The issue has been raised, though, that like most native citizens, Puerto Ricans (and for that matter old-family Chicanos and even Native Americans) don’t go around prepared to produce “your papers, please!” on demand. And there have been incidents of agencies or just random asshats harassing citizens for just looking or sounding “wrong.”
Meanwhile FWIW there was a supposed situation with Puerto Rican citizens where the narrative is now being questioned but which sounded plausible enough for a number of media outlets:

The region I worked in previously at my agency was only King County, and that’s it. Yet it was so much bigger in terms of population than any other region that it’s hard to believe. My new region is 4 counties (including Pierce and Kitsap) and it’s still not even close.
