Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

I was wondering how long it would take someone to pick that up. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Can we send all of our Alberta whack-o folks to Florida?

And thereby make both places more sane.

Based on what Alberta separatists are saying these days, the mental climate in Florida would not be improved by their settling in the state.

In the “well, well, well, if it isn’t the consequences of my words and actions” file, Kanye West has been banned from entering the UK.

Such a silly fuss. All Kanye West had to do was promise not to sing “Heil Hitler” at the festival, though he might’ve viewed that as artistic interference.

As has been said so many times down the centuries by pundits far more learned and far more renowned than mere me. …

Live by the stupid; die by the stupid.

Tennessee school board member tells underage high schooler “God, you’re hot” on a live mic during a board meeting.

He claims he was complimenting her on her demeanor and questions during the board meeting, and he might have been.

But I have to agree with this comment from the board chairman:

Mr. Ervin knows his own intentions, but the rest of us have to judge his words and his actions.

He needs to resign.

He also needs to have his hard drive checked.

Obviously he was making a point that she seemed warm and sweaty, and that the board needed to approve an air conditioning upgrade for their building.

“And maybe she wears Daisy Dukes more of-ten!”

Agreed. Even if you weren’t being a pervert hitting on a kid, your choice of words is stupid enough to warrant action. Especially because that kind of language is absolutely going to be misinterpreted by a child who now thinks an authority figure is lusting after her.

And that’s the most charitable interpretation, taking his explanation at face value and assuming he was being sincere. It’s still reprehensible.

If you’re trying to say, “You’re really smart,” then say that you fucking idiot.

Sam Altman is asking the Illinois legislature to grant him and his company immunity in the event that ChatGPT launches a nuke.

First they build massive, noisy buildings/complexes that destroy any qualify of life for those around them, suck up local ground water to the point wells go dry, demand massive amounts of power that the local population is then required to pay for because WTF billionaires can’t be expected to foot their own power bills…

… and now they want legal immunity from harm.

When are people going to Wake The Fuck Up?

99% percent of us are never going to gain even a penny’s worth of value from these AI things but we will be expected to pay the power and water bills for them like good little techno-serfs.

I don’t like this timeline.

Update on this story: turns out not evil, just confusing. The dead canines turned out to be foxes that were raised on a farm and slaughtered for use as bait in commercial fishing (which I didn’t know was a thing) and were lost overboard when the fishing boat had “an incident” on the water. No charges are being filed.

Still definitely weird… Why foxes? I imagine most any sort of animal could be used as bait in that way, but herbivores are much cheaper to raise than carnivores.

I guess that maybe the foxes were originally raised for some more distinctively vulpine purpose, like for fox-hunts, and then the owner discovered that there wasn’t much market for that and cut their losses by selling them to anyone who would take them? Or maybe they were being raised for fur (and how much market is there for fox fur?), and the skinned carcasses were a waste product (which would also explain why they were hard to identify)?

That’s a kind of a nod to sustainability I guess.

Only insofar as sustainability intersects with profit (which it actually does quite often).

I think the future of the world might hinge on showing people how sustainability leads to profit.
