I’ll admit that back in my days as a Burger King assistant manager I followed a couple home after my shift. Now, they weren’t just a random target or one-time offenders. These were people who, every time they came in they always complained rudely and loudly about something very trivial and stupid, no matter how hard we tried to please them. I was fed up with them and I wanted to get back at them, and since they had come in just before I was getting ready to leave I decided to find out where they lived. While I did follow them home I never did anything to them or their home later on, having had second thoughts about it, knowing I would probably regret it later.
I can’t believe I ever thought about doing this, but at the time, after putting up with shit from at least a dozen rude customers each day, all of them eroding away my patience and tolerance for them, I was ready to snap. I’m glad I quit that job when I did as it was clearly burning me out.
The waiter was a 20-year old, not a 17 year old kid. Here’s an excerpt:
Quote from the news story:
It didn’t look to me like anyone made the manager cook a side dish that wasn’t available. When I read this, I imagined the manager offering to cook those veggies. I’ve been to Sizzler’s many times and cooked vegetables are a normal side dish which can easily be substituted for potatoes without causing a hardship for the restaurant workers.
If the Kellers were indeed “grifters” and out to scam anyone, why would they pay the bill and leave? Why wouldn’t they have kicked up a big fuss and insisted on not having to pay the bill?
Off on a side but ralated rant. I hate & depise Sizzler, and will never eat there again. “Why?” you ask (or likely you don’t, but…)
Well, here in CA, Sizzle went bankrupt. That can be legit, and you can still treat your employees well. Sizzler did not do so. 1st- they did not bother to tell the employees, until they showed up for work the next Monday. Bastards. Next, Sizzler hired basicly only Management as “FT” employees- most cooks & waitstaff were kept working right below the FT hours, so that Sizzler didn’t have to pay FT benefits. Rat bastards. But then the kicker- Sizzler made a big deal that they were giving employees severance pay… but only FT employeees. In other words, the dudes who really needed the pay got fucked. Rat Felching Fucking Bastards.
(prior Double Post sent in error. I’m not snapping at you. I’m not cooking you vegetables either. If it really bothers you, you know where the door is.)
He was 20, not 17. How mature of a 20 is debateable…but he’s 20.
“Grifting”, at least in how I used the term, was to obtain additional goods/services, that the person had no right to, without additional charge. It extends equally to the Asshat who says “I hope you don’t expect a tip for that slow service” the one that says “I’m not eating that included salad. Idon’t think its fresh. And I’m not paying for it either. And I better be getting a % off my bill because of it. Did you Dare say No to me? I don’t like your attitude. Get me the manager, Lil Missy, and Be Quick about it!!!”
The ‘story’ is that common courtesy Of The Customer is rapidly becoming a lost art in America and Asshat Customers aren’t shown the door more often. No, The Customer Isn’t Always Right. They may have money, but this isn’t Monty-Hall Let’s Make A Deal Time. What gives some people the right to expect that they should get more on their ‘dinner special’ or get it for a lower price than the person who ordered it before them or after them? Because they’re louder and more obnoxious?
The story should be “Obnoxious American Customers: Are we to blame for service industry shortages? Then the channel 4 camera crew goes behind the scenes at various restaurants, films the Asshats being asshats, and when they get their charge cards back, Arnold Diaz walks up and says " Hi, I’m Arnold Diaz…we’re doing a report on obnoxious consumers. Did you realize that you were obnoxious just then?” [camera pans to asshats face to pick up expressions/comments]
