On the page about the prints, the print that is the original size is the one in italics for each print.

You are a fine artist, Opal. Congratulations on your placement !

Thanks!

That’s awesome.

You did “Leaving Chinatown” right?

I love that painting.

Yes, I did. Thanks!

Congrats! That painting rocks! I’d like to think that the generic wisdom contained in many of my posts helped inform your development as an artist. I’d LIKE to think that …

That COULD disqualify your opinion, if the painting weren’t more like what LeRoy Nieman WISHED he could paint, rather than the crap he DOES paint.

Opal, that is a LOVELY painting. The composition is very good. The inclusions are disorienting (good), but not distracting (bad). A solidly good painting that leaves room for contemplation.

You mean ths one? It’s fucking amazing. I love that painting. So does everyone else because if you look at the “recently sold prints” page it’s all over the place! LOL!

Hopefully when I’ve been painting more than 3 years I can get to that kind of level of commercial appeal! LOL!

(Actually style-wise that burro reminds me of messing around with paint when I’m cleaning up. I always wish there was some way to capture the neat textures and colors that I end up with, but instead they get wiped onto paper towels and land in the trash. Alas.

Oh, incidentally, anyone in the Cleveland area, I have donated some auction/raffle pieces for this fundraiser in a couple of weeks: linkie linkie

Yep, that’s the one.

I don’t know why LeRoy comes in for so much grief. I could, with some practice, paint something very similar to the donkey (burro) painting, but I couldn’t begin to figure out how to paint something like this or this or this or this. The way Neiman applies color – both in techique and selection – is something that I couldn’t begin to replicate. Look at the people in the first painting…see the way that numerous colors intermingle in a seemingly ragged and haphazard way in even the smallest of them. Note the colors and gradations of color that he uses. The way that he smears and intermingles color to bring about a coherent and vibrant image.

I’ve always felt that Neiman doesn’t get anywhere near the critical acclaim that he should, probably because of his popularity (a surefire way to engender accusations of having sold out) and his illustrations in Playboy. Still, I personally like his stuff very much and think he’s highly underrated as an artist.

Me, I want to know how this lady does her stuff. What program does she use??? It’s amazingly beautiful. I could stare at it for hours.
