What We Know About Reports That Puerto Rican Family Was Detained After...
The rumor circulated at the same time as reports of ICE raids in Puerto Rican and Dominican communities in New Jersey.
Food poisoning?
Yeah, why do we deny bacteria their right to become pandemics?
I’ll help them dig the holes. Of course, once they’re inside you can’t have these unsightly dirt mounds everywhere, and there’s a convenient place to put it right here…
Not really new - I’ve been hearing about these sorts of things for about 20 years now.
No, I was saying that the side of Puget Sound was the vast majority of the state. I was referring to by population, because that should be the only metric that matters.
Have I lost track of the narrative here? Isn’t the abuela from Puerto Rico and thus a native born citizen?
Shane Jett (no relation to Joan, I hope) is the one you want to be mad at.
To be fair, he does seem rather black-hearted.

The issue has been raised, though, that like most native citizens, Puerto Ricans (and for that matter old-family Chicanos and even Native Americans) don’t go around prepared to produce “your papers, please!” on demand. And there have been incidents of agencies or just random asshats harassing citizens for just looking or sounding “wrong.”
Meanwhile FWIW there was a supposed situation with Puerto Rican citizens where the narrative is now being questioned but which sounded plausible enough for a number of media outlets:

Yes, she’s a native-born US citizen from Puerto Rico. And as far as I know she’s not a grandmother despite her advanced age so I’m not sure abuela is the correct term for her.

During the Civil War era, and I think before also, weren’t there cases of Black people being assumed to be escaped slaves unless they could produce papers proving that they had been freed?

Huh, I thought the dangers inherent in overuse of antibiotics in food production were well known? I guess not?
WHO is recommending that farmers and the food industry stop using antibiotics routinely to promote growth and prevent disease in healthy animals.

No, you’re right. What’s also true is that, I’m pretty certain, RFK defines “overuse” as any use.

Cook County State's Attorney Eileen O'Neill Burke said Antonio Reyes didn't know any of the victims, including a 31-year-old man who was gunned down while taking his three young children to buy a puppy.
He did all these killings when he was 16 or 17 years old.
Well, shit. I’m sure he’ll be very happy here.

The region I worked in previously at my agency was only King County, and that’s it. Yet it was so much bigger in terms of population than any other region that it’s hard to believe. My new region is 4 counties (including Pierce and Kitsap) and it’s still not even close.
The mayor of Seattle (who is a right bastard for the way he’s been stonewalling light rail expansion, but that’s another topic) has been hiding the fact that in 1996 he was arrested at a casino in Iowa for brandishing a handgun during an argument over a parking space.
Though I don’t think this raises to the level of “evil”.
Ok, now can I call him evil?

“We know that our current president surrounds himself by some of the smartest innovators around,” Harrell said. “When we drop names like [Marc] Andreessen or Peter Thiel or David Sacks or Elon Musk—these are smart innovators.”
Definitely dumb or maybe a bit crazy. Was he just trying to suck up to right-leaning business folks? Either way, really bad move in that town.
