Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

It just weakens it to a great degree.

He could also prohibit any programs to commemorate Juneteenth, what it stands for and what it represents. That would effectively neuter the holiday without eliminating it.

Though perhaps I shouldn’t give them any ideas.

So, what other webpages on the DoD site have been delisted as DEI?

It existed before the Orange Menace took office, it will exist after the worms have had their chance at him.

Trump simply declaring that they’re no longer holidays, or even randomly dropping “we’re looking at getting rid of these woke ‘holidays’” into an unrelated speech, would be all anyone would talk about for days. Whether he wants chaos for chaos’ sake or to act as a distraction, I don’t know, but saying he’s going to do something that he can’t or won’t do and probably never had any actual plans for, is right in his wheel house. It seems to be one of the only wheels in there.

I assume you’re familiar with the “dragons having sex with cars” genre?

I was not familiar with the man, so I looked him up. Wikipedia has a pretty informative article.

He was wounded multiple times in the Vietnam War (including a rocket explosion that flung him in the air and basically destroyed the back of his leg), but even while wounded he rallied troops to protect a fire support base, risking his life in the process. He was awarded the Medal of Honor by Richard Nixon (not a Democrat as I suspected). Even after getting the medal he wanted to go back to the war to continue fighting. He stayed in the military and continued to be promoted, eventually retiring as a Major General. After retirement he became a Baptist minister and served US troops in Germany as a civilian. He died of cancer at age 61.

I see nothing in his history of anything controversial, he was essentially everything that right wing propaganda would say an American should be. I don’t even think being Black would be enough for any but the most rabid alt-right folks to dislike him; I’m sure even racists on the right might consider him “one of the good ones”. My speculation is that his biographical page was being referenced or linked to as part of some kind of diversity training or web site (as an example of how someone of color can achieve greatness in the military), and that his web page got caught by whatever bots they have scrubbing DEI stuff from government sites.

Not to use that as an excuse, it just goes to show how stupid these efforts are.

The day I found this existed was the day I truly understood just how weird humanity was.

Except white. None of ‘those people’ ever accomplished anything on their own.

I couldn’t readily find a list of all Medal of Honor recipients on the Defense Department website. Charles C. Rogers still has a profile up on the site.

Rogers also is cited on the Army’s list of Medal of Honor winners.

Whether the DEI-chasers just haven’t gotten around to removing these profiles is another matter.

Lessening a footprint can sometimes achieve more in the long run then a total sudden erasure of said footprint, and brings less resistance.

If you read my entire post (or even the next couple of sentences) I addressed that.

According to the Wikipedia article on Charles C. Rogers, “By March 17, the (DoD) page was restored, with the “deimedal” URL redirecting back to the original link.”

Hope that pressure is kept on for an explanation of why he was DEIactivated in the first place.

Better keep an eye on Rogers’ grave in Arlington National Cemetery to make sure MAGAs don’t dig him up and remove his plaque.

They’re already doing their best to mess with Arlington, so a little grave desecration seems fine.

Amazon Echo users can no longer opt out of Echo recording everything they say so they can use it to train their plagiarism generator.

That sounds implausible. Not sending everything you say to the servers was never a privacy issue; it was a bandwidth issue. That’s a lot of data to be constantly sending.

And we’ve been over this before, but it’s only a “plagiarism generator” in the same sense that any human is.

They’re apparently collecting enough data that human employees are personally listening to over 1,000 recordings per shift.

Yes, after reading your post I’m going to start telling everyone that any person is potentially a plagiarism generator.

Humans generating plagiarism is also frowned upon.
