Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

If this kid lacks common sense to the point that he’s going 112 mph in a 35 mph zone then I have no doubt whatsoever that the revocation of a license would have zero effect on his decision making capabilities. IOW even if it was revoked it wouldn’t have stopped them. This is pure unvarnished entitlement. He’s never had to account for anything he’s ever did, and his parents are probably the same way.

The main streets in my small town have a speed limit of 40-45. That’s a main drag with two lanes going in each direction, and a long turning lane that goes for miles. Because there’s literally dozens of businesses in the district on both sides going that far. To imagine somebody going over a hundred miles an hour on a similar street terrifies me.

Or he “borrowed” the car of someone in the same household or he just flat-out stole it from a stranger.

But… no, you do NOT need a license to buy a car, own a car, pay for insurance on a car. You can do all of the above without a license, you just can’t legally drive that car.

Nope. No you don’t. You do need a valid ID to do those things but you do not need a driver’s license to register and insure a vehicle.

Not commenting on social power, but on the ease and speed of DL suspension. Don’t disagree with your observation, because I have an example of my own, but I would like to know if you have one that backs your assertion.

Dan

Not sure where to post this, but I would consider racists evil, so here will do.

I live in the land of ongoing racism. The skinheads and Aryan Nations assholes aren’t as visible, but the hatred is still here. The UT women’s basketball team that was in town for the tourney had to change hotels due to racial harassment. Keep it classy Idaho

In the state of Washington, where the event under question occurred, you do need a license to register a vehicle. Cite from the DMV website.

You’ll need to show your unexpired Washington (WA) driver license to your dealership so they can register the vehicle in your name, unless you’re exempt from getting a driver license under RCW 46.20.025.

Nitpick: That statement seems to be based on the assumption that the person who’s acquiring title to the vehicle is expecting to drive it themselves, in which case, yes they do need a license, obvs.

But just to buy, insure or register a vehicle that you’re not planning to drive yourself, I’m not convinced that Washington or any other state absolutely requires a driver’s license. Some form of government-issued photo ID, yes.

I assume he was traveling south. In the Fairwood area, there is a cluster of businesses, but most of that is around Petrovitsky, north of where the collision occurred. The stretch between Petrovitsky and 192nd is mostly a residential-facing arterial. More disturbing, south of there, the road takes a curving jog that, I think, is marked at like 30: if he had not hit vehicles in the intersection, at the speed he was going, he would have almost certainly ended up in someone’s upstairs bedroom.

Or better yet, wrapped around a large tree in their front yard, injuring/killing no one but himself. His only lasting mark on society being some slow-healing scars on that tree.

Assholes helping assholes be assholes. I should have stopped when I read the name “Peter Thiel.”

I had a string of accidents when I was a teenager and young adult, and the only legal consequences were traffic citations, so not necessarily.

And that just makes it worse. I was picturing a business area but if this was a residential area that just makes it a hundred times worse.

As an aside, isn’t this almost exactly how Tiger Woods had his infamous accident a few years ago? Going too fast on a long curve and he lost control?

Gun shop owner in Michigan is encouraging open carry folks to show up at a gun violence prevention town hall.

Come as you are

The way to stem gun violence is moar guns!

That seems to be their solution to pretty much everything.

Oh except debt! Their solution to that of course is tax cuts.

Not fair! Sometimes the solution is not tax cuts . . . it’s cutting taxes.

This was an SNL Weekend Update sketch in the ‘80s.

Perhaps more shithead than evil:

In a CNN article about how Americans are having trouble saving for retirement, BlackRock CEO Larry Fink lays the blame on “baby boomers”.

Fink’s net worth is $1.2 billion, but it’s them boomers hogging Social Security who are a “detriment”.

Do well by doing good, sez Larry.

Why do I get the distinct impression of “why don’t you and him fight so I can take all this money and run away?”

Social Security is mentioned several times in the article, but not by Fink. Although he says that retirement should be delayed past 65, he doesn’t say that Social Security should be delayed more than it already is (66 or 67 now, isn’t it to claim “full” retirement payments, and more if you delay until 70?).

I find it much more worrisome that politicians are still refusing to face the SS shortfall by taking relatively small steps, such as raising the maximum income before SS withholding stops.

We could solve a lot of the social security funding problem by simply never capping SS withholding - keeping withholding all the way up.

And when the rich whine why should they pay for a benefit they don’t really need… it’s so your 85 year old neighbor doesn’t take to holding you up and riffling through your wallet and pocket change in order to pay his bills. Time was the aristocracy understood the benefits of keeping the peasants happy instead of trying to squeeze blood out of turnips.
