A parent who lost her child is harassed by antivaxers.
It’s far from the first time.

I agree that’s a level of negligence that’s way out there.
Lady Justice Thirlwall
That totally sounds like a superhero name.
And Lucy Letby totally sounds like a villain’s name
Texas police arrested a man for (accurately) posting on Facebook that the town water supply was tainted, then arrested another man who protested the arrest.
The state has now ordered the department to disband after determining that their existence provides no benefit to the community.
I am amazed the Texas state authorities would close any police department. Totally out of character for Fascists.
After reading the entire article, this police department was waaaaaay out of compliance and (in this case) generating slam-dunk lawsuits against the city in question for their actions. IE, Texas state authorities under-bussed the police department and former chief.
So, no shocking moment of virtue, just a calculating cutting of losses. I’m not sure if it makes it feel better or worse TBH.
It means the administrative oversight did what it would be expected to do: “worse than useless and only creates more trouble? shut it down.” Value neutral.
That sounds like what happened repeatedly in the U.S., when hospital officials faced evidence that patients were being harmed and killed by caregivers like Charles Cullen and Genene Jones (nurses) and Michael Swango (doctor). The reflex action was to avoid scandal and potential lawsuits, while dodging criminal investigation and allowing serial killers to keep on killing.
Meanwhile, it looks like some of Lucy Letby’s hired experts now have doubts about her defense team’s tactics.

Is it possible that he just doesn’t know what the expression “pound for pound” means?
Is he saying Americans are fatter than Al-Qaeda? Because duh.
Maybe he means that we’ve killed more innocent people. How many native Americans did there used to be? Just to pick one group of people out of the many groups of innocent people that we’ve killed.
I don’t know, I didn’t click the link.
Not in published order,
Piker’s comments to Axios came in response to a question about his previous statement that “America is the top dog in terrorism.”
“Pound for pound as far as the number of deaths, yes,” Piker said in an exclusive interview for a new episode of “The Axios Show.” Piker added: “We have caused tremendous terror all around the world.”
“If you’re killing 140 schoolgirls, that is an act of terror,” he said.
Hard to say that he’s wrong about that, then.
(No, GWB, they don’t hate us for our freedom.)
I don’t know what you mean by “they”, but Bin Laden certainly did. His list of complaints were basically:
The US put infidel troops on the Arabian Peninsula’s holy soil when defending Qatar against Saddam
The US doesn’t stone gays
Bill Clinton got a blowjob
I know it’s trendy to quote his “Letter to America” on TikTok, but you really don’t have to defend people like him.
Or like Piker.
So you don’t know what “pound for pound” means either?
I recall GWB speaking of terrorists in general and claiming that they hated us for our freedom. Clearly bullshit.
I’m going to be the lone voice crying out in the wilderness here, but I don’t care: countries can’t be terrorists. Terrorism doesn’t mean “bad person”; it has a has a very specific meaning, that of non-state actors targeting civilians. America’s actions, not matter how awful, are not terrorism. Israel’s actions, no matter how terrible, are not terrorism. Iran’s actions, no matter how terrible, are not terrorism. Nazi Germany’s actions, despite being more terrible than those of any terrorists… weren’t terrorism (at least, not after 1933). OK? If you want to describe atrocities committed by the country of your choice, choose a better word.
You are factually incorrect.
Establishment terrorism, often called state or state-sponsored terrorism, is employed by governments—or more often by factions within governments—against that government’s citizens, against factions within the government, or against foreign governments or groups.
Note that there is no internationally-recognized definition of “terrorism”, and some authorities agree with your viewpoint, but others don’t. Declaring that it has a clear and accepted definition that fits your viewpoint is wrong.
Pound for pound, Piker’s being associated with El-Sayed’s Senate campaign is almost as bad news as an endorsement from Iran’s Mojtaba Khamenei would be.
