That’s been all over the news here and I’ve driven past that DQ many times (I’m in Pittsburgh, only about 25 miles west of Delmont).
We take our dogs to an obedience training place in Delmont and visit Devout Brewing nearby. My friend owns a pizza business across 66 from the DQ.
I’m pitting the twits calling this law the “Purge” bill. Thanks for making my students ecstatic ( they’re a weird bunch) over the alleged freedom to commit crimes in Illinois without consequence.
The criminals will go free the same way richer criminals will go free.

Yeah, there’s the same sort of complaint about recently-passed bail reforms here in NY. Every time somebody who’s out commits another crime, the problem is claimed to be all that they couldn’t be held on bail. The people saying this never mention the fairly recent case on all the same news sites shortly before the reforms, in which somebody killed two people while he was out on bail. It was quite a high bail, too; but he knew people who were willing and able to come up with it.
All that the bail system does is keep in jail the ones who can’t pay. The ones who can pay get out. The solution isn’t to re-instate bail; it’s to tweak the standards for who gets kept in jail until trial, so that people who are a serious danger and the really obvious repeated scofflaws don’t get to buy their way free if they’ve just got the money.
Instead of money, anyone skipping bail should get a mandatory incarceration time in addition to any other penalties when they get caught. Even if they’re acquitted or plea out of jail.
If there is a case where that isn’t a deterrent, say they are already facing a potential life sentence or death penalty, bail is no option.
