Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

A congenital defect if ever there was one. And very, very common.

True, incorrect.

“Congenital” means “born with it”. It doesn’t identify the actual cause, which could be environmental (perhaps while pregnant something happened to mom and by extension the baby), or yes, perhaps something genetic but that could have come from mom’s side of the family, not dad’s, and sometimes we just don’t know.

None of the news articles have specified what, exactly, this defect/condition is. From my viewpoint, it’s no one’s business but the family’s.

To dissect the word, “genital” in this context means “being created/born”. Like the words “generate”, or “Genesis”. It’s related to the act of creation. “Con” is a prefix meaning “with”, so it’s saying it is something that was present at birth. But that’s all it means.

Not only is a congenital defect not necessarily inherited, I think we can assume that Bronny James had TWO parents.

That is, however, a change from the usual “blame the mother” thing.

Some blamed Brandon Goodwin missing the 2021 playoffs on getting vaccinated, including Goodwin himself – at first. Now it looks much more likely that he had a misdiagnosed case of COVID.

If you check the history of that article, you’ll see that I stepped in to correct vaccine misinformation.

Yeah - that’s not going to help. “If he had the vaccine, why did he get COVID?”

It’s been known since the beginning that the vaccine doesn’t give 100% protection but helps keep you alive if you get it.

But some people won’t hear that truth either.

Yeah, I’ve had all the vaccines/boosters. I got COVID twice after the shots. But it was not bad at all. Sort of a summer cold that went away in a few days.

Parents?

Dang, the only reason I ever heard of LeBron James was because everybody made such a big deal about how he went to the NBA right out of high school. So, I always think of him (WHEN I think of him) as “that high school NBA star.” He’s got a kid old enough to be in college? I figured bronny James was his little brother or something.

Time flies.

While we’re at it, even if the heart condition was genetic, that would at most mean that LeBron was a carrier (assuming the simplest case, of a genetic disease being cause by a recessive gene). And there are all sorts of other, more complicated, cases by which a child could have a genetic disease without one or both parents having it.

Not necessarily.

My family has not one but two bad cardiac genes, one from each side of the family. They’re both dominant genes, although one of them has variable penetrance which is why my father died at 87 instead of 32 like his brother. Or at 24 and 30 like two of dad’s grandsons. Genetics can get complicated.

My dad had a bad gene that, for whatever reason(s) did not affect him as badly as other members of his family.

When U.S. champion swimmer Jamie Cail was found dead earlier this year, antivaxers were quick to blame her death on Covid-19 vaccination.

A newly released autopsy report lists the cause of death as fentanyl intoxication and aspiration of gastric contents.

Nevermind, antivax vultures have moved on to newer cases.

‘They put FENTUNAIL IN THE JAB!!!1111!!!’

Wait’ll they find out that work is proceeding on a fentanyl vaccine.

Not too often that a graduate student deals with his faculty adviser this way:

My county’s library board has eliminated the American Library Association’s Freedom to Read policy statement from their bylaws.

The statement by the ALA included this “offensive” language: “It is in the public interest for publishers and librarians to make available the widest diversity of views and expressions, including those that are unorthodox, unpopular, or considered dangerous by the majority.”

Can’t have that.

Woke alert!

Israeli police officers beat a Palestinian man and allegedly branded him with the Star of David. The officer in question is suspended for the time being, but all 16 of the officers there had their body cams off (16 for one guy?) so they’re all guilty IMHO.

Or does this belong in the Evil Religious thread?

“Israeli” is not actually synonymous with “religious”. Arguably, it’s more “police brutality” and “racism”. Far as I can see, though, it fits here just fine because 16:1 is pretty evil.
