Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

I hope I wasn’t the only one forced to read The Man Without a Country (1863) in seventh grade. Actually, it was kind of interesting, but at the time I didn’t realize it was written during the US Civil War as a warning about betraying the United States. The main character was charged with treason as an accomplice to - Aaron Burr! Maybe that story should be required reading to some of the insurrectionists.

Guam is American territory. Right in the name, BIOT is British territory.

Which is why they’d be subject to American law, unlike BIOT, which was Riemann’s point.

That’s my point. BIOT is part of the United Kingdom.

I’m not disputing that. I’m disputing whether it makes someone a stupid MFer if they don’t know that. I’ve only every heard it called Diego Garcia by the U.S. military, and there’s basically nothing there other than the naval / air force base, right? I mean, I’m British, I knew there was an important U.S. military base on Diego Garcia, but I had no idea it was a British Colony. I’ve never heard of “BIOT”, and I’m obviously not alone in that. I could forgive a young American sailor or military contractor who is transferred there (from Guam, for example) for not realizing the sordid colonial history and that they are under British jurisdiction if they commit a crime on Diego Garcia. It’s not like they are living in the middle of Germany or the English countryside.

Just going to stick this here. Twitter is having a bit of a TERF war, and J.K.Rowling is discovering that there are some very nasty people on her side of the divide:

The Blaze:

Gad Saad:

FiLiA, a certain “feminist” organization JK Rowling supports:

Matt Walsh:

J.K. Rowling:

Jason Whitlock:

J.K.Rowling again:

I’m not defending whatever actual abuse she may have received (from anyone), but watching Walsh and Rowling squabble is definitely a “leopard eating face” moment.

There appears to be no “Pretentious Fucking Douchebags” thread, so this’ll do.

“With all due respect” - one of the more annoying absolute bullshit euphemisms.

There’s other assholish stuff in the article too.

Aaaaw poor Roj - oppressed by truth-denying bandmates.

Still rock’s worst SOB.

Worse than Ted Nugent?

Very good response. Roger’s an insufferable git much of the time, but he’s far from rock’s worst asshole.

Terrible Ted is louder at it than Roj, but Waters has a higher total output of assholisness. 50% of the Wall, 80% of The Final Cut and all of Radio KAOS and the Pros and Cons… and probably everything after is Waters being “true”. True SOB. I still think he hasn’t come to terms with his father dying. Way back in the 80s, if I were a journalist I would have asked “Do you think we should have fought WWII?” I think he’d have said no.

But is he bigger than Jesus?

Well sure, he’s even bigger than the Beatles!

“…and he went on to say that neither The Beatles nor Jesus ever had a hit record.”

He’s always been a megalomaniacal ass, but if he weren’t, we wouldn’t have The Wall or The Final Cut or… etc, etc, etc.

So I’m willing to overlook it.

What a wanker.

I think some of my favorite artists are megalomaniacs. They often go hand-in-hand.

You can love their work without having to deify the individual.

Indeed. Was it Alice Cooper who flicked open his sword-cane and threw it into the audience?

(Not that I think that Coop is an asshole. He’s straightened up a lot over the decades.)

I don’t know, but he did stab himself in the leg with Errol Flynn’s sword once.

He probably shouldn’t be given access to swords in general.

That’s how I’ve always felt about God.

Quoth the dark one:

Of course a bottle of whiskey was involved.
