Did I ever tell you that I felt like you and I are family?
Yes, but… you know… pilots.
I have no idea if this will amount to anything beyond local news…
Nikita Casap, 17, is accused of killing his mother, Tatiana Casap, and stepfather, Donald Mayer, at their village of Waukesha home in February. Casap was arrested in Kansas days later with a gun, driving Mayer’s stolen SUV.
A search warrant, filed with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, outlines an FBI investigation that uncovered a conspiracy to kill Trump as part of an effort to start a “political revolution.”
The warrant also said Casap paid for, at least in part, “a drone and explosives to be used as a weapon of mass destruction to commit an attack.” The killings of his mother and stepfather, according to the warrant, “appeared to be an effort to obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary” to carry out the plan.
There’s also a ‘satanic cult’ and a manifesto involved:
If the term “weapon of mass destruction” is to have any meaning at all, it certainly should not be applied to a quadcopter drone and a couple lbs of explosive. Weapon of irritant-level destruction more like.
Ref the pic in the second cite, its pretty obvious which one is the real Evil MF who’s often in the news.
WRT WMD, I agree, unless there’s more to it. If we find out in the coming days that it was, say, a ‘dirty bomb’, calling it a WMD might make more sense. But for now, I just assumed it was either meant, by the reporter or their source, to sensationalize the story or maybe under some specific law it’s considered a WMD.
Regardless, it does seem the FBI classifies any explosive device as a WMD.

Next up in our Brave New Country: Felony jaywalking.
Do you even realise how much property damage is inflicted upon drivers’ vehicles when a jaywalker gets himself hit?
Because of course there is.
Innocent drivers. Can’t forget the innocent to further fan the outrage at such clearly felonious shenanigans as daring to cross the street on foot. With the pedestrian sentencing guidelines calling for doubled penalties for hitting a pickup truck, and doubled again if it’s a dualie or a diesel.
At least quadruple if it’s a coal roller, because the modifications the innocent owner had to make in order to produce that sweet sweet smoke don’t come cheap.
Although, in 2025, a pedestrian is as likely to be hit while in a marked crosswalk during the lighted “walk” sequence while wearing blaze orange by a driver whipping a turn as they are in ninja Vantablack at midnight while jaywalking.
(And if they survive they’ll be sued by Anish Kapoor. Because of the Vantablack)
I’m willing to act as the go-between liaison for you two. All I ask is 15% after adjudication.
ETA: my fiancée wanted me to hold out for 20%, but I’m just too fucking nice to do that.
You may be nice…but she’s still going to want her full share of the take, y’know.

it certainly should not be applied to a quadcopter drone and a couple lbs of explosive
For a person such as was described, you are probably right. But, “a couple lbs” of something like composition four might be a different story.
A “weapon of mass destruction” in international parlance means a nuclear bomb. Later things like chemical or radiological weapons were added. Those are the things we have treaties to try to manage on an international basis. Because they are that massively destructive at a stroke.
Some domestic law enforcement agency using the same words that describe a nuke to apply to something that can destroy a car or maaaaybe a single small house is aggressive double-think / double-speak in the service of tyranny. Even if that has been the FBI’s definition since the “war on terror” got underway.

In last sentence, strike “Even if… ” and substitute “As evidenced by how…”

A megachurch pastor speaking at a convention in Maryland last year ordered the ushers to close the doors and lock the audience in until they “donated” $40,000 to his church.
I saw a segment on the news. The incident was from a Mega Conference, not a standard church service. It was being held in a convention center. He says that right outside the doors were vendors and other events and random people walking around, with a lot of noise.
I’ve been to events in hotel convention centers and seen church services held there. I’ve been in my own events and had to close the doors to limit the outside noise so people could hear and concentrate on our event.
He didn’t order the doors locked or prevent anyone from leaving. He just wanted to buffer the outside noise and limit someone wandering in while the collection was occurring.
The video is unclear, as he did not offer a justification from the pulpit while making his instruction, but he does not instruct locking the doors, just closing them.
While I am an Atheist, and I despise megachurch evangelicals begging for money especially, this seems to be a case where the actual incident has been distorted by misrepresentations and projections.

Thank you. That last sentence stunk & I knew it, but I was at a loss for how to make it right.
What I really meant was as bad as this is, it isn’t something new and trumply; it’s been this way awhile (can’t be arsed for a cite) and we only have conventional, not MAGA politics to blame for this slide towards authoritarianism.

He didn’t order the doors locked or prevent anyone from leaving. He just wanted to buffer the outside noise and limit someone wandering in while the collection was occurring.
As opposed to during the churchy activities, which were merely a vehicle for the collection, the way a TV show is a vehicle for feeding you ads. That is the thing that bothers people: religion should be for the benefit of the faithful, not for the financial gain of the pulpit huckster.

I still consider it a WMD.
