Our nation’s relationship to Israel has long been an issue. As noted abpve, some American voters vey publicly said that due to Biden’s support of Israel, they would vote Trump. At the time, I and others posted on the Dope that these people were unbelievably stupid. Would Harris be too pro-Israel? A case could be made. Would Trump’s position be somewhere between letting Netanyahu do whatever he wants no matter how bloody- and the US government openly and nakedly assisting genocide? Definitely.
Who votes for Trump? His base is of course a large number of bigots. Are these people anti arab and anti Muslim? Along with all their other prejudices, yes they are. Do conservative Christians vote for Trump? You bet they do. Conservative Christians have supported a modern state of Israel for a long time. As has already been said, the Jews need to gather together in Israel, rebuild the Temple, and then Jesus Christ will return and the End Of Days will start. So, they want- Israel to expand its borders, ejecting any Muslims from Israel, and destroying the Dome Of The Rock- because that exact spot will be needed for the new Temple.

Just Trump peoposing this is a major blow to the US’s international standing and our negotiating position in global politics.
Trump has just proposed forcibly expelling a whole population from their own autononomous political entity. This would require convincing some other country to change their mind to take some or all of the Palestinians, who are a separate ethnic group. That one statement undercuts US policy against Russian expansion, and China’s aspirations in the Pacific.
This is “Trail of Tears” level stuff.
All so Trump can graft a huge cut of the new real estate.
I think it is a negotiating tactic. I hope anyway. Trump has already shown he starts negotiations by moving the bar.
It’s a ludicrous proposal, that the NY Times is covering with multiple articles above the cyber-fold on their website, while ignoring the CIA buyouts, the damage to the CDC, and all kind of other things that are actually happening, rather than the insane ramblings of a lunatic that will lead to absolutely nothing.
I literally (really literally) have commented to my family and friends in the past that those complaining about Biden and Gaza don’t realize that Trump wants to turn Gaza into a Trump resort.

Again, I do not think the US will take control of Gaza. I do not think resorts will be built there.
I find it highly probable that the current US government and our armed forces will sit by and do nothing if the Israeli government does round up all the Palestinians and just dumps them somwhere else. I find only a tiny bit less probable that they will sit by and do nothing if the Israeli government just kills every Palestinian- man, woman and child- every last one.
Sure, fine, but the NY Times headlines are all about Trump’s proposal, which is totally separate from the US turning a blind eye to any potential Israel actions.

I think Israel would much more likely push the people out of Gaza and make them someone else’s problem.
I think this could do real damage in Gaza and Israel though. The peace process was fragile to begin with. Is Hamas going to want to give back the remaining hostages? Would they rather fight and die than accept even the thought of giving up their homeland? If Hamas chooses to lash out, it’s not going to be at the US, it’s going to be at Israel. Such a great ally, that Trump. Real “out of the box” thinker.
No, I don’t think they will buidl camps of any kind. The people to be killed all live in Gaza. There is no need to round them up. You would just need a enough people in power suppporting having them all killed, and enough people with guna to go in and kill them.
I do not think even a majority of Israelis would support it. I think Netanyahi would. I think enough other people would support it. What would the Israeli voters who were against it do? I don’t know. How long would it take the Israelis who were against it to effectively take action. I don’t know. Unless all the people against can take effective action quickly enough, all the Palestinians still die.
Except that we can’t do anything about that either, even if we’re paying attention.

I disagree, because it’s such a stupid, bonkers, ridiculous idea that the only people taking it seriously are the NYT and us. Even Bibi barely contained his eye-roll at the idea, and all the Arab nations dismissed it out of hand. I don’t think this stupid “plan” will make a lick of difference in anything in the real world, other than distracting people from real issues.

Something just occured to me-
Nobody will know until it is too late. If the Prime Minister, certain other elected officials and certain military leaders agree to just kill all the Palestinians- there will not be poll on whether it should be done. Like any military operation, it will be on a need to know basis.
People will wake up one morning to find Netanyahu giving a press conference. He will explain that there are currently no residents in Gaza. The Israeli government will fund repair, construction etc in the area. After that, Israelis will be able to move in.
Will trump ever build a Gaza sized resort there? Almost certainly not.
But this does show Trump’s mindset and thinking which indicates how he will approach this issue.
And, how many times do republicans have to do the unthinkable before you actually worry they might be serious?
This is my point – they are doing all kinds of unthinkable and illegal things right now, from trans rights, to the environment, to killing USAID, to buying out the CIA. None of that is getting headlines in, for example, the NY Times because they are distracted by this idiocy.
