Already being immensely proud of myself for collecting seasons 1 through 5 of Star Trek: The Next Generation on DVD, (and watching them constantly (and waiting anxiously for seasons 6 and 7 to be released)) I have recently learned that Paramount is indeed releasing DS9 in season box sets, in the same manner that TNG was released, starting in 2003.
I am of the opinion that DS9 was the strongest of the various series (though I have not seen many episodes of Enterprise yet.)
DS9 was a bit soap-opera-ish in the beginning, but in the latter season had some truly excellent story arcs, real live developing characters, Worf, and the badassmofo of Starfleet, the Defiant.
Oh, sure. Babylon 5 has a space station set in outer space and suddenly Star Trek has a show set in space. Babylon 5 adds a spiffy new space ship for the crew to fly around in and then suddenly DS9 adds a spiffy space ship for the crew to fly around. The commander of Babylon 5 grows facial hair and then suddenly the commander of DS9 does the same thing. And the final straw comes with they announce a B5 season DVD set and now they suddenly decided to do a DS9 DVD season set. Sheesh, will the imitation never end?

PS: This was a somewhat tongue in cheek post. Please don’t take it seriously.
I love B5, but DS9 was no ripoff of it. Plus, as mentioned in the thread about this idea-- B5 was a ripoff of many other shows and novels. B5 was a great 4 season show (I know they did a fifth season, but it was terrible- just like almost all of the B5 movies and the two horrid attempts at follow up series).
B5 did start out strong though, unlike DS9 which had the typical slow Trek start (c.f. Enterprise though, which had a good start and a horrible second season).
The bummer is that the we will have to suffer through season 1 first. Oh well.
Mmmm Alliance vs. Dominion fleet battles on DVD. . . .
