Did anyone read the article? It sounds like the guy responsible was doing this to call attention to systematic racism, not because he himself is of racist intent.
He appears to have a history of pulling similar stunts targeting the Republican establishment.

Woman gets her oil changed at a local dealership, the window sticker has the n-word on it. That, in and of itself, is bad enough. IMO, the dealership’s reply was almost as bad. When they should’ve said “we’ve fired the person/people responsible” and left it at that, they provided an excuse…the employee didn’t know it would show up on the sticker.
And the uncensored version of the sticker is all over their google reviews (and presumably their social media pages as well).

I assume this is Georgia the country, not the US state? I couldn’t find where the article specified, but since it seems to be printed from a European perspective (referring to the bogus salaries offered in Euros) I suppose it is the country.
As for the market for this sort of thing, some people with money who want children will pay and ask no questions. The black market price is probably cheaper than the legitimate market price (that’s usually what makes black markets work).
How could it be, though? I would expect that most people in need of an ovum donor would want to choose a specific individual. And even in the event that they don’t, a woman only produces one ovum per month, and even under slave conditions, a month’s upkeep for a human is expensive. Or maybe you can increase that by a factor of a few using fertility drugs, but then you’ve got the cost of the drugs, too. Meanwhile, how much could it possibly cost to pay a free woman (who’s otherwise supporting herself in some other way) to come in to a clinic for a few hours to make a donation?
I believe these eggs are used for women who have mitochondrial diseases. You replace the egg’s DNA with the patient’s own DNA, and then fertilize the egg as normal for an IVF procedure.
I’m not sure if I’m being whooshed, but when you donate eggs (and I suppose when they are taken against your will), they take 10-20 at a time, not one.
They don’t wait for the woman to ovulate and then grab the egg from the uterus…
But looking it up, they do have to use medication to induce multiple eggs to develop at once. They’re then removed directly from the ovary.
